I need to talk about Lu Jinyu because honestly he is the most frustrating character to read about and I say that with love. So Song Zhiyao sends him a list of her dowry items with two words on the back: Return the Money. And what does he do? He reads it as a threat. A manipulation. A game. Lin Guan Guan whispers in his ear — "maybe she's playing hard to get" — and Lu Jinyu just… nods. He completely accepts this interpretation because it fits his narrative. Song Zhiyao chased him for years. She's obviously still obsessed. Therefore, returning the dowry must be some kind of trick. The tragedy is that Song Zhiyao is trying to do the exact opposite of what he thinks. She's not trying to trap him. She's trying to sever ties. She's returning her dowry because she wants nothing to do with the Lu family anymore. But Lu Jinyu is so wrapped up in his own story — the one where he's the wronged party who escaped a loveless marriage — that he can't process her actually wanting to leave. And the worst part? He still feels a flicker of pride when he sees the list. "His elder brother had married Song Zhiyao—that was eight generations of bad luck." He's insulted on behalf of his brother, not sympathetic to his sister-in-law. Eight generations. That's not just a figure of speech, that's a lifetime of prejudice baked into a single sentence. Meanwhile, Song Zhiyao is over there treating Suxin's frostbitten hands with medicine herself, personally, without being asked. She's trying to make things right with the people who actually matter. And Lu Jinyu can't see past his own ego to notice that the woman he spent years rejecting is now the most decent person in the entire family. I genuinely want to shake him. Not because he's evil, but because he's blind. And his blindness is hurting people who didn't deserve it.
Okay so let me just start by saying the Jiang Chen thread is doing SO MUCH work in these chapters and I need to talk about it because it's honestly the only warm thing in this entire story. Qin Shu is surrounded by people who want to hurt her—Xu Feng who imprisoned her for five years, Qin Yan who physically assaults her maid, the whole Qin family treating her like garbage. And then there's Jiang Chen, who can't even come himself, who has to send aloe vera and burn ointment through Nanny Zhang like some kind of silent supply drop. And yet—that tin tube in her hand is apparently the most precious thing she owns right now. The moment that hit me was when Floating Cloud immediately assumes it's from Young Master Jiang. She's so relieved, her face lights up. But Qin Shu? She just holds that cold metal tube and feels... something. Bitterness. Hot eyes. The text says 'such an insignificant gesture of kindness had become unimaginably precious within this freezing prison.' That's not romance, that's survival. That's someone clinging to the only proof that another human being sees her as a person and not a pawn. And then Xu Feng comes in drunk and for ONE HAZED SECOND—he looks at Qin Shu's face and sees someone from his past. Someone with eyes that 'shone with astonishing brilliance even in absolute despair.' I'm not gonna pretend I didn't notice that. That's not nothing. That's the author literally winking at us and saying 'stay tuned.' But then Qin Yan's perfume erases it. The hatred wins. Of course it wins. What I love is how Qin Shu's relationship with Floating Cloud operates on a completely different frequency. She just got slapped herself, her hand is burned, and the first thing she does is apply medicine to Floating Cloud's swollen face. No words. Just 'move your hand' and then this careful, awkward tenderness. Floating Cloud cries and Qin Shu doesn't say 'it's okay' or anything cheesy—she just keeps applying the medicine until it's done. That's their whole dynamic. They're both broken people holding onto each other in a room that's supposed to be a prison but has become something else. The Qin family dynamics are disgusting but honestly kind of fascinating in how cleanly everyone's true colors show. Qin Yan isn't even subtle about it—she literally set up the whole drunk Xu Feng scenario and then played victim. 'Are you trying to make the Governor catch an illness?' she screams like she's discovered murder. The audacity. And Xu Feng? He's just a vehicle for violence at this point, except that one moment of recognition when he looked at Qin Shu... that's the hook that's gonna keep me reading. Also can we talk about Nanny Zhang? She's trembling, scared out of her mind, and still finds the courage to sneak in and deliver the medicines. 'This old servant can only do this much!' She runs away like she's being chased by ghosts. These tiny people keeping tiny acts of kindness alive in a house full of wolves. I'm not okay. The relationship map in this story is basically: everyone who has power wants to hurt Qin Shu, everyone who doesn't have power tries to help her in the smallest ways possible, and Jiang Chen is somewhere in the middle sending ointment through the mail like a Victorian ghost of kindness. I'm here for it.
I have to address the structural audacity of this section. We go from Jiang Wan's cramped guest room with frayed clothes to a marriage certificate in what feels like the span of a single afternoon, and somehow it doesn't feel rushed at all. The author achieves this through what I can only describe as emotional anchoring — every plot advancement is tied to a sensory or emotional detail that slows us down just enough. The packing scene alone takes up a significant portion of the chapter, and it's not 'filler' — it's where we establish the entire emotional foundation of Gu Shilan and Jiang Wan's relationship before they even say the words 'I love you.' By the time they're stamping marriage certificates, we already understand exactly what this union means to both of them, even if neither has fully admitted it out loud. Then there's the Jiang Ting interruption — her screaming on the bed, the confrontation with her mother about the 'bastard child,' the revelation that thugs were paid to lie. This subplot arrives like a thunderclap right after the marriage registration, which is a brilliant structural choice. Just when you think the story is settling into warmth and domesticity, the author yanks the rug out and reminds you that the family is still a battlefield. The chapter ends with Jiang Yi showing up at the villa and Wen Qing shutting him down with 'There's no Xiao Wan here, only Madam Gu.' That line is a structural mic drop. Three words that reframe everything that came before it.

This book is an absolute page-turner! The mix of mystery, power struggles, and ancient secrets keeps you hooked, and the world-building is top-notch. If you love a smart, intense story with a protagonist who keeps you guessing, you’ll love this one!
Okay, I’m in LOVE with this story! This chapter 6 was just as intense as the last one, but what really stood out to me was the way the tension between Dean and Ada deepened. Dean is possessive, dangerous, and yet so strangely protective of her. The moment when he asked if Stephen really valued her the way she valued him? That hit hard. And then Ada breaking down in his arms?? My heart just melted. The emotional weight of this chapter was incredible. The author does an amazing job balancing action, tension, and raw emotion. I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite reads!
Please reduce the NPCs chat dude...your just using them to fill up the word count and its not funny.Good book thoughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
For me, this novel is my ideal kind of novel, the mc experiences the real definition of a Rebirth. (None of that, I have past life cheats kind of bs)
This story has a lot of potential. Though there are a lot of 'Jargons' — Terms that seem to be common in this world and not elaborated by the author, the story remains a good flow and pacing. The quality is also great, and so is the world building. The abilities they showcase are very intriguing, definitely clutching readers' intrigue and expectations.
Don't ever stop writing! your stories bring so much joy to your readers. Your character development is incredible. I feel like I know them personally.
A very cozy read with some comedy in it but overall it has potential and uniqueness to it, I'm rooting for you to win WSA 2025!
I love the plot and the character. My favourite character is Alpha Darius. Keep writing, author. Kudos
