Okay so this opening chapter hits different. We start with what I assume is a nightmare—Jing Yuanxi watching her fiancé Han Shixu choose some random girl over her during a kidnapping, even getting her face slashed. Then she wakes up and it's all just a dream, right? Or is it? Because here's the thing that's been bugging me—the dream feels too specific, too detailed. Like the author is setting up some kind of premonition or alternate timeline situation. And then immediately after she dismisses it as absurd, Han Shixu leaves Zhongdu without telling her. Coincidence? Maybe. But the way the narrative threads these together is making me suspicious of everything. Also, the subplot with Han Shixu's father's scandal and his mother threatening divorce is already weaving in. The author is layering multiple storylines—Yuanxi's dream, the kidnapping rescue, the family drama—and I'm here for it. The plot isn't just following a linear path; it's setting up a whole web of interconnected conflicts. Han Shixu's behavior is already raising red flags. He's leaving without telling his fiancée, he's clearly stressed about family stuff, and there's this whole undercurrent of something darker brewing. The plot feels like it's building toward some kind of explosion, and I can't tell if Yuanxi is going to be the one who causes it or the one caught in the blast radius.
The stakes in this opening arc are deceptively simple on the surface—will these two people figure out their feelings?—but the underlying conflicts are what make this genuinely gripping. On the external level, Tao Wanxing is trapped between her public role as the Governor's wife and her private identity as a nobody who works in an emergency room. Every interaction with Meng Chu is a minefield. If she gets too close, she risks humiliation. If she stays distant, she risks losing him completely. But the REAL conflict is internal, and it's devastating. Tao Wanxing knows this marriage is one-sided. She knows he barely acknowledges her existence. And yet she can't let go. The allergic reaction scene is where the stakes become visceral—she's physically vulnerable, lying in a bathtub, and he's the only one who can help her. He does help her, and that creates this impossible bind: every time he shows even a flicker of care, it makes the coldness hurt more. What is she gambling here? Her heart, her dignity, her entire future. And Meng Chu—what is HE gambling? Because something tells me this man isn't as indifferent as he pretends to be. The strawberry bear slippers. The fact that he knows she's allergic to fish. The way he watches her sleep. Someone is paying attention, and that someone might be the most dangerous person in the room.

thanks to the author for writing an excellent work. i love the novel,Lily is a kind, intelligent and brave girl.I can see my own shadow in her. At all times, I want to be a little nicer to others, but as a result, I am taken advantage of. we must have one's own opinions.

Good writing: characters written with their own personality, plot keeps readers engaged Troph feels a little cliché
This novel takes an interesting start and quickly plunges the MC into a new world where he has so much to learn. The MC is strong, funny, and smug, which makes him a joy to read. One note of improvement would be the overall writing quality. The writing is good, however, it can be polished so that it reads perfectly.
