I need to talk about this one scene because it wrecked me. Ling Mo is going through the original girl's memories and she finds this deep, suffocating despair — the girl had contemplated ending her life before Ling Mo even arrived. And then she stands in front of the mirror and says: "I hope you can reunite with your parents over there." And she FEELS the reflection smile back. I literally paused reading and stared at my phone. That's the kind of moment that stays with you. It's not dramatic or overwrought — it's quiet, almost understated, which makes it hit harder. And then she follows up with "Since I'm using your body, I'll live it well for you." That's not just a plot device, that's genuine respect for the person whose life she's taken over. Most transmigrator protagonists just overwrite the original character like they never existed. But Ling Mo acknowledges her. She honors her. And honestly? That makes me care about this character in a way I didn't expect. She's not just a cold calculator with a space cheat — she has depth. She's processing grief, adapting to a new reality, and still finding the humanity to be kind to someone who's literally dead. The relationship between Ling Mo and the original body is the emotional backbone of this story and it's already stronger than most romance plots I've read.
Okay so let me just say this scene is a MASTERCLASS in tension-building and I need to talk about it. The whole setup is genius. You've got Luo Ran, this poor girl who's basically been sold and is still counting her money, stumbling into Chu Jin's bath. And Chu Jin? He doesn't just let it go. No, he turns it around and ACCUSES her of deliberately provoking him. Like—excuse me? You're the one who grabbed her waist and won't let go! But here's what really gets me: the interruption. Just when everything is about to cross a line, when Chu Jin is pinning her beneath him and asking if she's determined to force him to take her RIGHT NOW—KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. The palace messenger shows up with urgent news. This is such a classic trope but it works SO well here because the author doesn't just use it as a cheap pause. Look at Chu Jin's reaction: he doesn't just stop. He deepens the kiss first, sucks on her lips once more, then slowly pulls back. His voice is low and rough, reluctant. He tells her to wait in his room. That's not a scene that's being deflected—that's a scene that's being DELIBERATELY postponed with intent. And the urgent news from the palace? About the matter he's been concerned with these past few days? That's a plot thread that's been dangling and now it's about to get pulled. I'm genuinely curious what this news is and how it's going to affect their dynamic. Because clearly, whatever it is, it's going to change things between them. The pacing in this section is also worth noting. It goes from awkward misunderstanding to physical tension to near-violence-to-passion to interrupted climax, all in one continuous scene. That's a lot of beats to hit and the author doesn't rush any of them. Every moment lingers. The water rippling, the steam, the callused palm on her cheek—the details ground the scene even as the emotional stakes skyrocket. I just have one question: when Chu Jin says "Go wait for me in my room," is he planning to finish what he started? Or is the palace news going to force him to reconsider everything?
I've been thinking about this book a lot since I finished it, and the symbolism around books and covers is everywhere. Let me unpack it. The Classic of Navigation from the Yin Dynasty—that's the MacGuffin of this whole sequence, right? It's priceless, ancient, fragile. Princess Yuyang throws it into the lake because it represents something Xie Zhi touched that shouldn't have been touched. But Xie Zhi had a DUPLICATE. She'd already removed the draft version from her robe before handing over the real one. The cover was damaged, but the book survived. I think that's on-the-nose symbolism for Xie Zhi herself—she's been damaged, thrown around by people like Yuyang, but she has layers and hidden strengths that protect her core. Then there's the cloth book covers she sews. Pale green with ink-plum blossoms. She's essentially wrapping damaged things in beauty, making them presentable again. That's her whole survival strategy in this mansion. She can't fight Yuyang directly, so she makes herself useful, she charms Madam Yang, she wins over Pei Zhaoyin. She creates covers for people to see while hiding what's underneath. And the name Lichun—"Spring Light"—given by Pei Du casually. Yuyang thinks it's a name Qi Songqing gave her as a token of affection. The misunderstanding itself is a kind of false cover, a misreading that destroys lives. Names matter in this world. They're labels that can trap you. The deepest symbol though is probably the library itself. Guanxue Tower is where knowledge is kept, where servants can borrow books, where ancient texts are preserved. It's a space of learning and quiet power. Xie Zhi finds her agency there—through her skills, her knowledge, her ability to create. While the noble ladies float on boats admiring lotus flowers, she's in the library saving a dynasty-old manuscript with needle and thread. This book is really about who gets to tell their story and who gets covered up instead.
overall 4 stars from me!, it's been interesting story the world building and how the system works, also as an exchange of the gifts there's consequences ... i like the consequences part!??keep going Author!
Hi, I'm Kohi, the author of "Your Majesty, I'm Not Awakened!" (MINA)This is my first BL novel, and I hope that my lovely readers will enjoy the story. I love reading hunter, tower-climbing and dungeon stories, like Omniscient Reader, The S-Classes That I Raised, and Regression Instruction Manual, to name a few. So I thought, what if I write an actual BL Hunter story, not just a fujioshi bait of two handsome men? One with both romance and plot? So here goes my baby, MINA. I'm not that good a writer, and I will likely miss a preposition or verb tense here and there. I just hope y'all will give Ryujin and his beloved a chance. HAPPY READING! Cheers, my lovelies~
