I need to talk about the kitchen fire scene because the visual writing here is INSANE. Cheng Xi trying to cook porridge for the first time in her life—crumpling newspaper, striking matches, the flame catching and then going out, catching again and burning her fingers. It's so specific and so vulnerable. She's a woman who's never touched a stove in her life, and the author makes you feel every awkward movement. And then the fire spreads. The rag catches fire. Smoke billowing. Her tears mixing with soot on her face. She runs outside clutching that matchbox like a weapon she doesn't know how to use. The image of her standing in the doorway—"face streaked with black soot, hair dusted with paper ash, eyes red"—the author calls her a "little calico cat fished out of a stove" and I literally laughed out loud. It's devastating and hilarious at the same time. But the worldbuilding shines brightest in the contrast. This is a military compound in what feels like 1970s China—dry latrines, honeycomb briquettes, brick stoves, military bugles at dawn, soldiers on patrol. Cheng Xi's entire existence is foreign to her. The electric rice cookers, the induction stoves, the auntie who cooked at the Cheng family home—all gone. She's holding a bag of rice like it's treasure and has no idea how to turn it into food. The courtyard itself becomes a character. The latrine with its bamboo ventilation pipe and clay pot of wood ash, the drainage ditch, the lime lining—these aren't just set dressing. They're proof that someone thought about this space carefully. And Qin An reinforcing it with bricks, the cement dust on his hands, the short-sleeved T-shirt clinging to him in the morning light... every detail grounds us in a world that feels lived-in and real.
author can you please make more continuous novels not like those last two novels which had so many realms it was hard to remember and the value of each realm was diminished I hope this one isn't like those

Just finished reading the 63 chapters and I'll be waiting for the new chapter releases. I'm hooked on the FL's relationship with the 3 ML's. Kicks off around Ch 10. She's so cute and she's driving these boys crazy. I'm voting for the Prince. They would be sizzling together!!! Hope it gets picked up - need more chapters now pls author!!!
