The dialogue in this chapter is absolutely vicious and I mean that as the highest compliment. Emperor Zhou's voice is this incredible mix of brutal honesty and accidental tenderness. He calls his own son "stubborn, weak, short and stubby, petty-minded—what is there about you worth liking?" and then immediately follows it up by threatening to kill anyone who scolds him. The man cannot express love without wrapping it in barbed wire. And Wu Junji's retorts! "If Father Emperor is willing to bow, I'll accept it." "Is Father afraid of being scolded?" This kid is TWO and he's verbally sparring with the Emperor like a seasoned politician. The dialogue between them crackles because both of them are using words as weapons, neither willing to yield. The system 88 provides this great comic relief with its deadpan reactions—"In simple terms?" after Wu Junji's elaborate speech about making Chen Yu live in fear. The contrast between the system's literal thinking and the humans' layered, manipulative communication is hilarious. But the most powerful dialogue moment is probably the silence. After the slap, nobody speaks. Emperor Zhou flees. Wu Junji touches his ear. The servants don't know whether to react or freeze. Sometimes what's NOT said is the loudest thing in the chapter.
The way this author writes the kitchen scenes is so vivid I can literally smell the lamb soup. Let me paint you the picture: Chunyan and Xialiu already busy, Cook Kong throwing shade from the corner, the morning lamb simmering in broth, almonds hitting the clay pot to cut the gamey smell. It's all very grounded and sensory. You can feel the heat of the kitchen, the steam rising, the urgency of breakfast service. But then there's the contrast with the Qinzhu Courtyard. Closed doors and windows, servants who don't even announce visitors anymore because they've gotten used to Chef Yao just walking in, Fuman clearing his throat to block Yao Chengcheng's view of the Prince. The Prince's residence feels like a different world—quieter, more controlled, more dangerous. And the tea cabinet scene! Yao Chengcheng rummaging through cabinets, finding this tea cake that looks decent, sniffing it like a sommelier, completely unaware she's about to use the Emperor's personal tribute tea. That moment when Auntie Mu's eyes widen and she asks about the top cabinet with the square tea cake—chills. The worldbuilding here is doing so much heavy lifting through these small environmental details.
This chapter is a masterclass in slow-burn pacing and I need to talk about how the author controls the rhythm. It starts quiet. Su Qing at breakfast. The villa. The nervous energy. Then it pivots HARD into the strawberry scene—which is intimate, almost romantic, and then immediately undercuts itself with Lu Zhixing's internal gloom over the roses. One moment they're feeding each other fruit like a rom-com, the next he's silently seething about a flower. That whiplash IS the pacing. The author doesn't let you settle. Then we get the domestic interlude—Wen Wu waking up, the topknot, the toothbrushing, the walk back to find Mommy. It's warm. It's soft. It feels like a breath. And then—BAM. The fairy tale scene. The Little Mermaid. The question about love. The child's topknot drooping. The chapter ends on "Why are you crying?" and I am NOT prepared for what comes next. What I love about the structure here is how the author uses Wen Wu as a pacing device. She's the emotional barometer. When she's happy and laughing, the chapter feels light. When she asks about love and gets no answer, the whole tone shifts. The chapter moves from morning routine → romantic tension → domestic warmth → emotional devastation, and it does it all in what feels like a single breathless sitting. The breakfast scene with Su Qing is also brilliantly paced. Four people, barely any dialogue, just the sound of eating and the weight of everything unsaid. "Neither Wen Lan nor Lu Zhixing were particularly talkative." And yet the silence is LOUD. You can feel Lu Zhixing's restraint, Wen Lan's observation, Su Qing's nervousness, all compressed into a meal that passes in "peaceful silence." The author trusts the reader to feel the tension without spelling it out. And that ending. The Little Mermaid story about sacrificing everything for love, followed by a child asking if her mommy loves her daddy, followed by the child turning away with a drooping topknot... the pacing here goes from storytime to heartbreak so fast you don't see it coming. That's not rushing—that's precision.
if you drop this then you are............?
overall 4 stars from me!, it's been interesting story the world building and how the system works, also as an exchange of the gifts there's consequences ... i like the consequences part!??keep going Author!
Hello! Shameless author here! I was inspired to write this story when my son mentioned being afraid monsters might come. I promised him I would beat them up for him, but then I realized: I would be totally screwed if that actually happened! So I started writing ?. I spent a long time, planning, editing, and reviewing before release, so I look forward to sharing this story with everyone! Still, your feedback is valuable, both positive and negative, so feel free to leave reviews, comments, and if you’re really liking the story, a power stone or two? No? That’s ok too ?
Wow! I don't get where the author was going with this prologue. But the scale of story and power levels is insane.I don't know if I am to pity their fates or say they deserved it.Everything is a scheme. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad. So far it's perfect, I guess. And a protagonist creating his own rediculously OP System? This story is definitely not for light hearted audiences. Can't wait for more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While this novel offers a fascinating mix of advanced technology and magic, it doesn’t always balance the two seamlessly. The world-building is impressive, but some aspects feel underdeveloped, and the pacing can be inconsistent. That said, if you enjoy fantasy blended with mechs and space-faring sci-fi, it’s still worth checking out. It may not be perfect, but it delivers an entertaining ride.
