Okay so let me just say—He Yanzhi is one of those characters who makes you fall in love with how he SHOWS love rather than says it. Think about it. The guy barely speaks five words in a conversation, but every single action is deliberate. He serves Chen Shuang the preserved meat FIRST before eating himself. He wordlessly takes the heaviest basket when she returns from shopping. He mimics her by the well, scraping fish scales with focused intensity like it's some critical mission. That's not a man who doesn't care—that's a man who cares so deeply he doesn't need words to prove it. And the moment when he tells Zhou Ma to call him Yanzhi at home? Chills. Absolute chills. That's him opening a door, just a crack, and inviting someone in. It's huge for a character who's been stoic this entire time. But what really got me is how his relationship with Chen Shuang evolves. They start as strangers on a hard bed with distance between them, and by the end of these chapters, he's saying 'At home, I'll leave things to you from now on.' That's not just trust—that's partnership. He's handing her the reins of their shared life because he believes in her. The way he watches her weave bamboo baskets, checks the vegetable growth, notices the lined newspapers on the wall—these tiny details show a man who is silently investing in this home, in her, in the future they're building together. Zhang Caifeng is the perfect foil here. She's loud, performative, trying to insert herself into He Yanzhi's space with bright smiles and unsolicited offers. And he? He doesn't even look at her. He turns to Chen Shuang and asks if she's thirsty. That contrast says everything about who he really is and who he chooses. The dynamic between Chen Shuang and He Yanzhi isn't fireworks—it's something I think is more rare and valuable. It's two people learning to read each other's silence. She knows he enjoys the preserved meat because he takes extra helpings. He knows she's composed at the study session because he notices her serene profile in the sunset. They're building a language together, word by wordless word.
Okay so this banquet scene is absolutely brutal in the best way. Lu Jing just casually drops that bomb about Yuanle and suddenly Gu Ningxi's entire life gets rerouted. I love how the text frames it: "With just a few words, her fate was decided." She didn't even get a say in any of this. And the Crown Prince's response? He basically says "fine, go to Prince Zhao's residence, but if there are problems come tell me directly." That's not kindness, that's strategic. He's keeping her close while also not burning bridges with his brother. Meanwhile her father's reaction to all this is... weirdly calm? Like, she expects him to be stressed about the Gu family's alignment with the Eastern Palace, but he just says "that is also acceptable" and "you need only fulfill your duties." Either the Marquis is the chilliest politician alive or he's got a backup plan we haven't seen yet. I'm betting on the latter. Also the dream sequence? Classic author move to make things awkward between the two leads before they even have to interact face to face. She's already embarrassed and now she has to WORK for him? The plot is setting up this delicious tension.
I need to talk about the bodyguard because honestly he's doing more worldbuilding than half the descriptive passages in this book. The man is basically the camera lens we're supposed to see through. When he watches his young mistress throw around money she doesn't have, when he puffs out his chest at her quick wit, when he's genuinely worried about provoking Qin Heming—this is how we understand the power structure of this world. The cafe scene is perfect because it establishes everything in one go. Xia Nanxing's empty card, the bodyguard's shock, the system's intervention before the slap even lands. We're in a world where even physical violence is scripted and monitored. The fact that she's "putting on a show" and the system alerts her beforehand—that's not just plot convenience, that's the entire premise of this world. Reality itself is curated. And then there's the Lu Corporation scene, which hits different. Xia Nanxing walking in like she owns the place because she's presented herself as the future madam, and the employees treat her with respect. But then Xia Yingying bumps into her, falls dramatically, and suddenly Lu Huaijin is there grabbing Xia Nanxing's wrist. The office becomes a battlefield where Xia Nanxing's status means nothing against the female lead's performance of fragility. The birthday banquet looming at the end of Chapter 1 is such a great worldbuilding detail too—it's not just a party, it's the climax of the entire storyline, the moment where the narrative is supposed to resolve. Everything in these chapters builds toward that single event. The world feels alive because every character is playing their assigned role, and the tension comes from watching Xia Nanxing slowly realize she's the only one who knows she's acting.
Great way of showing the Power of Hades, and explored deeper on the Greek Mythology. Looking forward on what would happen after the war.
I am absolutely hooked on this novel, just wished there were more chapters?
(On ch 19, dont know if it shows on web)Very interested in Galios, not sure if they're gonna be allies or enemies, but still interesting so far
I read it till chapter 2 for now, so far I'm liking it. i don't want to finish it yet and let it marinate ?.
Great start and everything, even if the humor kind of clashes with the huge misery sandwich that is the beginning, but the update speed worries me. I know that us authors are busy folk but still. And also. HILLBILLIES. Loved that. Will read more later.
Intersting bro ?.,……………………………………………………..
