I've been thinking about the imagery in this section and there's so much going on beneath the surface. The wedding banquet is the central symbol. Bright red silk, golden lantern tassels, tables still holding leftover food — all of it represents a celebration that is also a prison. Zhou Yan is married in a bright red wedding robe, and then he's hung up in that same robe, bleeding. The color red means joy and prosperity in Chinese culture, but here it becomes the color of violence and entrapment. The author is subverting every symbol of celebration into something grotesque. The dragon-and-phoenix candles on the altar are another layer. These represent the union of yin and yang, the harmony of husband and wife. But they're placed in a room where a man is being tortured. The sacred becomes profane, the blessed becomes cursed. Yan Yu casually grabs melon seeds from the white jade plates while looking at the hanging man — she's consuming the symbols of marriage while destroying the marriage itself. Then there's the clinic plaque: 'Healing the World with Dedication.' Three years of reputation built on genuine skill, and Shen Miao threatens to destroy it with a forged prescription. The plaque represents truth and expertise, while the forgery represents the hollow performance of competence. Shen Wan's medical skill is real — she diagnoses the man's spinal condition and treats him with acupuncture in minutes — but the world keeps trying to pass off fake versions as legitimate. This is about who gets to be believed, who gets to be heard. The gold ingot Shen Wan pockets after fighting Shen Miao is another symbol. It's her leverage, her insurance, her proof that she's not powerless. Even in a situation where she's being systematically stripped of agency, she finds ways to accumulate power — money, information, alliances. The ingot becomes a talisman against complete helplessness. And the sealed windows, the heavy curtains, the Governor's residence isolating Shen Wan from the outside world — these are symbols of imprisonment that go beyond the physical. She's trapped by family loyalty, by social expectation, by a man who claims to love her but only knows how to possess. The author is building a world where women have very few exits, and every door Shen Wan finds is either locked or leads somewhere worse.
I need to talk about the bar scene because the author absolutely cooked here. You have Xi Yu—who detests these places, who just wants to be alone—showing up in a black shirt buttoned to the top, creases sharp, looking completely out of place in this world of smoke and alcohol and perfume. And then he looks up and sees her. The way the scene is written is so cinematic. Warm yellow light, her white knit sweater, hair cascading over her shoulders, the bespectacled man leaning in too close. I could literally see this as a film. The author doesn't over-describe the bar itself—just enough to ground us: members-only, Lu Shaoqian's recommendation, the innermost row of booths—but the moment Xi Yu's gaze lands on Wen Yining, everything else falls away and it's just that one image. Earlier, in his office, there's this beautiful contrast too. Floor-to-ceiling window, city skyline, skyscrapers, streams of traffic—all operating as usual. The world keeps turning while he's sitting there completely undone by a signature on a piece of paper. That juxtaposition between the vast indifferent city and his very small, very specific obsession is chef's kiss.
Okay so let me just say this: the way the author handled the Wang Yilin subplot was actually really clever. On the surface it's just a minor antagonist causing trouble on set, but then Lu Jing steps in and it becomes this whole thing where Lin Shen feels happy about it even though he knows Lu Jing wasn't doing it for him. That's such a realistic detail—people get weirdly gratified when someone protects them even if the real motivation has nothing to do with them. It's petty and human and I love it. But the real plot move here is the jealousy confession. Lu Jing bringing up the similar scene on his own? That's not just him being attentive—that's him actively tracking when Lin Shen was reading, when he was avoiding something, and using it as an opening to get close. The author planted this throughout the chapter where Lu Jing keeps circling back, asking questions, closing distance. It's not a sudden twist, it's a slow reveal that he's been holding something back this whole time. And then he just says it: "I was jealous." No preamble, no dramatic music, just... there it is. The structure of this chapter is basically a pressure cooker. You start with external conflict (Wang Yilin), move to Lin Shen's guilty secret about the scene, then Lu Jing's confession, then the bedroom scene, and finally the cliffhanger with Xiao Xu's text. Each beat raises the stakes a little more until you're just sitting there like... what happens next? The author doesn't let up. And that author's note at the end? Chef's kiss.

This is clearly a ten over ten, the novel has lot of interesting characters and a nice plot. So far, the story updates are quite solid. I think this novel is a great one, highly recommended.

Love this book. The update rate is great as well. I'll continue to keep reading so that I can keep up with it and not fall back. Man, so much stuff to unpack
Just casually giving myself 5 stars—ignore this. It’s funny how this light novel focuses so heavily on the darker side of business, government, and all that shady stuff. The ruthless politics, corporate power plays, and backstabbing... and yet, it's marketed as female-oriented. It’s kind of ironic, don’t you think? You’d expect something lighter or more empowering, but instead, it's full of high-stakes drama and gritty power struggles. It’s like a deep dive into the darker side of society, with a touch of femininity thrown in for good measure. Kind of an interesting contrast, but I guess that’s what makes it stand out. Yeah, it had comedy, but that’s just Nevaris being Nevaris—always with that unpredictable, sarcastic twist.
