I've been turning over some of the deeper patterns in these chapters and I think the author is playing with water as a recurring symbol in really interesting ways. First there's the lake—cold, deep, dangerous. It's where Jiang Yihuan proves her heroism but also pays for it physically. She saves people who don't deserve it and nearly drowns for the privilege. Then there's the rain, which acts as both a barrier and a connector. It's during the rain that Jiang Yihuan reveals the truth about Wei Zhao's family, and it's also during the rain that Wei Zhao makes his decision to protect his mother. Water as truth-teller, almost. But the most powerful symbol in this batch might be silence. Wei Zhao's mother endures her mother-in-law's bullying in silence. She tells Wei Zhao everything is fine when it isn't. Jiang Yihuan notices this pattern and calls it out, but even she can't fully break through the silence that Wei Zhilan has built around herself. The shopkeeper's silence about Jiang Yihuan's authority until it's almost too late is another variation. And Old Madam Wei's scolding—her noise is almost a defense mechanism, a way of filling the space so nothing painful has to be said. The Crown Prince subplot adds another layer to this theme of silence. Sun Junchen and his wife faked their deaths. They stayed silent about their survival. The child they took is living in silence, unknown to the world. The Emperor can't sleep because of what he doesn't know. Silence as survival, silence as oppression, silence as love. Wei Zhao's mother stays silent to protect her son. Jiang Yihuan stays silent about how much she cares until she can't anymore. There's a scene where Wei Zhao stands outside his mother's door and just listens, and he chooses not to announce himself. That moment of choosing silence instead of confrontation is so rich with meaning.
Let me think about what this chapter is really saying beneath the surface. The ancestral hall - that sacred space where the Song clan's ancestors rest - is destroyed. And who destroys it? Not an outsider. Not a rival family. It's Madam Song, the matriarch of the clan itself, who orchestrates the fire to frame her own daughter-in-law. This feels like such a deliberate symbolic choice. The ancestral hall represents the clan's unity, its traditions, its moral authority. And it's being burned down from the inside by the very people who are supposed to protect it. The Song clan claims to be a respectable family, but they're out here committing atrocities against women - framing Jiang Zhaoying, trying to force her to pay for rebuilding, attempting to kill her through Song Chengyu's slow torture fantasy. Meanwhile, Jiang Zhaoying stands there with her medicinal-stained clothes, having been punished for a crime she didn't commit, and she's the most morally upright person in the room. There's also the symbolism of the fire itself. Fire is purification, but also destruction. The Song clan's version of 'filial piety' - making a newlywed daughter-in-law fund the reconstruction - is actually deeply unfilial. They're using tradition as a weapon. And Shen Yuefu's false purity? The Chastity Sand detail is such a powerful symbol of how women's bodies and reputations are policed in this world. She claims to be 'pure and unsullied' but clearly she's not. The whole system is built on lies and the author is tearing it down piece by piece.
The rain in this novel is not just weather - it's a character. Everything happens in the rain. The breakup scene, the confrontation, the walk to class - it's all drenched. And that umbrella moment! Huo Linyuan holding the umbrella over Jiang Youwan while his own shoulder gets soaked. Classic but effective. The Xiangwan Building reveal was such a brilliant touch - Huo Jinchen grumbling about why his uncle would help an 'outsider' and then Mu Jia'en pointing out that the building was donated by 'Mr. Huo' and connecting it to Jiang Youwan's name. The architecture itself becomes a symbol of protection and legacy. I love how the campus setting feels lived-in - the bluestone path, the towering teaching building with gilded characters washed by heavy rain, students gathering and taking photos. The contrast between the cold rain and the warmth of Huo Linyuan's presence is striking. His expensive dark suit getting soaked, the woody coldness scent that surrounds him - these sensory details make the scene pop. The moment when a car speeds by and he pulls her into his embrace to shield her from splashing water, then calmly asks 'are Wanwan and I really the kind of relationship they're talking about?' while facing all those phones - that's cinematic. The visual of them standing together, so compatible and dazzling, drawing stares from everyone - it's like the whole world becomes their backdrop. And the ending with him guiding her to walk on the inner side of the sidewalk, subtly protective - these small details build a world that feels real and immersive.
Yey!! Finally uploaded again! I actually had trouble opening it at first, but of course, we always find a way — as always, ahaha! This book is incredibly well-written and well-crafted. The story is fun, intriguing, and keeps you hooked. Definitely worth reading! Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐More chapters, please!
Gave 5 stars because im not gay. I haven’t started to read because seeing that it has about 50+ chapters only and book hasn’t been updated for weeks, I don’t think I should read it. Anyway, if auther continues to update the story and the book has over 150+ chapters, I will read it.
Peak read... NGL, the story is good and the update is stable 5/5 read ??
The story is interesting. Unlike other stories that I've read, the author doesn't seem to delve into introducing the different elements like you'd normally expect. Instead, they just throw you into the story, lost, confused, and questioning your life decisions. From what I can gather, this world is similar yet quite different from ours, with some dead serious supernatural and psychological incidents occurring. There aren't any superpowers or superheroes. Everyone focuses on training their physical bodies and learning methods to keep their minds sane ? Everything and everyone must be in the light: living, bathing, and breathing in the light. Darkness and sharp corners are a big no no, so round or curved designs were adapted.I picked this up for the horror and thriller elements, and it didn't disappoint ? You might like it or might hate it, but you won't know unless you taste test the story yourself. Oh and MTL shenanigans such as misgendering is frequent, with very little renaming. Good luck ?
absolutely mind-blowing and captivating novel, Author?
