So Li Er the naked man first appears as this ridiculous subplot — Old Lady Zhang gets caught with a naked man at night and it becomes the gossip of the entire lane. I was laughing so hard at Mrs. Zhang being called 'a lonely kappa' and Wang Lihua having to do all the grocery shopping because of the shame. But then the scene where Li Er ambushes Wang Lihua in the alley completely shifted my stomach. He corners her, grabs her, raises the price from 20 to 50 yuan, and she's trembling and crying. Sister Liu watches from behind a wall and immediately starts writing in her notebook like 'got it documented!' This is no longer comedy — this is a small-time thug using sexual intimidation to extort money from a trapped woman. The power disparity is terrifying and the author doesn't soften it at all. What's chilling is how normalized this world seems to be for these characters. Wang Lihua just accepts it, promises to get the money, and leaves with trembling legs. Meanwhile Han Yue is over here buying washbasins and thermoses and dealing with neighborhood drama like a normal person. The contrast between their situations is brutal. I'm genuinely worried about Wang Lihua now. Will Han Yue find out? Will Sister Liu's gossip network actually help intervene? The stakes just went from 'annoying ex-husband drama' to 'someone is in real danger' and I need to know what happens next.
"Fu Jingyan, is your head filled with nothing but dirty thoughts?" I AM DEAD. This woman has absolutely NO filter and I respect it so much. The dialogue in these chapters is sharp, funny, and reveals character beautifully. Yu Yue's voice is instantly recognizable — direct, slightly sarcastic, unafraid to call people out. Her conversation with Fu Jingyan about cohabitation is a masterclass in verbal self-defense. She doesn't just deny the accusation, she dismantles his entire logic: "Even though it's called a small Western-style house, do you know how many rooms it has? Do you know how many people live there?" Chef's kiss. Li Kui and Lin Lan's banter has a completely different rhythm — looser, funnier, more physical. The sunflower seeds detail, the binoculars, the medical vs livestock comparison. These two feel like actual friends who've known each other forever. Fu Shen's dialogue is notably sparse but weighted. Every word matters. "Yu Yue, this is Fu Shen." — simple, formal, but there's something underneath. And his request about dinner is surprisingly gentle for a man who clearly holds power in this family. Fu Jingyan's lines reveal his insecurity beautifully. He's trying to assert authority but keeps getting shut down. His internal monologue about Yu Yue and her senior brother shows how his mind jumps to conclusions. The narrative voice itself is witty and observant. Lines like "Even in broad daylight, you really shouldn't casually think about someone. Even if it's just in your mind." have this dry, knowing tone that makes me smile. And the humor! Li Kui still believing Su Qingyue is Fu Jingyan's new love interest while Fu Jingyan is clearly still tangled up with his wife? The author lets us in on the joke while the characters remain blissfully unaware.
I need to talk about the airport scene because WOW. The author takes what could have been a boring, generic airport setting and turns it into something so atmospheric and tense. Let me paint this for you — it's a busy airport, right? People everywhere, bodyguards in black suits scanning the area, the hum of announcements and footsteps. But then Cen Zhou pulls Qiao Zhiyang into this secluded corner and suddenly the whole world shrinks down to just the two of them. The sensory details are incredible. The clean, crisp scent of oud that envelops her. The prayer beads on his wrist pressing against her water-blue cheongsam. The way his chest rises and falls against her palm with each breath. The author doesn't just describe what they see — they describe what she FEELS. The vibration of his voice against her ear. The warmth of his body. The contrast between his broad shoulders and her petite frame. And the visual of him shielding her — his tall, imposing figure completely blocking her from the bodyguards' view, only her aqua-blue cheongsam hem visible — that's pure cinema. I could literally see this as a film scene. The tension of almost being discovered mixed with the intimacy of being hidden in someone's arms. What I also love is how the setting reflects their situation. An airport is a place of transit, of people coming and going, of escape and arrival. Qiao Zhiyang is literally running away from one life and into another. The airport becomes this liminal space where her old life and new life collide. And Cen Zhou appears in this space like some kind of fate-made guardian angel... or demon, depending on how you look at it. The contrast between the public, chaotic airport and the private, intimate corner they create together is just *chef's kiss*. It makes every whispered conversation feel stolen, every touch feel dangerous.
The egg noodles in this text are doing SO MUCH work and I'm not even sure the author fully realizes how good it is. You Chumu won't eat the fried egg unless Xu Chi has already taken a bite. This isn't just a quirk — it's a survival mechanism from the lab, a way of testing whether the food is safe by proxy. But it also becomes this twisted form of intimacy, this ritual where Xu Chi has to literally taste first before You Chumu will trust anything. And Xu Chi knows it's an illusion. "No one understood better than him... what kind of madman You Chumu really was. This was all temporary." The noodles represent this fragile domestic normalcy that Xu Chi is desperately trying to build. He cooks them. He adds extra eggs. He makes beef noodles the next day. Each meal is an attempt to create something ordinary between two people who should not be having an ordinary moment. And You Chumu participates in it with this childlike enthusiasm — the way he gets excited about bland, watery noodles is heartbreaking because we know he's never experienced simple pleasure before. Then there's the watching motif. You Chumu watching Xu Chi sleep. Watching him cook. Watching him brush his teeth. Mirroring his movements. This is a person who has never had the luxury of being observed with care — he was observed as a specimen, as data, as an experiment. So when he watches Xu Chi, it's both reverence and predation, and the line between them keeps blurring. The slippers are another symbol I can't stop thinking about. You Chumu has never worn shoes. He's barefoot his entire life, even in below-10-degree weather, because his body doesn't process cold the way normal humans do. The slippers represent everything normal that he's been denied — and the fact that he walks awkwardly in them, like a robot learning to walk, is such a devastating detail.
Writing: The quality of writing is good, consistent and with its own flair. A few hiccups and typos, but nothing that would break the immersion. Overall its pretty decent and feels like it would be polished even more over time.Updates: So far the updates have been consistent and the chapter length does not wary over the updates which is a plus. consistency is good.Story: A bit confusing in the start, especially since we start with the Girl's POV while the summary mentions it to be a MALE MC story, but give it a few chapters for the mystery and plot to settle in. Gets better and intriguingCharacter design: My comments over the various chapters will display how I feel about this. If you can make a reader hate your characters based on their interactions, that means a good job. World Background: This seems almost good, but could be better. Or rather I would say, the way its been put out for the readers needs a little more explanation. But maybe more will be explained as I read further. Overall: A good story so far, definitely worth a read.Score: 4.9
I hope you enjoy and please write me your ideas about the story, I would like to know what improvements I should make, and I would be happy if someone who could create a cover image could write to me?
I love how Craig shows his improvement. From crybaby to leader. This past few chapters I have noticed the changes going on, especially after his Awakeng. Love it!
