This section is a pressure cooker and I am here for it. Let me just start by saying: the stakes in this novel keep escalating in ways that feel completely organic, and that's rare. You've got Suian's personal stake — she wants manumission to care for her weak father, and Chu Yi just crushed that dream with three words. But then you've got the Lin family's stake — they've fled south, Mr. Lin has been drafted into the military, and his sister is apparently so beautiful that a prince wants her as a concubine. That's not background gossip. That's a plot device that's going to collide with everything. The scene where Wang Ziyu reveals the Lin family secret is a masterclass in building tension through what is NOT said. He only tells Chu Yi after being coaxed into drinking. He mentions that this information is "only known to my father and grandmother" and that he overheard it. This is dangerous knowledge. And Chu Yi is absorbing it while sitting across from his cousin, sipping wine, asking casual questions. What's terrifying is that Suian has no idea any of this is happening. She's worried about whether Old Madam will take her to Dacheng Temple to pray. She's worried about her poetry slips being given away. She's worried about ice water. Meanwhile, the entire political machinery of this world is grinding toward a collision, and she's completely unaware. The internal conflict for Chu Yi is also fascinating. He's torn between his duty to his father (Commander Chu, who is connected to the Lin family through the military) and his own curiosity about Mrs. Lin's sister. He's also dealing with his mother — the text opens with him wondering why she hasn't reacted to something that would have made her furious three years ago. What happened? What is she suppressing? The author is planting these emotional landmines everywhere. And the stakes for Suian? They're personal and immediate. She's a servant with no family assets, a frail father, and a master who just told her not to think about leaving. But she's also clever — she made that poetry slip mold herself, she reads poetry notes, she's observant. The question is whether cleverness will be enough when the world around her starts catching fire.
Okay so can we just talk about how absolutely DELICIOUS the tension between these two men is? Like, Huo Jinchen is out there kneeling on the doorstep wailing like a broken radio, and inside the room, Huo Linyuan is holding Jiang Youwan like she's the only oxygen in the building. The contrast is chef's kiss. But what really got me was Huo Linyuan's jealousy. The guy literally asks, "How many people have called you baby?" and when she says one, he corrects her to two—because apparently he counts himself now. He's already positioning himself as the replacement in her heart, and he's not even being subtle about it. The man is possessive to the core, and honestly? I'm here for it. Meanwhile, Huo Jinchen is such a walking red flag wrapped in sweet words. He's literally using manipulation tactics—promising marriage, a grand wedding, a warm home—all while knowing full well he's been unfaithful. And the worst part? Jiang Youwan sees right through it. When she says "Looking at you would dirty my eyes" and "You disgust me, Huo Jinchen," I literally screamed. She went from soft and gentle to absolutely ruthless in one breath. That's not just character growth, that's a full transformation. And the dynamic between Jiang Youwan and Huo Linyuan? It's so layered. She's trying to maintain propriety—"Mr. Huo, this isn't appropriate"—while he's deliberately pushing every boundary. He's intoxicated, yes, but he's also completely calculated. The way he uses Huo Jinchen's desperation as leverage to get closer to her? That's not accidental. That's strategy. And she knows it, which is why she's both flustered and complicit. The most interesting part though is how Jiang Youwan's relationship with Huo Linyuan is built on this absurd, almost taboo foundation—she's literally being held by her ex's uncle while her ex begs outside. The text itself acknowledges this: "This absurd and immoral thought swirled in her mind, unsettling her heart." But instead of running, she leans in. That's the kind of character complexity that makes you keep turning pages.
Okay, I need to process what this chapter is saying about women's bodies and control, because it's hitting different. The central symbol is obviously the menstrual cycle — or rather, the LIE about it. Jiang Mei uses her period as an excuse to avoid intimacy with Pei Jingchuan, but the irony is that it's also a symbol of everything she can't control. Her body has been used, manipulated, harmed by contraceptive decoctions. The Flower House girls endured agony every time. And now she's using that same bodily reality as a shield. But here's the deeper layer: Pei Jingchuan REMEMBERS her pain. He warmed her abdomen with his hands. He sent medicine. He asks if her husband knows about her suffering. This is a man who has every reason to want to hurt her, but his body remembers how to care for her body. The symbolism here is uncomfortable — his care is real, but it's also possessive. He's caring for something he claims to own. The clothes she's wearing are also significant — the same clothes she married Zhou Hongyuan in, and she won't dirty them. These clothes represent the life she built, the identity she's constructed, and she's protecting it even while sitting in a carriage with the man she wronged. And the golden board — the imperial examination success — that's another symbol. Zhou Hongyuan talking about it with such hope, while Pei Jingchuan already has power and status. The examination represents upward mobility, but also the trap of ambition. Jiang Mei said those things about the golden board to survive, but they're also true desires she's suppressed. The whole chapter is about bodies in confinement — the carriage, the corridor, the clinic — and how women's bodies become sites of control, care, and survival.

One of the best book I've ever read, it's the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️?
So far it is really fast paced and interesting.Good plotline too.Not to mention the system is really not giving them any break at all?
As far as I can read, story is well writing and has a quite a bit future potential. The concept is very interesting, keep up the great work
Author hereI'll just break it down for you guys.I'm not a fan of overly described physical aspects, I prefer describing emotions and small actions that speak more than words.I like action scenes, with powers, and explosions. There's a lot of magic stuff but also physics and real world basis for everything in the story. This is not the traditional type of God plot. They don't have subjects, they don't get worshiped -at least not all the time. This is abt normal people that became Gods, they are not evil nor saints.I'm opened for discussions. I'm obsessed with using AI to create portraits of the Four Gods.
Really strong vibes dark, brutal, and with characters that stick Had me hooked instantly nice one ngl ?
First Chapter and i already like it. Looking forward for more quality chapters. Hope it grows well.
Hello. This is Snowstar, the author of the novel. I want to point out a few things the readers need to consider before starting the novel. (No spoilers included here)1) As you can guess from the title, MC has dual personalities. One is being a pampered husband, a weak and harmless individual who depends on his wives for the rest of the world. And the second is a ruthless assassin who would hunt down the criminals in the dark. When he was single, it was easy to lead dual lives. But how he dealt with it after marriage is the point.3) The world setting is a medieval fantasy, a female-dominated society ruled by matriarchy, almost everywhere. Men are basically fewer in number and are also considered weak in the eyes of women (in general. Not an absolute statement). So, most of the characters you would see in the novel would be female.3) The novel is a harem. Romantic subplots would be seen with every wife. No wife is the main female lead. Everyone has their own set of villains and problems.4) For most of the novel, it may appear like the MC's wives were steering the storyline and the MC might look like a side character but ultimately, it is the MC's story.5) From time to time, explicit content (R-18) will be uploaded too, but those who aren't comfortable with it can simply skip the chapter. There won't be explicit content in the middle of chapters (of course, that doesn't mean there won't be sensual content). Such content would be uploaded in separate chapters entirely. Even if you skip them, you won't miss anything important.6) Romance isn't the central theme of the novel. The central theme is still Fantasy. 7) The update schedule would be mostly around 7-10 chapters/week. Every month on the 20th, there will be a mass release of additional 5 chapters.8) I believe I covered most of the points. If anyone has any doubts, drop your questions below. I will do my best to answer them. thank you.9) If anyone is interested, check out the author's other notable works: My Soul Card is a Reaper; Weapon Seller in the World of Magic; War Online; My Soul Card was a Reaper: The Founder's Tale.
Author-san, the story idea is really cool. I absolutely loved it!! ? Also it would be better if you could divide it into smaller paragraphs. It could help the readers understand the pacing and atmosphere of the story. By the way, the name of the character got mixed up a bit. The first time it was Shinya, then it became Shen Yu. Please correct that as well. Anyways, looking forward to the release of the next chapters.
