And then the pivot! One second he's cackling about glory, the next he's saying "Xiaoran, you look pale. Go home and rest well. If you need anything, just tell Dad." The fake fatherly concern is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and Qin Xiaoran sees right through it. She just nods and says she wants to stay at the old house, and he agrees immediately because he's too busy dreaming about his promotion to notice. The dialogue between Qin Xiaoran and her father is basically a masterclass in subtext. Everything they're saying is the opposite of what they mean. He says "just tell Dad" while already calculating how to use her. She says "I believe you, Dad" while planning her next move. It's that primal sense that something is wrong. And then — BAM — hand over mouth, dragged into darkness. The description of Wen Dazhuang is genuinely disturbing in the best worldbuilding way. Pockmarked face, yellow teeth, foul breath. You can practically smell him through the page. And the parallel to her previous life is devastating — she remembers being stalked and molested before, and this time she knows what's coming but knows no one is coming to save her. "This time, she didn't expect anyone to come and save her. What she could do was save herself." That line hit me like a truck. The shift from victim to survivor in that moment — she pretends to be flustered, struggles a bit, then calmly pokes his eyes, kicks him, and smashes a brick on his head. The way she moves from panic to cold efficiency is terrifying and beautiful. And then Zhan Hanxiao appears. The tall silhouette emerging from darkness, leaning against the wall with a half-smile. It's all so cinematic — every beat feels like a camera angle. Gave 5 stars because im not gay. I haven’t started to read because seeing that it has about 50+ chapters only and book hasn’t been updated for weeks, I don’t think I should read it. Anyway, if auther continues to update the story and the book has over 150+ chapters, I will read it.

I have read this book and I have to say that. Am really confused mostly ?...it's dark, it's gritty, but since the author has yet to really start the story, he kinda introduces all the characters and the stakes at hand...I failed to see the angle at which he is playing at...And unlike his first one...where you could see the lack of skill, there has been a massive improvement in this one...and he has shown that he is taking this as seriously as possible. The story has elements of gods, eldritch monstrosities...(though that's speculation on my part, considering title and everything) it has elements of occult templates, political struggle between noble houses, the seven deadly sins (well nine from his synopsis) and I can't wait to see wat he is going to weave for us as the story unfolds....for now with the few chapters he has shown us... I have seen 'pride' as the main theme...and I believe that's the theme for volume one . Idk how he is to manipulate everything but I trust him.Well there was some lust and desire....??...but he promised it was all for the plot.And lastly the main character who I just realised was Krael at the beginning of chpt 10......I see how he is not just a brooding character who chooses to be edgy....he has a story, just like any other character. Though I feel his conviction with how pride affects him and the consequences he has paid for foolish pride and refusing to accept the contract.....and I hope I see more of this....Nice work Author...keep it up I will be here with u all they way

Though the beginning was fine, the whole thing was rushed with practically no details. There isn't any substantial information about the characters which tells us more into their past and there doesn't seem to be any struggle for the main character. Overall, the novel needs improvement.
