I need to be honest with you—I did NOT expect to get emotional over a baking scene. But the moment Su Xiucai saw that silver leaf? I was wrecked. Let me set the context first. This is a family that has been scraping by. The father is sick in bed. The mother is weaving bamboo baskets at night. The kids are watching their sister work herself to the bone, whisking egg whites until her arms go from numb to burning. And then this silver leaf appears—worth one thousand wen, which is described as 'the sum Su Xiucai had painstakingly saved in the past, working year after year, eating little and writing books for others.' The text says: 'Su Xiucai struggled to prop himself up, staring fixedly at the silver leaf. Something surged violently in his cloudy eyes. Wang Shi covered her mouth, tears falling without warning, each droplet striking the rough skin of her hand.' That's it. That's all the author gives us and it DESTROYED me. No grand speech, no dramatic music—just a father who's been failing his family suddenly seeing hope materialize in his daughter's calm hands. And Qingyan's response? 'We're not rich. This is the key to opening our path.' She doesn't get lost in the moment. She immediately frames it as a tool, not an end. That maturity is both heartbreaking and beautiful. The family bond throughout this entire passage is what makes the business strategy land emotionally. This isn't just a girl making money—this is a daughter lifting her entire family out of survival mode with nothing but knowledge and nerve. When Su Mingyue and Su Mingyao are 'poking at the silver leaf, their faces full of curiosity and joy,' I felt this warm ache in my chest. And then Su Mingxuan at the end, dumping three hundred wen on the table and stammering 'Sis... we only sold ten cakes and earned three hundred wen...' like his brain simply cannot process the miracle. I love this family so much.
Let me just say this—this author knows how to paint a scene. I don't mean fancy descriptive prose or purple prose. I mean the kind of worldbuilding that makes you FEEL like you're standing in that village, smelling the autumn air and hearing the villagers gossiping between fields. The opening scene is brutal but vivid. You can practically smell the 'foul-smelling, fishy liquid' of the Soul-Severing Soup. You can hear the hushed voices—'keep your voice down, someone might hear!'—which immediately tells you this isn't the first time they've tried something like this. The setting of a dim, enclosed space where a sixteen-year-old girl is being force-fed poison while two people whisper conspiratorially? That's horror. That's intimate. That's the kind of scene that makes your skin crawl. But then the author pulls back and shows us the wider world, and THAT'S where the worldbuilding really shines. The villagers hearing Chen Feicai's screams and thinking 'who's slaughtering a pig?' is one of the most chilling moments in these chapters. They're so starved, so desperate for meat, that they interpret a girl beating her abusers as a celebration feast. The line about 'seeing blood brings good fortune. Eating meat gives you the strength of an ox' is both darkly funny and heartbreaking. The setting of Maple Leaf Village itself feels alive. It's a place where the imperial court keeps raising taxes, where war is coming, where ordinary people are barely surviving on sweet potatoes and grains. The Chen family is relatively well-off because the father is village chief and the son just became a xiucai scholar. But even they're not immune to the hardship—Wang Chuntao has to hide money and jewelry, and the villagers are willing to bring their last portions of food just for a chance at pork. And the manure scene—yes, I'm calling it what it is. Lin Xiazhi dumping a bucket of human waste over two unconscious people while holding her breath? That's not just comedic relief. That's a visual that sticks with you. The contrast between the golden autumn sunlight and the stinking, filthy scene in the Chen courtyard is almost cinematic. The author also drops hints about the larger world without info-dumping. We learn about the Great Sheng Dynasty, about the marriage contract laws, about the refugee crisis coming from enemy invasion. All of this is woven into Lin Xiazhi's thoughts as she plans her escape. The world feels lived-in and real, not just a backdrop for the protagonist's revenge fantasy.
After reviewing my work I'm trying to be better but unfortunately I will probably will stop writing because of my exams and how IRL treat me this days my work is still on prologue state
This is an awesome story! The writing is top-notch and the world-building is fantastic. The pacing is also great and the characters are well developed. I really got hooked with the story. Keep up the good work!
5 star, cuz why not?. I am shameless, hell i stood at its peak. Though, well if you have doubts, just read the free chaps. You will get the understanding of the book. Then you can decide it, also let's point out some things.1. This is my second book, and not brag, but I have improved a lot like fr. So you can expect some less grammar mistakes and easy language. 2. The world building in this book, is quite large and fleshed out, so you can be assured about that. 3. Our MC is neutral, but he is cold and ruthless towards his enemies. He literally will kill anyone who tries to harm his lovers. 4. The book's main focus will be on Action and Romance but it also has a nice dose of slice of life chapters. 5. There is no yuri or any other same shit in the book. Though for smut, it will depend on the popularity and demand of the readers. 6. BEAUTIFUL GIRLS. 7. Even more BEAUTIFUL GIRLS.Now stop wasting your time here and go read buddy, also empty those power stones and golden tickets in your account, if you like the book. You can also use this section, as QnA section for the book.
I really appreciate such mysterious stories in which MC has some extraordinary mental excellence yet his character is good towards others! Such MCs are my favourite type. Great work ?
Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
"An absolutely captivating werewolf story! The world-building is rich, and the characters are incredibly engaging. The tension and excitement build with every chapter, keeping me hooked. Can’t wait for more!
I so much love the comic version. I wish the novel had more chapters
I love the story so far, it has given me a lot of inspiration and I find myself hard pressed to not create something similar with a father and his kids creating a ragtag team of adventurers. Loving Frank, with all of his faults, he is a good dad. There's a lot of action and intense moments that keep you reading. The stats aren't overdone which is nice for a litrpg. The stats are important, of course, but it's like not like every chapter bombards you with a bunch of text to read. The side characters are pretty solid too, they feel like actual people instead of just background noise. Everyone has their own struggles and unique personalities. There's a couple slow points, but it's an important part of the story, the character building is vital. The world building is pretty strong, I honestly expected it to just be another "transported to another world" kind of thing. It's giving some serious survival/horror/litrpg vibes. Honestly worth the read. I didn't have any specific reasons to give a score below 5 stars. It might be generous, but I mean the quality is great, the frequency of updates are solid, the development has no issues by my standards, the characters are wonderful, and the world background was more than I expected. So I don't think it's too much to give it a solid 5 stars. Keep up the good work, I'll save this for reading, and maybe jump into a couple chapters as they are released. My time is limited, but this is one thing that is worth budgeting for.
This book is awesome from the start and tho there are a lil bit of inconsistency, the author may improve a lot soon.
