The dialogue in this novel is sharp as a sword. Lin Lumi's voice is instantly recognizable - she's sarcastic, pragmatic, and unapologetically blunt. When she says 'I'll thank your ancestor!' after Mu Heng asks to be thanked for saving her? That's peak Lin Lumi energy. And her internal monologue about wanting to go home and scroll through her phone with 100 million in the bank? So modern, so relatable, so funny. Mu Heng's dialogue is equally distinctive - he's arrogant, playful, but with this underlying intensity that makes every line feel loaded with meaning. 'Since that's the case, wouldn't it be too heartless of me to refuse?' - he's teasing her but there's something genuine underneath. The love letter itself is a masterpiece of dialogue within dialogue. 'Spring catkins fly and fill the courtyard; my heart yearns for you, but you remain unaware.' Written to disgust him, read as genuine confession. The contrast between her intent and his interpretation creates this hilarious and dramatic tension. Chuntao's reactions are also great - she's the perfect straight man, going from confused to horrified to understanding in real time. And the Marquis's dialogue when he confronts Lin Lumi at the door? 'You wretch! You still have the nerve to ask!' - classic angry father energy. The author gives every character a distinct voice and the conversations flow naturally while advancing the plot.
I need a minute. Just a damn minute. Because I am absolutely shattered after reading these chapters, and I don't even know where to start. Let me just say this upfront: the Nanny Zhang scene destroyed me. Not because it was dramatic—though it was—but because of how Qin Shu reacted. She heard her own father sell her like livestock, heard him say those words "She's the eldest sister. It's only right that she shoulders the burden for the family!" And what does she do? She doesn't scream. She doesn't collapse. She just... stands there. Deathly pale. Silent. And then—this is the part that got me—the medicine packet slips from her hand. That tiny, almost imperceptible moment where her composure cracks. Just for a second. And then she picks up the dirty powder and rubs it between her fingers like she's grounding herself, like she's deciding right then and there that something inside her has finally ignited. "Within them, icy whirlpools capable of swallowing everything churned endlessly." That line. That single line. I read it three times. Because that's not grief anymore. That's something else. That's the moment a victim becomes something terrifying. And then Qin Yan shows up. Of course she shows up. In her ridiculous fox fur and purple sable, parading around like she owns the place. And the way she deliberately knocks over that boiling medicine—"There's no need," Qin Shu says, and that's it. That's all she says. Her voice is dry, hoarse, empty. And then she watches her maid get slapped for trying to defend her. And she picks up the broken bowl with her good hand while her burned hand blisters. I want to shake her. I want to tell her to fight back. But then I remember where she is. This living tomb. This prison. And I understand why she doesn't. Not yet. What kills me most is that there's no romance here yet—no warm hand to hold, no one to witness her pain—but the emotional devastation is so complete that I find myself aching for her anyway. The family bond that should have been her anchor became the rope that tied her to this place. And now that rope is cut. Now she has nothing left to lose. Which is both the most heartbreaking and the most terrifying thing I've read all year.
There are so many layers of masking and disguise in this passage that I can't stop thinking about them. First there's the literal mask: Shi Ruyi wearing that yellow dress she's never worn before, deliberately making herself look worse, trying to present a false version of herself to Wen Youan. But the irony is that her 'ugly' choice actually makes her look 'much more lively' according to Guyu. So her attempt at self-sabotage backfires. She can't even successfully hide who she is. Then there's the mask of the lie Wen Qing tells. She pretends Shi Ruyi will visit when she never promised that. But the deeper mask is her entire persona at court—always composed, always the loyal general, never showing her true fears about her son's future. The name symbolism is gorgeous though. 'You'an' means peaceful/safe. Her entire hope for her son is encoded in his name from birth. 'I hope I can bless you with a peaceful life. Your father and I will be satisfied.' But the cruel irony is that by being involved with someone like the Crown Princess, he's moving AWAY from that peaceful life. His name is a prayer that his choices are actively undermining. And the color yellow—usually a color of royalty, of the Emperor—worn by both Shi Ruyi and Wen Youan without either fully understanding what it means. Shi Ruyi wears it to appear unappealing; Wen Youan wears it because he subconsciously wants to be matched with her. The color becomes a bridge between them that neither can see. The text also keeps returning to eyes and sight: Shi Ruyi can't see her mother's guards, Wen Youan's eyes 'light up,' Wen Qing's 'dark circles,' the way characters look at each other or avoid looking. Sight and blindness as metaphors for understanding and ignorance runs through the whole passage.
**********************Off to a great start! Good pacing and is easy enough to follow. Can't wait to see what happens next. *****************

A great novel, with well-executed dialogues. The description is decent but could use some development. Overall, the novel is excellent.
could get you addicted in the first few chapters. nice work
Whoa! this story has got me hypnotized in the first chapter. This is what I've been looking for. Thanks Yama-2
The attention to detail is unmatched, and the level of grammar is truly exceptional. It’s clear that a tremendous amount of care, expertise, and passion go into every part of this story.
Wow, this novel had me hooked from the very first chapter. The tension between Ava and Adrian is off the charts, and I love how their interactions feel so raw and real. The forced proximity, the contract marriage, the power struggles it’s everything I love in a romance novel, The writing flows so naturally, making it impossible to stop reading. If you're into dominant CEOs and strong female leads, this is a must read.
wow, it's a very refreshing book with an interesting story , I can't wait to read more. It's definitely a must-read. ?❤️
Shameless author here, giving my book a five-star rating. This is my first book, so there are going to be a lot of mistakes. I will make sure to learn from them and try to improve as the chapters continue. Btw, thanks for supporting my work, dear sect members!I really appreciate every review, collection, and comment.Zain, the MC of the story, is an apathetic character who hates himself. Not only that, but the world hates him too. Once, he always wanted to die but couldn't because he had many responsibilities. However, when he was finally free and about to die, he learned something that reignited his will to live and take revenge for everything. But this time, the world is trying to kill him.So, this is not the story of a protagonist but of a coward who just wanted to live for revenge...He is inspired by Guts and my first fiction main character, so yeah, there will be a lot of action and brutal fights. Thanks for everything, and congratulations on joining the "Fallen Sect."[ Failing Is A Blessing ]
