TheRuler001
Okay so let me just say this rebirth premise could have been so lazy—wake up, get revenge, slaps faces, done. But the author is playing a different game here. Fu Chuan isn't even seeking revenge. He's just... leaving. That's the twist that got me. In his past life he gave everything to a family that only ever saw him as a background character, and this time he doesn't even bother fighting for their attention anymore. The moment he realizes the family photo was thrown away and just says "throw it away then" and walks off—that's not anger, that's indifference. And honestly? That's way more powerful. The subplot with Shen Shutang is interesting too. She's this established online author, school beauty, repeating senior—and she's the one making the first move. In his previous life they were strangers, but now she's the one noticing him on the bus, stealing glances, trying to start a conversation. The narrative is flipping the usual script in a way that feels fresh. And that ending with Fu Qingqing asking "Why are you back so late?"—the whole family suddenly caring about his schedule? That's a setup for something. I have a feeling the family is going to start noticing what they lost, and it's going to be delicious. The plot is building this slow burn of consequences. Fu Chuan gets his first illustration commission for 1000 yuan, he's planning to cut ties after graduation, he's focused on the art academy. Every chapter he's one step further from needing them. And the reader? We're just sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop.
This passage absolutely wrecked me in the best way. Let me talk about Fenniang for a second because she is the emotional anchor of this entire scene. The moment she sees Zhuo Ling wearing those patched-up hand-me-downs, with circles upon circles of stitching over the seat... I could feel her heart literally breaking. She picks up her daughter, holds out that bright red cloth, and asks if it's pretty while Zhuo Ling is completely distracted by clay figurines. The girl just nods absentmindedly because eighteen copper coins is more than the family has. And then Fenniang says “Mother has let you down.” That line hit me like a truck. She spent all the money on her husband's wound medicine and still feels guilty for not being able to buy her daughter new clothes. Love really is “always feeling you've fallen short,” as the narration says. Meanwhile, Zhuo Ling's internal monologue is just “So this is what it feels like to be a child with a mother. It's so wonderful.” She didn't even ask for anything. She's the one who earned the money, who found the hairpin, who saved them. And her mother still apologizes to HER. The sibling dynamics are also gorgeous—Zhuo Chang‗an lying with a straight face about the “kind young Madam Pang” to cover up where the refined salt came from, while Zhuo Ling secretly gives him a thumbs-up behind their mother's back. These kids are operating as a team, protecting each other, covering for each other. That's not just family love, that's survival-level loyalty.
I need to talk about Qiu Qiu. I need to talk about her RIGHT NOW because I am still not over it. This little girl—who literally just wanted to live with Lu Gege when she grew up, who saved her handmade gifts, who trusted him enough to fall asleep in his arms while dying—she looks up at him through pain and says 'No... no pain!' She doesn't want him to worry. She's seven and she's already trying to protect the people she loves. And Lu Qing kissing her cheek and saying 'Good girl, just take a nap and you'll feel better'—I'm not crying, you're crying. But honestly? The emotional core of these chapters isn't just the tragedy. It's the contrast. Su Lingwei, who was rejected by her own family because her mother wasn't 'pure-blooded,' who grew up in that same orphanage, who feels worthless because she's not strong enough—she's watching Lu Qing hold this dying child and feeling something shift inside her. She's never seen him like this. The red blood mist. The cold aura. The 'king of cruelty about to awaken.' And Lu Qing? He's someone who was abandoned, who was turned into a vampire, who found purpose in caring for these children—and now someone is hurting them. His rage isn't just about revenge. It's about the fact that he couldn't protect the one thing that made his immortal life feel human. The CP energy between Lu Qing and Su Lingwei is simmering under all this chaos. He promised her 'even if you want the world to end, I'll agree.' She's the only one who sees him vulnerable (carrying her like a kitten), and he's the only one who sees her strength (despite what she thinks). They're both broken in different ways, and somehow that makes them fit together.
The dialogue in this section is absolutely razor-sharp and I need to highlight some of my favorite exchanges because the author has found their rhythm and they are not letting up. Shen Qingci: "Still a virgin, huh?" Xi Xingye: "!!!" Shen Qingci: "Shen Qingci, shut up!" This is peak dialogue. Three lines. She destroys him. He explodes. Perfect. And then later: "You're really like this? Believe me, by tomorrow, the whole circle will be spreading rumors that you're disrespectful and have no manners." Xi Xingye warning her about Lin Shanwan's tactics, and Shen Qingci's response is literally just closing her eyes for a nap. No words. Just... nap. The silence is the dialogue. She doesn't need to respond because his anxiety is his own problem. The Lin Shanwan entrance is also masterclass in dialogue subtext. She comes down the staircase, smiling warmly, touching Shen Qingci's arm, and Shen Qingci withdraws and says "Sorry, I don't like being touched." That's not just a line — that's a declaration of war wrapped in politeness. And Lin Shanwan's reaction? Her eyes narrow slightly. She's been checked and she knows it. Xi Xingye's dialogue with his father Xi Zhenghao is also fantastic: "I want to act like an adult. Acting like an adult is great! Being an adult means you can do whatever you want without breaking the law." Then the pivot: "You agree, right, little white flower?" That nickname drop is so casual and so devastating. He's not just rebelling — he's specifically targeting Lin Shanwan in front of his father, and he's doing it with a smile. The dialogue here does triple duty: it characterizes Xi Xingye as sharp-tongued and defiant, it establishes the father-son tension, and it sets up Lin Shanwan as the actual villain while everyone else is distracted by comedy. Every character has a distinct voice. Shen Qingci is terse and dry. Xi Xingye is defensive and explosive. Lin Shanwan is honey-wrapped poison. The old doctor is cryptic and amused. Even the staff gossip has its own rhythm. This is how you write dialogue.
I have to say out of all the stories from this author this one is my favorite... the flow of the writing, the characters, the world building, everything is much higher quality than average Webnovel other novels. Now the only that annoys me just a little is our mc is quite edgy and yapping about society alot(it get better tho) but man he has skill and will to back up his big mouth, can't wait for more chapters
Alpha Shadows: Forbidden is very interesting! You have great quality writing—engaging and well-structured. Keep up the good work!
Good synopsis, and story, I am definitely hooked
I cant give to much detail to the review because it only has few chapters out, but it looks promising and interesting. The plot is catchy to the eye and in seems to be based in a world of a souls like game, pretty much like shadow slave.I think the idea is good and can explode but we will see the further it advances
good can wait to see it in drama happening in real life
I just finished this in one day! I'm already waiting for new chapters. I can confidently say this novel is a hidden gem—I highly recommend it!
