I have read this passage five times. Five times. And each time I get hit with this wave of nostalgia and longing so strong it's almost physical. Not because anything dramatic happens — because nothing dramatic happens. That's the whole point. This is what actual crushes feel like. They're not movie moments with swelling orchestras and dramatic confessions. They're a girl sitting on her floor in her underwear, singing a song she doesn't fully understand why she chose, then posting a recipe with a caption that's basically a love letter disguised as food porn. 'If you want to eat it, I'll make it for you. Then I'll pour you a glass of milk… and watch you finish it slowly.' I am not okay. I am genuinely not okay. This is the most specific, intimate, domestic fantasy I have ever read in a novel and it's wrapped in three sentences about lemon ribs. The author understands something that a lot of romance writers miss: the most powerful emotional moments aren't the big ones. They're the quiet ones. The moment Shu Jia's palms are sweating because she recognizes an enemy ID. The way she 'forced her expression to remain neutral' when her cousin caught her watching the match. The notification that appears 'in the bottom-right corner' — so small, so ordinary, and it completely rearranges her entire emotional landscape. And then there's the physical description of Zhou Dang that kills me every time. 'His slender, well-defined fingers were pale, the knuckles clean and elegant.' 'The dark circles under his eyes looked heavy, his lips pale.' The author gives us this glimpse of the human behind the pro player — exhausted, overworked, beautiful in a way that makes people want to take care of him — and Shu Jia's 'chest tightened with an odd pang of sympathy.' That's the emotional core of this whole thing. It's not just attraction. It's this sudden, fierce desire to protect someone you've barely spoken to. It's the paradox of feeling deeply for someone who doesn't know you exist. The singing scene at the beginning is also devastating in its own way. She's performing for hundreds of people, and she picks a song about obsession and confusion, and when the chat asks why she's singing with so much emotion, she says 'Maybe it's because I've recently met someone I like.' Then she immediately takes it back — 'the kind of like you have for a fan' — but we all know that's a lie she's telling herself. I'm emotionally compromised. I need a minute.
I need to talk about Yinxing because this girl is something else. On the surface, she's the poster child for "nothing going on here." Emaciated, broke, classified as trash, living in a half-collapsed building. But the moment you actually look at how she behaves, she's fascinating. She says thank you to the Bearded Man even though he was basically just doing his job and his subordinate was straight-up mean to her. She smiles at the community worker despite being told she can't afford anything. She talks to plants like they're little friends. This isn't naive optimism—this is someone who has nothing and refuses to let the world make her bitter. And that's what makes her power so thematically perfect. She doesn't dominate the forest; she befriends it. "Little Morning Glory, guard our home well~" She asks permission. She says please and thank you. The plants respond to her kindness, not her strength. That's character work right there—the author is telling us who Yinxing is through how she interacts with the world, not through exposition. Then there's the limping man. Just one scene with him and I already hate him. "Another one coming out to court death." "Fools, you're all a bunch of fools." He's the cynical foil to Yinxing's quiet resilience, and I can already tell their paths are going to cross again. He represents what happens when the system breaks someone—bitter, loud, convinced everyone around him is stupid for trying. Yinxing just... walks past him. Doesn't engage. Doesn't prove him wrong. That's the kind of character contrast that's going to pay off massively later. The Bearded Man is also interesting in a small way. He's tough on the outside but clearly has a soft spot—he warns her about forced labor assignments, he lingers to give her advice even though his teammate is rushing him. He's not a hero, just a guy trying to stay human in an inhuman system. And Yinxing sees that. "You're a good person. I still want to thank you." She has this uncanny ability to read people, to see the good even when it's buried under layers of gruffness. That's going to be her superpower in more ways than one.

Five star fantasy romance that's very well written. Steady world-building. Love the interactions between the princess and the king and am looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops as the story progresses.

I love it! Another wonderful book for our author! I really love how manly Ruediger is and how he is standing up for Lariette. I feel sorry for Lariette that she has to experience this from her own blood but I am sure, author Hansora will not disappoint us! Goodluck with your book!
This is too cuteeee! The updates are daily so I always have something to look foreward at the end of the day, the plot is intriguing and dont get me started on how i cried during some scenes (from laughing and crying). The character designs are unique in their own way too. We have the classic obssessed Duke and an adorable weirdo. The quality of writing could improve in some aspects but otherwise its a rly nice read!
