The scene in the imperial court is SO vividly rendered. I could practically feel the temperature dropping as Emperor You'an's anger builds. The author doesn't just tell us the emperor is angry — we see it through his physical reactions: 'tilted his head slightly, narrowing his eyes,' then 'face turned completely cold,' then 'pinched the bridge of his nose.' Each escalation feels earned and specific. And then there's Murong Xuan's entrance. 'A slender figure walked in... wore a jade crown, his hair neatly tied, and was dressed in a black robe woven with gold, embroidered with a vivid five-clawed golden dragon on the chest.' The visual contrast between his pale, frail appearance and the imposing imperial dragon robes is striking. He looks like a ghost wearing power. The court setting itself feels alive — the censors stepping forward, the ministers exchanging glances, the eunuch immediately moving a chair. Every detail of court protocol and hierarchy is woven into the scene naturally. The atmosphere shifts from chaotic uproar to tense silence to the emperor's barely contained rage, and it's all conveyed through action and dialogue rather than exposition. One scene that stays with me: the moment when Shen Xiyue deliberately pauses before saying 'consuming the household,' glancing at the Emperor. The way the text describes Prince Yao's reaction — 'slightly nervous, no longer the detached and indifferent observer' — tells us so much about the political landscape without a single word of explanation.
Okay so let me just say — Liu Cuicui is already making me want to throw things. This girl gets REBORN with knowledge of the future and what does she do? She tries to steal someone's fiancé because she read the script wrong. Like girl, the plot changed. Qiao Yu showed up. Move on. But here's what's actually interesting about her: she's not just a cartoon villain. Her motivation makes sense if you think about it. In her past life she trusted the wrong man, followed him off the island, got deceived and died on the streets. Now she's got a second chance and Gu Shaoyuan represents security — a regiment-level cadre who stayed unmarried his whole life. She's not just being petty, she's being desperate. That's way more compelling than a standard jealous rival. Then there's Gu Ling, the biological sister who immediately assumes Qiao Yu is some spoiled Shanghai lady who doesn't belong. Her first reaction is straight-up hostile: "Our family doesn't want you!" But Qiao Yu shuts her down in two sentences — she's not Qiao Xiang, she's already cut ties with that family, and she didn't drag anyone into this marriage. That was satisfying to read. Gu Ling's prejudice gets dismantled in like thirty seconds. And Gu Shaoyuan? He's barely said five words but the author keeps showing us his reactions through other people's eyes. His mother thinks Qiao Yu is the perfect daughter-in-law. His subordinates are gossiping about whether he's finally settling down. His father recognizes her from childhood. Everyone around him is forming opinions, and he's just... quietly observing. That restraint is doing a lot of work.
I need to pause everything and just talk about Fang Yin for a second because this kid is EVERYWHERE in this chapter and I am obsessed with how the author handles him without even showing him. Cheng Zi'an keeps looking back at the teachers' dormitory. "Thinking of Fang Yin's weak and helpless appearance when they left, his heart ached slightly." He's worried about Fang Yin being bullied, about Fang Yin walking home alone in the dark, about what might happen to him on the mountain path. And Cheng Zhen — his father, the strict Juren, the man who just spanked him — heard ALL of this and said NOTHING about Fang Yin. Not one word. That silence is SO loud. Cheng Zhen heard about a bullied child, heard about Fang Yin being kept by the teacher in the dark, and he just... didn't react. He broke off a crabapple branch instead. What does that mean? Is he disappointed that Cheng Zi'an got involved? Is he angry about the mischief? Or is he processing something himself about the boy he watched but didn't help? And then there's Cui Suniang — the moment she hears "Was Fang Yin bullied?" her reaction is immediate concern. She's the emotional compass of this family, the one who feels things deeply and openly. Meanwhile Cheng Zhen is all controlled gestures: picking flowers for his wife, sending someone for hot water, nearly laughing at his son's ridiculous pose on the floor. The family's love language is completely different for each person, and that's what makes these scenes hit so hard. Cheng Zi'an clings to his mother because she's warmth. He fears his father because he's discipline. But he also tests his father because somewhere underneath, he knows there's something more going on — something about justice, about the weak, about the boy named Fang Yin who nobody seems willing to help.
Okay so let me just... I need a moment. That scene where Jiang Youwan slaps Huo Jinchen? I literally sat up in bed. Like, she didn't even hesitate. No dramatic crying, no begging for explanation - just *slap* and 'let's break up.' That's the kind of female lead I can get behind. She saw right through him when he brought up those rumors about her past in front of everyone. The way he said 'weren't you already slept with by someone else?' like it was nothing - like her scars were just gossip to him. I was so mad I could've screamed. But then Huo Linyuan steps in and the energy shifts completely. This man who's clearly powerful and intimidating - he doesn't even raise his voice when he tells Huo Jinchen to kneel in the ancestral hall. The contrast between how Huo Jinchen treated Jiang Youwan and how Huo Linyuan protects her is... wow. And that line 'I will protect Wanwan and not let anyone hurt you' - I'm not crying, you're crying. The way he gets jealous but tries to hide it by badmouthing his own nephew is actually kind of funny in a twisted way. He's basically saying 'he's trash, you deserve better' without directly saying it. And Jiang Youwan just... listens? Like she's genuinely curious about Huo Jinchen's dirt instead of being hurt? That shows how much she's already moved on. Their dynamic is so interesting - she keeps creating distance because she feels unworthy, and he keeps closing it because he refuses to let her run. The tension is delicious.
You've built the world in the story quite well. I don't know how the upcoming content will be, but Jonas' world-building is pretty solid. However, I think if you do the same for the remaining 24 characters, it might take quite a bit of time. There are a few holes, but they’re not significant. Respect for the effort you’ve put into your story.
GOOD NOVEL SHEER UP FELLOW DAOIST!!!
The book definitely has great potential and I'm coming back to read too, great story development ! I hope to see more of your book and how it all unfolds
Hello there, dear reader. The author here with the first review—and a shameless one at that. I want to clarify a few things about the story.Although the story is categorized as R18 and will contain plenty of scenes of that nature, the focus will primarily be on the plot.Additionally, there will be no harem. I know, that might be disappointing, but as I said, the story comes first. That said, I won’t hold back on R18 scenes if that’s a concern. The first arc will feel somewhat like a cozy fantasy—but not entirely. You’ll see!The second arc will be an epic fantasy. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to write what I’ve planned. I can only hope to bring my imagination to life with the best words possible.I won’t say more to avoid spoilers, but know that I will write this story to its very end—first for my own satisfaction, and then for my dear readers. This is Loreem for you.Thank you, dear readers.
