I need to just sit with this scene for a second. Xie Wenxing telling his brother about his crush. That's it. That's the note. "But you have to promise me you won't tell Mom and Dad. This stays between us, heaven knows, earth knows, you know, I know. No third person gets to know!" Then he adds, "If you tell anyone, you're a dog!" And Xie Wenliang actually swears on his life. I swear to god I melted. The whole dynamic between these two brothers is just so warm and real. Five-year age gap, Xie Wenliang has always been the protector, and here he is sitting with his younger brother under moonlight, listening to him ramble about this person he can't stop thinking about. And the way Xie Wenxing gets SHY about it—blushing, fidgeting with his pants, voice halting—while simultaneously being so earnest and bright-eyed? It's devastating in the best way. But what really got me was the moment Xie Wenxing presses his hand to his chest and says, "My heart races like crazy. Brother, am I sick?" That question. That genuine, vulnerable question from someone who's never felt anything like this before. And Xie Wenliang's response—teasing him, then getting serious, then reassuring him that his parents would be thrilled? The brother is literally glowing with happiness that his shy little sibling finally has someone. And then the kicker—Xie Wenxing FORGETS to tell his brother that Xu Huai'an is a boy. He's so caught up in his pursuit plan and nervous energy that this crucial detail just slips his mind. I laughed out loud. This kid is so new to all of this, so earnest and clumsy and real. "He had made up his mind. He was going to pursue Xu Huai'an." First crush, no experience, A4 sheets of notes. That's the kind of innocence that makes your chest ache.
Okay, I need to talk about this moment because my hands are literally still shaking. When Gu Yu looks at Liu Manqing and says "She is my wife" — not girlfriend, not partner, not some vague thing that leaves room for interpretation — that was the single most defining character moment in these chapters. Think about what he was doing before this. He'd been holding her hand in the hallway, whispering to her, bringing her a novel during an experiment class he clearly could've just skipped. He was already choosing her in a thousand tiny ways. But the hallway confrontation? That's when he made it irreversible. And Liu Manqing's reaction says everything about her character too. She genuinely believed she had a claim on him. "You clearly said you would help me!" Like her academic favor was some kind of romantic contract. The way the text describes her — face paling, pupils dilated, realizing she'd been clinging to self-delusion — it's brutal in the best way. Gu Yu doesn't even flinch. He just casually drops "That's because your grades were too terrible" like he's discussing the weather. That man has zero patience for people who waste his time or misunderstand his boundaries. But what really got me is Yan Zhao's side of this. She keeps trying to pull away, keeps saying "someone like me" like it's a fact rather than the insecurity it is. And Gu Yu? He just keeps pulling her back. Not with grand speeches — with actions. Taking her hand. Bringing her to class. Letting her hide behind a novel when she feels inadequate. The teacher calling her his wife and Gu Yu confirming it without a second thought — he's not performing for anyone. He's just stating a truth he's already lived. I keep going back to the detail about his personal space. The text specifically mentions he instinctively avoids even accidental touches on ordinary days. But with Yan Zhao? He holds her hand firmly, lets her grab his shirt hem, sits close enough that she can smell his soap. That contrast isn't subtle — it's the entire thesis of their relationship written in body language.
There's something haunting about the recurring imagery of money and value in this text, and I think it's the central theme. Let me just start with the most obvious symbol: the silver. Sheng Xia's mother takes the silver and walks away smiling. The silver is what separates a child from her family. It's the price of survival. And then there's the contrast between the two sisters—the one who sends money gets visited, the one who doesn't is called useless. Even within the family, love is measured in currency. But the deeper symbolism is in Sheng Xia herself. She's described as "delicate and lovely, like snow and jade"—jade being something valuable, something to be traded. She's literally being sold, and the narrative doesn't shy away from that. But what's fascinating is how the text also introduces the Duke's household as a relatively kinder alternative. The servants buy directly from parents instead of using brokers who kidnap children. They pay fairly. They sometimes waive redemption fees. This isn't a world where everyone is evil—it's a world where the system itself is the villain, and even the "kind" versions of it still require children to be commodities. The bathing scene is symbolic too: they're washing away not just lice and dirt but their old identities. They're being cleaned and prepared for a new purpose. And Sheng Xia's realization—that she can rely on no one but herself—is the thematic core. The story seems to be asking: in a world where human beings are bought and sold, where love is conditional and transactional, what does it mean to survive? And more importantly, what does it mean to stay human while doing it?
I need to talk about Su Xiaoyin's dialogue because this woman is UNHINGED in the best way possible. "Don't be shy, didn't you still want to marry me? If we get married, touching your thigh won't be the only thing I'll do." SHE JUST SAID THAT. Out loud. In a dimly lit room. To a man who is already burning up. And then she immediately switches to professional mode: "Lie down and relax. It might hurt a little, don't be afraid." The whiplash is incredible. She's teasing him one second, being genuinely gentle the next. And Yuan Songzhi's responses — or lack thereof — are so telling. "Start." Two words. That's all he manages. The man is internally screaming and he's communicating in monosyllables. But what I love most is how natural their dialogue feels. There's no performative romance here. Su Xiaoyin says things like "I am full. I am sleepy" and Yuan Songzhi just... takes care of her. He notices she likes braised beef, he orders beef noodles when she complains, he says he'll cook at noon and come back. No grand declarations, just actions that speak louder than anything he could say. And the side characters! Widow Liu: "None of your damn business!" *slap* — perfect. Lin Limei's internal monologue about her previous life memories is such a distinct voice from everyone else. You can tell she's the antagonist just from how she thinks. The author's dialogue has this wonderful rhythm where the subtext is always louder than the text.

Great Story, Banging Story, Amazon story— no more words. It's refreshing to see a father-daughter concept with system. Frank is a good father but he might not be a good team member at the moment. Can't wait to see a character development in him. And I already love Elena, Max and Leo. They are sensible, care for Frank; so nothing can be grater than that for me.And Ana is adorable but we need more chs to know about her. Well, now main part why you should read this story.1. Top-notch grammar.2. A fast-paced storyline 3. Great Characters. (side + main)4. Unique Plot line. But it's too early to judge, I hope author-san doesn't disappoint me!
