Okay so this opening is WILD. Like, I just finished the first three chapters and my brain is still catching up. The premise alone—rebirth to the day your husband fakes his own death to steal your money and run off with his sister-in-law—is such a delicious revenge setup. But what really got me was how the plot moves. Chapter 1 drops us right into the funeral scene, and within minutes we already know Su Jiuyue has been reborn, she remembers everything, and she's already figured out that Li Yanchuan is alive. The tension from that moment on is incredible. She's playing a double game—pretending to be the devastated widow while secretly securing all the money and setting traps. And the daughter! Little Jiaojiao knows something is off too. That scene where she whispers to her mom about recognizing her father is both heartbreaking and brilliant plotting. The author doesn't waste time with exposition dumps either—we learn about the past life betrayal through Su Jiuyue's internal monologue at exactly the right moments. By chapter 2, she's already moved from grief to action, withdrawing all the money, setting passwords, and hiding the gold bars. The pacing is relentless. I stayed up way too late reading because I needed to see what happens next.
The dialogue in these chapters is sharp enough to cut glass, and Zuo Wa is the real MVP of passive-aggressive speech. Let me just drop some gems: 'Cheng Youyou, don't hurt Sister Lu Xi!' — said while literally wanting Lu Xi to die. The fake concern is so thick you could spread it on bread. 'What did you feed Sister Lu Xi this time?' — that word 'again' does SO much work. It plants the seed of doubt in everyone's mind without Zuo Wa having to say anything explicit. 'If anything happens to Sister Lu Xi, who will take responsibility?' — the crowd's hesitation here is so realistic. Nobody wants to be on the wrong side of a death. But what really elevates the dialogue is Cheng Youyou's voice. She doesn't waste words. 'Praying won't help her. Move aside.' 'This is a life-or-death moment. If you don't know what you're doing, then shut up.' These lines are cold, direct, and completely in character for someone who's been through an apocalypse and has zero patience for nonsense. The narrative voice itself is also worth praising—it stays close to Cheng Youyou's perspective, letting us hear her internal panic ('inside, she was panicking') while she maintains a calm exterior. That gap between what she feels and what she shows is where the real tension lives.
On the surface, this is a transmigration romance with a spicy first encounter. But dig a little deeper and there's this devastating commentary on power, gender, and survival that caught me completely off guard. The central image of the novel so far is Xu Nianchu being passed around like an object—first by her own father who drugs her and sends her to a powerful man, then in the original story's timeline where she's literally gifted from one man to another like a piece of property. The novel doesn't shy away from how horrific this is, even while wrapping it in genre conventions. The golden finger she's about to claim? That's not just a plot device—it's symbolic of her agency. Everything has been taken from her: her family's wealth, her chastity (or what's left of it), her autonomy. The only thing she has left is whatever power this transmigration gives her. And the fact that she's reading her own life as a novel within the novel? That meta-layer is brilliant. She knows how the story goes, she knows she's cannon fodder, and she's determined to rewrite it. That's not just a romance premise—that's a survival manifesto. The father's three backup plans are also deeply symbolic. Offer the daughter, marry off the son, flee the country. It's a family selling off every asset they have, including their children. The novel is asking: what does it mean to be valuable when you're a woman in this world? And the answer so far is: not much, unless you learn to weaponize the very things the story treats as your weakness.
Can we talk about how good the dialogue is in this book because some of these lines are absolutely iconic. The first one that made me laugh out loud: Lin Wan flicking her brother's forehead and saying 'Even the King of Hell thinks we're too poor to bother collecting.' That is DARK HUMOR at its finest. She just woke up from nearly dying, her brother thinks they're in Heaven, and her immediate response is a joke about being too broke for death itself. This is a character who uses humor as armor, and it tells us everything about her personality. Then there's the exchange about the food. Lin Yulong: 'Big Sister, you eat. I already drank that sweet water. My stomach feels full. I'm not hungry at all.' His stomach growls immediately after. The dialogue is so natural, so painfully realistic for a abused child who's been conditioned to never eat first. And Lin Wan's response—'When I tell you to eat, then eat. Stop arguing.'—is perfect. Short. Authoritative. No nonsense. This is someone who's used to giving orders, and it fits her assassin background without being overdone. The narration also has a fantastic voice. Phrases like 'A bloodthirsty gleam belonging to a true apex predator flashed through her eyes' and 'It's still uncertain who's going to eat whom' give us this dark, predatory energy that's completely different from the usual protagonist voice. She's not a hero. She's a survivor who happens to be good at killing things. And the simplest line that works perfectly: 'When has your sister ever lied to you?' After he stares at the meat in disbelief, she doesn't gloat or explain. She just reminds him that she keeps her promises. Three words that carry so much weight. The author's narrative voice balances action, humor, and emotion without ever feeling forced. Every line serves the scene.

This is a really good translation. Now, you have to take into account, that, as a translation, this novel will have some mistakes. Despite this, it retains readability, and is quite enjoyable. The updates are very, very quick. This same novel is on Scribblehub, but they only update 4x a week. Pretty standard Xianxia, but still enjoyable enough to zone out.
