And then — September 1st. New school. New threats. The transition is so smooth you don't even notice the genre shift happening. One moment you're reading about pastry recipes and the next you're in a life-or-death social confrontation at school. The chapter structure itself is clever. Chapter 15 sets up the new environment — Haitang arriving at school, meeting her deskmate Mingyue, seeing Wen Li's panicked expression. It's all setup, but it doesn't feel slow because every interaction gives you information. Who is Wen Li? Why is she panicking? What's her connection to Haitang's past life? Then Chapter 16 detonates everything. The Zhang Xiaoxue incident escalates in real time — the bump, the confrontation, the chase, the fall, the hospital. Each beat follows the last with zero wasted space. The author doesn't linger on description or internal monologue when action is needed. When Haitang is running down those stairs, the sentences get shorter, the pacing gets faster, and you feel the urgency in the structure itself. And the chapter ends on a cliffhanger — Zhang Xiaoxue accusing Haitang, witnesses still outside, Teacher Zhu arriving with suspicion. I had to keep reading. Obviously.

the story was going good for me until the 70s. had a great pace for me maybe even a little to fast, then we get stuck in a 10+ chapter long "spar". it killed to mood of the story for me. the author definitely slammed on the brakes a little to hard here.
A must read! This is a good book and I must commend the author on the brilliance in portraying the characters so well.. it’s a fantastic book which I can recommend to anyone it will keep you glued to your chair to know what happens next

I'm up to chapter 28 and so far loving this. The FL is super sweet and the 3 ML's are all very detailed and interesting characters. I thought I liked the Commander but the Prince is winning me over - love the burn. Can't wait for more of the two of them. Keep going dear author! You'll get my one vote a day :)
