Rating: 4.5/5 - Reading this book followed "Gaze at the Scenes of Debauchery" and it was a real mood booster. The main character is fantastic, and the plot is highly satisfying! While I don't condone murder, in the context of infidelity, this story caters to those who have experienced similar pain.
SPOILER ALERT!
Despite initial confusion about Ji Qu's identity, I lean towards the editor being more culpable than the film emperor, based on the available evidence. [Details hidden]
Re-reading might clarify things, but regardless, it's an excellent read. Our protagonist is strong-willed and intelligent, refusing to let others make a fool of him. His revenge, though extreme, was thrilling and fitting given the circumstances, even if it stretched the boundaries of morality (which, humorously, I still care about). I rooted for him throughout.
The main character's detachment during the planning phase was surprising, perhaps triggered by his fear of his husband's intentions. If the husband had been honest from the start, the outcome might've been different, as the MC didn't seem particularly invested in keeping the relationship. He even mentioned being content with solitude, suggesting he knew the marriage wasn't fulfilling.
The ML's family's selfish behavior and his constant deception with his mistress were additional triggers. The MC's descent into a psychopathic mindset felt justified, given the long history of the affair and the lack of remorse from the ML and his circle. The betrayal felt unforgivable, leading to the protagonist's harsh retaliation.
In essence, it's a cautionary tale about not crossing an author, especially when they create such a compelling and satisfying revenge narrative. This book is a gripping, intelligent, and satisfying read, showing the depths of one's response to betrayal – sometimes, a cold-hearted response is exactly what's needed. Highly recommended!
