He's not just being cold for no reason, he's actually testing her, seeing if she's got ulterior motives. And the fact that he warns her about what her life would be like as a concubine? That's not cruelty, that's... protection? In the most roundabout way possible. But here's what gets me—when Chu Chengfeng bursts in, Chu Jin immediately shifts. He blocks Luo Ran from view. Subtly. Nobody else would notice, but I noticed. And then later, when he says 'the He family's rules have always been strict and upright,' he's basically covering for her, making sure nobody blames her for what happened. The relationship dynamic between them is so layered. On the surface, master and servant. But there's this undercurrent of... something. When he looked at her neck in that study, the text literally says he stared at it for a moment before getting up and moving toward her. That's not nothing. And then later when she falls into his bath and they're pressed together through wet clothes, his reaction is so controlled yet so intense. I keep wondering what's going on in his head. He clearly finds her attractive—he's lying awake at night thinking about her—but he also seems to genuinely want to protect her from the dangerous situation she's in. Is that love? Is it something else? The text says he's 'like a trapped beast suppressing something.' That's not just desire, that's a man fighting himself. And Luo Ran? She's so guarded, so careful. She's been burned before—her husband died, her in-laws kicked her out. She's not naive. But she also has this stubborn pride. When she tells Chu Jin she wants a husband who would be devoted only to her, not a master she serves—that's a line in the sand. She's not going to be another concubine. She's not going to share. The tension between them is electric. Every interaction crackles. And I'm just sitting here going 'oh my god, they're both so stubborn and neither will admit what they want.'
really nice book, wish had more comedy though
Personally I really like the novel. Also it's really unique especially when you're looking for an MC who's all about wits and manipulation. Though I wish the author could post more chapters, although I'm not rushing him or whatever but I just wanna read more to be honest. also I would like for the author to insert a chapter dedicated to elaborate on the power system of the abilities of the bloodlines and stuff. If ever there is any. But if there aren't any supposedly in the novel then it's also fine. Thank you! Anyways for a first written novel this is really good ✨? Hope the author doesn't stop writing.

Number One: Don't be shocked that there are no zombies in most of the Second Life I have written so far, and that is for good reason. She was locked up for the entire apocalypse and has no idea about the future beyond Dead Day. Many characters are introduced, with backgrounds and motivations to flesh out. Once the apocalypse comes, you'll miss these days *hehe*. Plus, I loved the idea of starting this as a system urban gang warfare stockpiling story where everything is slightly out of her control. I've purposely left characters and places with little description once described to try and let your imagination run wild and to avoid my over-describing problem as a writer, haha. This is a good story! like I mean- its rare to see a fantasy x mystery theme! like I mean i usually find fantasy x adventure or horror/thriller x mystery but not fantasy and mystery! I like this because ofcourse, number 1 is the writing quality, it makes you engrossed in the story. no. 2 is because the character development is realistic, and lastly, because I like mystery! it'll be interesting to read as how aiden will find the truth and- what the truth even is!If you like fantasy yet mystery, then go ahead and try this one! I promise its good!
