Okay so let me just say this plot move by Xiao Fu Shi was actually kind of brilliant and I can't stop thinking about it. She walks into the main wife's house with her daughter who has a heat rash, acts all humble and sweet, asks for some ice... and then FAINTS right there in front of everyone. Like, who does that? Who plans to be dramatic AND accidentally pull off the most dramatic moment of the chapter? But here's what really got me — the father's reaction. He literally DARTED out like an arrow from a bow. Not walked, not hurried, DARTED. And then he carried her to the west courtyard himself while the main wife just stood there frozen. That single moment tells you everything about where his heart actually lies after all these years. The subplot with Yu Ping is also doing a lot of heavy lifting here. This maid is clearly the kind of servant who remembers every slight and keeps a mental ledger. She knows Xiao Fu Shi's history — how she allegedly seduced the master during the mourning period, how she mistreated the Fu family's former servants. And yet here she is, watching her mistress execute a masterclass in social maneuvering. The fact that Yu Ping thinks Xiao Fu Shi's attempt was "rather clumsy" is honestly hilarious because it worked perfectly. I also love how the ice basin shortage ties into everything. Five or six hundred taels for government connections, four or five hundred more for the capital — this family is performing wealth they can't afford, and that financial pressure is what creates the scarcity that becomes the weapon. The drought makes it worse. Every detail connects.
The pacing shift between Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 is fascinating. Chapter 12 is pure kinetic energy—swords clashing, gales erupting, techniques named and deployed. It's breathless. Then Chapter 13 opens with a solar term poem and the most tranquil setup imaginable: "The nation was peaceful and prosperous, so this year's winter banquet would proceed as usual." That contrast is deliberate. The author takes a hard right from life-or-death combat into courtly politeness, and it works because the tension doesn't disappear—it just changes form. Pei Nai's goal shifts from surviving a duel to remaining "inconspicuous, blending among the families of officials—just to catch a distant glimpse of them." The stakes are still high (she hasn't uncovered the truth behind her rebirth), but the expression of those stakes is completely different. The Yuanxiao Pavilion scene then layers in another type of tension—social tension. Yixi's warning "Let's hope they don't come to the eastern wing" followed by the immediate arrival of Jiang Qingyue and Jin Ling'er is classic comedic timing. The author lets the reader breathe between conflicts, which makes each new conflict feel fresh rather than exhausting. What I appreciate most is that the chapter structure mirrors Pei Nai's own experience: she moves from a place of physical danger to a place of social danger, and neither feels safe. The pacing never lets you settle.
I want to talk about how the author structures these chapters because the pacing is absolutely relentless and I couldn't put it down. Chapter 4 starts with rumors — that's smart. We don't get the event, we get the AFTERMATH. The public perception. This immediately creates dramatic irony because we know the truth and everyone else has the wrong version. Then we cut to the soldiers surrounding the residence. Then the confrontation. Then Xiao Mingyue walking out. Then being dragged into the carriage. That's four major beats in one chapter and none of them drag. Chapter 5 starts with house arrest — a quiet, suffocating chapter — and then Wei Lin arrives with the news about her father. The transition from confinement to revelation is perfect. We go from 'how long has this been going on?' to 'your father is in prison' and the reader gets both the mystery and the answer simultaneously. Then the river scene. Then the slap. Then the kick. Then the flashback. Then the dungeon. That's a lot for one chapter, but it works because each beat escalates the emotional stakes. And Chapter 6 — the System reveal — comes at the perfect moment. Xiao Mingyue is at her lowest, bound to a pillar, and then BAM, the entire genre shifts. The pacing here is masterful because the reveal doesn't just surprise us; it recontextualizes everything we've read so far. The author also uses cliffhangers brilliantly. Each chapter ends on a note that demands the next: 'She was the legitimate daughter... Yet how could she possibly be a match for Feng Buji?' That line at the end of Chapter 5 is devastating because it's both a question and an answer — she can't win, not against this version of him. And the System chapter ends with Hua Heng asking 'You really heard it?' — a perfect hook that leaves us desperate to know what happens next.

Good concept author. Keep up the good work???
Love this book so much❤️? FINALLY, someone wrote about a book with the main character transmigrating into a book/comic as the FL and giving HELL to the stupid ML, his mistress and his family who mistreated the FL. It’s something some of us readers would love to do if we were given the chance to jump into the book and knock the crap out of the stupid people in the book. This book is hilarious, a gem, and a breath of fresh air.
"Intriguing mystery and the curse coin, dark atmosphere, unique world. In future I know you will deliver more and super excited , so thank you for your hard work. Worth a read for fantasy/mystery fans."Thank you...
original novel name please? xxxxxx
I know it’s unlikely but I’m curious does he reconcile with his family preferably his sister I won’t really mind if it’s done well. She could do something to show that she’s sincerely sorry and all but if it happens, during the process they shouldn’t know he’s rich.
well this novel is funny as hell with twist of action
