There's this deeper thread running through these chapters that I can't stop thinking about—the relationship between food and security. Lin Yue buys meat buns and the children are almost afraid to eat them. Gou Dan says 'we spent a lot of money... how will we survive the winter?' This isn't just poverty; it's a psychological wound. Even when food is abundant, they can't shake the belief that scarcity is coming. The fish symbolize something powerful here. When Lin Yue catches fish—not just one but seven or eight in the trap, plus the ones they spear—it's not just about survival. It's about abundance. She even releases the small fish back into the water, saying 'Let them grow a bit more.' That's a mindset shift from scarcity to sustainability, from hoarding to trusting that there will be enough tomorrow. And the meat bun itself—Lin Yue deliberately making exaggerated eating sounds, pretending it's a 'delicacy' so the kids will eat—this is performance as care. She's not just feeding their bodies; she's trying to rewire their relationship with food and abundance. The wild boar trap that Gu Dafu's wife tries to steal is another symbol worth noting. It represents the means of survival, the tools that could change their fate. Lin Yue snatching it back isn't just about property—it's about protecting their future. The author keeps returning to these objects (food, traps, tools) and layering them with meaning until they become more than props—they become the story's emotional vocabulary.
Okay, I need to talk about the poisoning thing because it's not just a plot device and I think the author is using it for something much bigger. "On my wedding day, I was poisoned, passed out, and when I woke up, I was no longer foolish." This line keeps playing in my head. The poisoning didn't just change her mind — it changed her ENTIRE IDENTITY. The "foolish" Wen Ling died on her wedding day, and whatever woke up in her place is someone else entirely. This is basically a rebirth narrative disguised as a poisoning plot point. And think about the symbolism: poison is supposed to be destructive, right? It's meant to kill, to harm, to destroy. But in this story, the poison is what liberates her. It's the thing that breaks the cage the family built around her. The very weapon meant to silence her becomes the catalyst for her voice. There's also the father-daughter dynamic here that's absolutely horrifying when you think about it. Wen Tingyun despised his daughter for being foolish — saw her as a disgrace to his humble origins. He called her by her full name her entire childhood. And when she finally stops being foolish, his first reaction isn't pride or relief — it's suspicion and calculation. "You're not foolish anymore?" Not "I'm glad you're okay" but "hmm, you're useful now." The stepmother Madam Liu being the father's childhood sweetheart adds another layer. She was supposed to be the nurturing figure, the mother type, and instead she's the one who facilitated Wen Ling's suffering. The family structure itself is a symbol of broken trust and inverted care. And Gu Chenran — the prince who was bedridden, whose estate was full of yin energy and death — gets restored through his marriage to Wen Ling. Two broken people healing each other. The poisoning that was meant to destroy one becomes the bridge that connects them. This book is about transformation. About how the things meant to kill you can become the things that make you alive. And it's wrapped in a story about a wealthy family's hypocrisy. That's not just entertainment — that's commentary.
I have to say something about the dialogue in this book because it's genuinely good and I don't say that lightly. The way characters speak feels natural and distinct. Su Dabao is the standout — his dialogue is perfectly calibrated for a six-year-old. "Auntie, why don't we go back for lunch? I want to eat eggs." Simple, direct, completely childlike. And then later when he's trying to convince his aunt to let him come along: "Auntie, since we're already out, why don't we stop by and see my dad?" He's negotiating, and it's adorable. Grandma Ma's dialogue is also great. She's gossipy and blunt in a way that feels very authentic to a small village setting. "Bah! Lazy good-for-nothing. If she didn't have good parents, who'd bother with a discarded woman dumped by her man?" That's not just dialogue — that's worldbuilding through voice. You can hear the judgment in every word. The educated youths' dialogue is where things get interesting. Shen Jianyang is loud and expressive — "Brother Song, look! Isn't that Captain Su's daughter?" while the bespectacled one is more reserved and observant. The tall one in blue barely speaks at all, which actually makes him more intriguing. His silence speaks volumes. Liang Shufen's dialogue has this wonderful mix of warmth and worry. "Daughter, don't tell me you still have feelings for that brat?" The word "brat" is doing so much work there — it's maternal affection mixed with genuine concern and a hint of judgment about the guy who hurt her daughter. The narrative voice is also worth mentioning. It's close third person, mostly following Su Meier's perspective, and it has this dry humor that matches her modern sensibilities. When she thinks about how other people transmigrated with cheat abilities while she got nothing, the internal monologue is funny and relatable. Overall, the dialogue feels lived-in and authentic. No one sounds like a plot device — they sound like people.
it’s too early to really say anything about the characters, but so far the seem fundamentally intriguing, I can’t wait to see were this goes?
When I was 3 years old I could barely walk, but MC here could kill wyverns with his bare hands. Very exciting story so far! The writing also exudes confidence and I love it~I recommend this to fans of:overpowered MCreincarnationyounger MC
If you like overpowered main protagonist, you must try it. It has a revenge plot initially, so I know adrenaline-rushing scenes will come later.
Greetings dear readers! Shameless author here. This is my experimental dive into the comedy genre, and let me tell you, it's absolute chaos. You ever wonder what happens when an average guy gets mistaken for the most powerful evil overlord in history? No grand powers. No dark armies. Just one very confused blacksmith and a world that refuses to believe he’s not their legendary villain. This novel is a glorious disaster of misunderstandings, ridiculous logic, and an MC who just wants to live a quiet life but keeps accidentally conquering everything. From cultists who worship his “hidden genius” to knights who challenge him based on nothing, Darin’s journey is one long scream of frustration—and I am here for it.What to expect:✅ A completely unwilling protagonist forced into being a Dark Lord.✅ Idiots everywhere who think every accident is proof of his power.✅ A legendary chicken-based combat strategy (Yes, this is a thing).✅ Zero face-slapping arrogance—just pure comedic suffering.✅ An MC who spends half the novel trying (and failing) to run away. This is not your standard power fantasy. This is pure, unfiltered nonsense, and I hope you enjoy every second of Darin’s pain. This is my first attempt at comedy, so let me know what you think! If you love misunderstandings, satire, and a protagonist who just wants a refund on his life, this might be the novel for you.Enjoy the madness. ??
Impressed. I believe your work has great potential and I’d love to help showcase it through story art animation and i can also help you to reach a wider audience . Additionally, do you have other social media accounts where I can connect with you? You can find me on Instagram and discord :@book_blaze.
I haven't finished this book however it's an amazing masterpiece still finishing reading it but it's an assassin Novel without the main character being an edgelordthe characters seem real and natural and conflict seems to flow very well amazing scenes
This is a great novel so far. The only complaints I have is the lack of commas and periods, and the incorrect use of quotations. Quotations are only meant for conversations or quotes. Not paragraphs.
Shameless review from author, I wish everyone appreciates my book. If you are interested in giving out suggestions, feel free to do so. Thank you for reading and I hope you stay for the ride!
The beginning is a bit complicated; your character quickly takes the initiative to embark on an adventure and change their life. However, I really like the direction the story is taking and the originality of the trials. ?
