"His hand trembled so badly that medicinal powder spilled all over the floor." — I need to talk about this moment because it is EVERYTHING. This is the first time we really SEE Qin Xiao's composure crack, and it's because of Qinghe. Think about it: this is a man who hunts for a living, who has killed on the battlefield, who stands like an iron tower. And yet when it comes time to apply medicine to her back, his hands are shaking. Why? Because he's nervous. Because he's feeling something he hasn't felt before. And Qinghe? She's biting her lip until it's marked with teeth. She's trying so hard to appear tough, to prove she's not fragile, but her body language tells a completely different story. The way they look at each other—"Their eyes met. At that instant, it felt as though sparks flashed between them"—this isn't just attraction, this is two people who have both been wounded and are tentatively reaching for each other. What makes their relationship so compelling is that it's built on small moments of care. He notices her hands are peeling and tells her to stop working. She notices he hasn't eaten properly and cooks for him. They're learning each other in the most domestic, intimate way possible. And then Qin Yue arrives, and suddenly we see how protective Qin Xiao is—how he physically blocks his brother's view of her. That's not just possessiveness; that's the moment he realizes she matters to him.
The atmosphere in this section is absolutely thick enough to cut with a knife. Let me start with the kitchen scene — it's early morning, before dawn, and the cook is diluting soup with half a pot of water because they literally have no money. The image of Old Mrs. Wu taking one spoonful and her face darkening is so vivid. You can feel her disgust, her panic, her desperate need to maintain appearances even as the foundation crumbles. But the scene that absolutely got me is the birthday banquet itself. The author describes it like a film sequence: "Servants hurried through the courtyards carrying tables and chairs. Footsteps, urgent calls, and the clatter of pots and pans filled the estate, making even the morning light seem flustered. Smoke from the kitchen wafted into the courtyards with the wind, mingling with the scent of wine, the smell of meat, and the damp, chilly morning mist." This is cinematic. I could SEE this. The chaos, the desperation masked as busyness, the sensory overload. And then the reveal: they cut two dishes, downgraded the wine, and dug out an old screen from the storeroom — worn edges but grand from a distance. The metaphor is so on the nose it's almost painful. The entire marquisate is this screen: looks impressive from far away, but up close you can see every flaw. Then there's the contrast between the front courtyard and the side courtyard. In the front, they're "tearing their hair out over money." In the side courtyard, Jiang Xiu is sitting calmly with her lamp lit, reviewing the guest list, watching the moonlight grow thicker. The visual of her in pale moon-white dress with a single jade hairpin, holding Fu Fu, while everyone else is in chaos — it's such a striking image. She's the eye of the storm. And that final image of the screen depicting the frontier — distant mountains, lone city, battle flags, galloping horses — positioned in the flower hall while the Wu family pretends everything is fine? That's not just set dressing. That's the author telling us the real story is about to begin. The frontier is calling, and Wu Ling's prophecy about it is about to collide with reality.
Let me just say this — the weather forecast scene is one of the most chilling moments I've read in a rebirth novel. Cen Yuxing is fiddling with the radio, probably hoping for music, and instead gets: 'From tonight through tomorrow morning, dense fog will appear throughout the Base and surrounding areas. Visibility is expected to fall below fifty meters.' Casual. Boring even. And then Cen Wu's entire worldview collapses because she REMEMBERS. The fog isn't just fog — it contains radioactive mold spores that can burn your lungs irreversibly. Fifty meters of visibility sounds bad but the text makes it clear this is the EASY version. After this comes the Year of Extreme Heat where 'cooking a low-temperature steak only required placing it in fifty-five-degree water for twenty-four hours. Humans were, ultimately, just raw meat.' I literally shivered reading that. The author doesn't even need to describe gore or death — just comparing humans to steak is somehow worse than any visceral description. And then the hunting scene! The mutated forest where 'even a random blade of grass was taller than Cen Wu' and insects 'larger than a truck tire.' It's like stepping into a nightmare version of nature. The thermal detector beeping, the wild deer standing nearly two meters tall with antlers 'like coral,' and those jackals that move with terrifying coordination — every scene builds this world that feels alive, dangerous, and utterly indifferent to human life. The base itself with its numbered designation (Base No. 9, Base No. 18) gives it this sterile, militaristic feel that contrasts beautifully with the wild chaos outside. I can SEE this world. I can feel the humidity, the heat, the danger lurking behind every tree.
I spend this week reading this book. Is good, some times a little cliche (Like a telenovela ?) but is well writted and in this kind of stories, what it matters is the character and plot developting and this one is doing a great work, keep some kissus at hand, there's a lot of crying, frustation, anger and funny moments... spicy scenes too. ?Author you got a fan in México.? sorry for any grammar mistakes
The name is funny even the synopsis is funny ?I hope the rest of the story is funny as well.
Set against the backdrop of Shawn's entry into Sunzen University. The chapter masterfully weaves together themes of philosophy, technology, and spirituality, creating a rich narrative that challenges readers to reflect on the role of soul culture in an increasingly AI-driven world. The vivid descriptions of the university's architecture and its symbolic landmarks, such as the Ninety-Five Steps and Huize Hall, immerse the reader in a setting that feels both timeless and futuristic. The tension between Shawn's commitment to soul philosophy and Donner and Jolie's embrace of AI-driven ideologies adds depth to the story, highlighting the broader societal debate about the future of human values. The chapter's ending, with the mysterious note hinting at hidden agendas, leaves readers eager to uncover the secrets lurking within Sunzen University. Overall, this chapter is a thought-provoking and beautifully crafted piece that sets the stage for deeper philosophical and personal conflicts to come.
