Okay so let me just talk about Gu Yu for a second because this man is something else. I need to understand what kind of person stands there and lets someone insult their partner and then just... doesn't flinch. That moment when the plump girl says 'I thought Brother Gu Yu's partner would be much prettier' and Yan Zhao just shrinks into herself—my heart literally ached. But then Gu Yu drops that line: 'Did your upbringing get eaten by dogs? Apologize!' And I just— I lost it. He doesn't even look at her twice. Cold. Decisive. And then the word 'beloved' just rolls off his tongue like it's the most natural thing in the world. Liu Manqing's face though, oh my god. You could see the exact moment her mask cracked. But what really got me is the walking scene afterward. When those other students approach and start looking at Yan Zhao with curiosity and judgment, Gu Yu doesn't say a word. He just steps forward and shields her behind him. The text says his profile was 'clean and handsome, the lines of his brow bone softening, no longer appearing sharp.' That's not an accident. That's a man who has spent years being cold and distant to everyone except this one person, and he can't even help it. The girls behind them are whispering about how 'devoted' he is, and honestly? They're right. He's devoted in a way that doesn't need grand declarations. It's in the shielding, in the dumpling bowl, in the way he lowers himself to her eye level without even thinking about it.
I need to talk about pacing because these chapters are a masterclass in slow-burn storytelling that never feels slow. Let's look at the structure. Chapter 10 is essentially a errand run. A bus ride, some shopping, a minor conflict with a neighbor, and a return home. On paper, this should be boring. But the author keeps us engaged by layering in information at every turn. The bus ride establishes the social hierarchy. The meat station establishes the economic constraints. Wang Guihua introduces conflict. Auntie Li introduces an ally. The return trip shows Mu Youyou's strategic thinking. By the time she gets home, we've learned so much about this world and this character that the chapter feels dense, not dragging. Chapter 11 shifts to the cooking sequence, and the pacing here is different—it's intimate, domestic, almost meditative. But it's never boring because every action reveals character. Gu Beiting chopping meat "smoothly and skillfully"—he's capable. He watches her cook instead of leaving—something is shifting. The lard scene is the emotional peak of the chapter, and it's placed perfectly after we've settled into the domestic rhythm. Chapter 12 continues the domestic thread but adds the neighbor exchange and the backyard scene. The pacing accelerates slightly with Gu Beiting's internal monologue at the end, which acts as a mini cliffhanger—"Could it be… I like her?" Chapter 13 is pure emotional aftermath. Gu Beiting can't sleep. He replays the day. He smokes in the yard. The chapter is short but it lands because all the tension from the previous chapters has nowhere to go but inward. What I love most is how the author controls reader engagement. There are no action sequences, no dramatic revelations, no plot twists. Just daily life. And yet I was absolutely hooked. That's the power of good pacing—when every scene serves character development and emotional progression, even a bus ride becomes compelling.
The most devastating moment in this entire passage isn't a dramatic confrontation or a shocking revelation. It's this: Qi Siye asks Wen Yan if she needs anything, she says "just buy me two bottles of water," and then FORTY MINUTES pass and he never comes back. Let that sink in. Forty minutes. She's alone in a hospital room, injured, waiting for her fiancé to bring her water, and he's probably in the next room making sure Jiang Wantang is comfortable. She eventually gives up and gets water from the dispenser herself. "Someone who didn't belong to her—even ordering them around felt like a luxury." That sentence absolutely wrecked me. The stakes here aren't life or death in the traditional sense. They're smaller, quieter, and somehow more horrifying. The stake is whether Wen Yan will finally see that she is choosing to stay in a relationship where she is fundamentally invisible. Every time Qi Siye leaves her, every time he chooses Wantang, every time he forgets she exists—she stays. She picks up the phone when Lu Zheng calls. She goes to the hospital. She accepts his half-hearted apologies. She waits. But the external conflict is also ratcheting up with this new case Lu Zheng brings her—"far-reaching implications and powerful forces behind it." A journalist getting pulled into something dangerous? That's a classic setup for raising the stakes beyond just romantic drama. And Xie Cheng's presence adds another layer of tension—what is his deal? Why does he care? The promise he mentioned, the duty he's fulfilling... something is coming and I am NOT ready.
I've been reading this book for a while now, and it's amazing! although my words can't do this work of art justice I'll try my best: The characters feel so real and the author does an amazing job in making all of the magical laws make sense. when the protagonist becomes more powerful it isn't in some vague way that he is suddenly "stronger" but he gains some new thing through hard work. it makes the story that much more impressive because it feels like he is just describing how another world works rather than some make belive thing!
Dear Author, I'm a big admirer of your writing! After reading your book, I was blown away by your talent. I have some ideas on how to take your book to the next level and expand its readership. Would you be willing to listen to my feedback and suggestions?

Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
Hello great author, I'm a huge fan of your work! Your book left a lasting impression on me, and I believe it has the potential to reach even more readers. I'd be honored to share some thoughts on how to enhance its impact and visibility. Would you be open to hearing my thoughts?

"I really enjoy the story, particularly how the system unfolds and how the main character evolves over time. It's still too early to say too much, but so far, it’s been incredibly engaging. Overall, I’d give it a 10/10!"
