Let's talk about the symbolism here because this book is doing SO MUCH with food as a metaphor and I am here for it. Fu Yuanzheng's Severe Food Aversion Syndrome isn't just a random illness. It's symbolic of his larger condition—his body rejects everything, just like his life has rejected normalcy. He was a god of war, galloping across battlefields, and now he's confined to a wheelchair, unable to even enjoy a meal without suffering. Food, which should be one of life's simplest pleasures, has become another source of pain. That's devastating on a thematic level. And then Yao Chengcheng appears, and her food is the ONE thing his body doesn't reject. Think about what that means. She's not just a cook—she's someone whose very presence brings relief to someone who has known only suffering. The food becomes a bridge between them, a way of communicating care when words fail. The egg tarts scene is the perfect example of this theme. After hearing that his legs can't be cured, Yao Chengcheng doesn't offer empty words of comfort. She bakes. She makes something sweet. The text literally says: "When the heart is bitter, it's best to eat something sweet." This is the core message of the entire story right there—comfort doesn't always come in grand gestures. Sometimes it comes in a flaky, golden pastry that you bake at 3 AM because someone you care about is having a terrible day. There's also the recurring motif of colors in the meals. Last time it was "a table full of green," this time it was "a table full of red." The Sichuan dishes, the chili oil, the chopped chilies—red is the color of passion, of life, of fire. After the cold devastation of the doctor's news, Yao Chengcheng serves him something vibrant and alive. It's almost like she's trying to cook hope into him. And the System itself—this modern, almost clinical interface that tracks "Satisfaction Points"—is contrasted against the deeply human act of cooking for someone you care about. The system measures quantifiable outcomes, but the real story is about the unquantifiable moments: a prince eating something that doesn't make him sick, a cook noticing when her employer is having a bad day and responding with warmth.
Okay so let me just say this out loud because I need to process it: the seating arrangement at that victory banquet is basically a plot bomb waiting to go off. Prince Zhao's seat is ALMOST on par with the Crown Prince's. ALMOST. And the Eastern Palace folks? Their expressions were grim. Grim! Like, 'we are about to lose everything' grim. The author is setting up this whole political chess game where Prince Zhao's military achievements literally overshadow the Crown Prince, and the Emperor is... what, testing him? Playing both sides? I don't know yet but my brain is already connecting dots. Also the whole backstory about Gu Ningxi being a woman disguised as a man is such a brilliant plot device. It's not just a gimmick — it explains why she's so cautious at court, why she can't just marry and live normally, why she has this whole secret life. And now with Prince Zhao back in the capital, I have a terrible feeling their paths are going to cross in ways that could blow her cover. The plot is tightening, friends. Tightening.

This is absolutely fantastic! I'm blown away by the quality and performance. Everything exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From start to finish, it was seamless and enjoyable.
I have to say that this is not the usual love story. I love werewolves /vampire romance but this is different in a very good way, I really love it ❤️If you are bored of the typical love / fantasy /drama story give this a try! I promise YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! ❤️?
excellent read, your update schedule leaves something to be desired.
Dear Readers,I’m Vrega007, and this is my debut book. While it may seem odd to see a 5-star rating next to my name, I’ve rated it that way because I believe in the potential of my writing. Please understand, I’m not claiming to be the best—far from it. But I do believe that if an author doesn’t love or believe in their own work, how can they expect readers to feel the same? That’s just my perspective. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to provide answers.Thank you for taking the time to read this.Warm regards,Vrega007
This story sucked me in from the first paragraph. I am totally going to binge read it once there is more to it. If I read it now, I'm afraid I'm going to rip my hair out waiting for the next chapter. Love, love, love what I have read :)
From what I’ve read, book seems to have a lot of potential, steady pace and nice background settings. I hope it stays on the good path and I’ll glady read the many chapters to come!
