Okay, let me just start by saying: the nose-wipe moment in Chapter 5 is EVERYTHING. I read it and immediately screamed into my pillow. Here's Lu Beizhen—a man who couldn't even look at Song Tian two chapters ago—suddenly reaching out, his calloused thumb brushing oil off her nose with this terrifying tenderness. And Song Tian? She felt "electrocuted." Not butterflies. Not a crush. ELECTROCUTED. That's the language the author uses when two people are about to realize they're falling for each other whether they want to or not. What makes this scene work so well is the contrast. Earlier, Lu Beizhen was all cold eyes and sharp tones—"Throw the handkerchief away and get in the car." But then his thumb touches her nose and suddenly his voice is "low and husky." The author doesn't need to say "he was falling in love." They just show us his body betraying him. And Fang Shuqin? Oh my god, Fang Shuqin sees it all and is VIBRATING in the back seat. "Your progress is going way too fast!" she whispers like a proud matchmaker who just won the lottery. But here's what gets me—the tragedy underneath. Song Tian isn't doing this because she loves him. She's surviving. She needs six months, she needs money, she needs to build a life she can walk away from. Every sweet moment between them is layered with her secret calculation. And Lu Beizhen? He's convinced he's just being polite, just cleaning grease. Neither of them knows what's actually happening. That dramatic irony is so delicious I can't even. And Fang Shuqin's internal monologue about how "when someone loves without realizing it, they always find an excuse"—she's so right and so painfully funny. This mother-in-law is basically running a romance novel in her head while the actual characters are still in chapter one of their emotional journey.
Okay so let me just say this: the pacing in these chapters is absolutely masterful and I need to talk about it because the way the author builds tension is no joke. It starts so mundanely. Market day. Buying fabric. Mingtao running around excited about trinkets. You're lulled into this cozy little rhythm, right? Like, oh this is just a slice-of-life story about rebuilding after hardship. And then—bam—the storm hits. Not just a weather event, but the narrative equivalent of a door slamming shut. The chapter structure here is brilliant because it mirrors Zhong Yizhu's psychological state. The market scene is bright, noisy, full of movement. Then the storm comes and everything contracts—into his room, into darkness, into that single terrifying moment where a shadow appears beside his bed. The pacing literally shrinks the world around him, and you feel it. But what really got me was the transition from the attack to the aftermath. One moment he's fighting for his life, the next Sun Yun-niang is there with a broken clay pot and the most devastating maternal energy I've ever read. And then—immediately—they're dragging a body into the forest. No time to breathe, no time to process. The author doesn't let up for a single second. And then Pei Mu's door. The proposal scene. It's such a structural pivot—from survival horror to something almost romantic in its desperation. Zhong Yizhu running away in tears, then Pei Mu calling after him with that one question: 'Who hurt you?' That line is a cliffhanger disguised as a question. It changes everything. The chapter ends with Zhang Guihua spreading rumors and Wu Cuijuan listening with satisfaction. The author keeps stacking threats like dominoes, and you just know the next chapter is going to explode. I stayed up way too late reading this batch. No regrets.

Wow, the chapters never fail to give me chills! Ivie's vision felt so real, and the creepy cat and bloodstain made it even more intense. The hotty priest is super intriguing—I can't wait to see how he fits into the mystery. Loving the suspense so far! Ivie, I know you want to, but please, I beg you, don't kill him, we wanna see you with him, not with his deadbody?
I really like the drone bee father. he gets to use a unique system to make his bee offspring stronger, as he does. they have bee battles & they evolve ! so cool ! I can't wait for next chapters !
