The stakes in this story are layered like an onion and I am here for it. On the surface, Liu Xiyin's stake is survival. In the original novel, she's "cannon fodder who was eventually minced into meat filling by the male lead to feed the fish." That's not a metaphor. She knows this. She's read the book. And now she's married to the man who's supposed to kill her. The existential dread is palpable. But then there's the spy angle — and this is where it gets genuinely tense. She has a roll of film on her person in a restricted military area. In any era, that's arrest-worthy. Yan Changye suspects she might be a foreign spy. He searches her, he interrogates her, he takes the film to develop before dawn. The threat is real and immediate. What makes the stakes so compelling is that they're constantly escalating and shifting. Just when you think it's about her secret identity, it's about the Second Young Master's assassination attempt. Just when you think it's political intrigue, it's about whether he'll believe her about the film. Just when you think she's safe for the night, he threatens to make her never bathe again. And Yan Changye's own stakes! He barely escaped death himself — ambushed on the road, returning late to his own wedding. His family is divided, his father favors another son, his authority is contested. He brought Liu Xiyin back partly as a wife, partly as a subject of investigation. He's playing a dangerous game on multiple fronts. The scene where he reads the confession that the Second Young Master orchestrated the ambush, but decides to keep it secret because "we can't move against him for now" — that's a masterclass in rising stakes. He's restraining himself, biding his time, and the reader knows this conflict is far from over. Every chapter ends on a note that makes you want to immediately read the next one. The tension doesn't drop. It coils tighter.
"Whether he slept with me or not is none of your business," He Zheng said, pulling out a cigarette. "But tonight, I'll sleep with your dad." I screamed when I read this. He Zheng's mouth is unreal. But what struck me more was what happened AFTER that moment of bravado. The Top Supporter actually showed up. Not just with gifts, but with action. This relationship has been building so quietly - the late-night calls, the dice games, the awkward fights - and now it's crystallizing into something real. The Top Supporter isn't some cold billionaire fantasy; he's a 23-year-old who gets cranky when he can't sleep, who dreams about He Zheng getting into fights, who gets nervous enough to smoke on his birthday. And He Zheng? He's this guy who's been treated like a tool for eight years, and here's someone who looks at him and says "no one's allowed to bully you." The birthday scene at the end - the simple cake, the dark balcony, that incredibly beautiful hand appearing on screen - it's so intimate and so vulnerable. He Zheng checking the mirror before answering the video call? That detail got me. He cares about how he looks for this person. The Top Supporter can't show his face but he shows his hand. That's him being vulnerable in his own way. Their dynamic is everything.

I just devoured this book and I'm still reeling from the experience! The chemistry between Kane and King is undeniable, and their complex, twisted dynamic had me hooked from start to finish. The writing is witty, insightful, and utterly captivating - I couldn't get enough of these characters and their forbidden, slow-burn romance!
Being an author on WN is too Challenging. You can never get rid of your shamelessness and here, right now here's my review for my own book. I've worked tirelessly to craft a compelling story with a smooth pace, advanced vocabulary, and minimal grammatical errors, despite English not being my native language, and I'm grateful for your continued support. Also continue supporting me, your support is my courage.:}
Very unconventional and intriguing. Most stories have characters reincarnated to better places but he got an even worse place than where he died. The plot is amazing and very futuristic
So I’ve read just up to 6-7 chap and it has an exciting premise with strong worldbuilding and thought-provoking themes. I believe with further refinement in pacing and character depth, it has the potential to be a gripping dystopian sci-fi thriller.?❤️
this book is a hidden gem. Can't wait to enjoy it with the author
