I'm still thinking about that dream. 'Their figures grew farther and farther away. No matter how she chased, she couldn't catch up. She fell to the ground, crying as she watched them disappear.' That hit me so hard. This is a girl who lost her mother and grandfather, who spent years deteriorating after they were gone, and in her dream she's still chasing them. Still trying to reach them. It's heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. And then this little boy appears. Helps her up. Gives her flowers. Walks away holding her hand. Is this... is this supposed to be someone significant? A future love interest? A spiritual guide? I don't know yet but I'm already invested. What made it even more emotional for me was the contrast. She wakes up, feels her body—less weak, more alive—and thinks about how her health collapsed after her family died. How she had medicine for years when they were alive, and after they passed, everything fell apart. That connection between love and survival, between having people who care about you and actually being able to live... it's not spelled out explicitly but it's there, pulsing underneath everything. The rest of the chapter is all about her taking control, and that's empowering, don't get me wrong. But that dream is the emotional core. It's why she's doing all of this. Not just revenge. Not just survival. She wants to LIVE well. Like they told her to.
The stakes in this section are escalating in ways that make my stomach churn. On the surface, it's about marriage arrangements. Su Xi needs a husband. Xue Ning needs an Acknowledgment Banquet. Simple, right? Wrong. Because underneath all of this is the Lu Family from Willow Lane—and Xue Ning's maternal uncle's family. In her past life, her original fiancé was her cousin Lu Siling. The text says she 'had been living in the old residence in Yongzhou for too long' and had 'almost forgotten.' FORGOTTEN. Not chosen. FORGOTTEN. That means in her previous life, she ended up with Su Zhan instead. And we KNOW how that ended. The wedding night turned into a mourning period. Madam Jiang died. The house was draped in white. And Xue Ning spent ten years loving a man who saw her as a jinx. Now she's back. Now she's trying to change things. But the past has a way of catching up. Su Xi's private commitment already caused one disaster. What happens when the Lu Family enters the picture again? What happens when Xue Ning is forced to confront the man she was originally supposed to marry? And internally—Xue Ning is fighting a war against her own heart. She tells herself she should be kinder to herself. She walks away from Su Zhan without looking back. But when she hears his laughter with Xie Ningtang, her organs twist. The conflict isn't resolved. It's just being managed. And management has an expiration date.
The plot in these chapters is moving at a furious pace and I am not okay. Let me trace the threads because there are SO MANY: Thread 1: Chu Linzhang's downfall. He was the undefeated God of War, crippled and exiled because the emperor feared him. Classic "once the work is done, the donkey is slaughtered" trope but executed with real emotional weight. The text literally says: "His wings had been broken before being sent into exile." That imagery hits hard. Thread 2: The poison plot. Chu Lin'an gets medicine from the Zhou family, pretends it's for his brother, and is about to apply a blood-sealing poison to Chu Linzhang's wounds. Hua Zhiyun catches it—her sense of smell apparently works like a damn metal detector—and destroys it. Then she tests it on a mouse she keeps in her sleeve (??) to prove it's poison. Chu Lin'an breaks down, apologizes, and calls her magnanimous. She tells him to call her "Sister" instead of "Sister-in-law." The family dynamics are a minefield. Thread 3: The escape plan. Chu Linzhang gives Hua Zhiyun a hairpin with a signal flare. He asks her to leave with him. She refuses because her space disappears if she leaves the exile route. This is a MAJOR plot constraint that the author has built into the story—and it's brilliant because it creates genuine tension. She CAN'T leave, even if she wants to. But she also can't fully commit to staying. Thread 4: The Zhou family's vendetta. They beat Chu Lin'an to a pulp when he asked them for medicine. They clearly had blood in the family history with the Chu family and used this opportunity to settle scores AND try to assassinate Chu Linzhang. Two birds, one stone. Thread 5: Chu Huaizhu's death. The ten-year-old who tried to snatch food gets bitten by a snake and dies because Hua Zhiyun refuses to give her antivenom. This is a plot point that's going to HAVE consequences. Li Shi is now a grieving, furious mother who blames Hua Zhiyun. The other family members think the Hua family committed fraud. The social dynamics are about to explode. What I love is how these threads are all tangentially connected. The exile route is the spine, but every character is pulling in a different direction. And the author keeps raising the stakes—first it's just survival, then it's assassination attempts, then it's child death, then it's a proposed escape that can't happen. The chapter structure is also smart. Each chapter ends on a note that forces you to keep reading. Chapter 12 ends with "Will you come with me?" Chapter 13 ends with the poison revelation and Chu Lin'an's guilt. No filler. Every scene advances at least two plot threads.
The stakes in this chapter are deceptively simple on the surface — it's just a school bully incident, right? Wrong. Let me break down why this scene is actually terrifying if you think about it. Haitang is a reborn person. She knows what happens to her in her past life. She's entering a new school, she's alone, she doesn't have her family around in the same way. Zhang Xiaoxue isn't just some random mean girl — she's someone who has already targeted Haitang before. The bump in the classroom isn't an accident. Haitang reads this immediately: if she lets this slide, if she plays the nice victim and says 'it's okay,' then Zhang Xiaoxue will escalate. And the next time, it won't be a bump. It could be worse. The stairwell confrontation raises the stakes even further because Haitang is alone with her aggressor. No witnesses. No backup. She has to outsmart her, not overpower her. And she does — but the risk is real. If Zhang Xiaoxue had actually grabbed her, if she'd fallen harder, if someone had witnessed it differently... Haitang could have been the one blamed. The author makes you feel this tension without ever saying it outright. You're sitting on the edge of your seat the entire time Zhang Xiaoxue is chasing her down those stairs. And then the hospital scene? Even more suspense. Zhang Xiaoxue wakes up and immediately tries to frame Haitang. The witnesses are still outside. Teacher Zhu is suspicious. Haitang is alone against a liar who's willing to go all the way. The stakes are her reputation, her safety, her entire future at this school. And she handles it like a queen.
Honestly love the character design. The addition of powers with the cop element is a new one I’ve never seen but personally enjoy. Very much would enjoy more.
This story is interesting and intriguing, you get hooked right from the first chapter, amazing ?
I really like this novel too much!!! It's about hunters, katana, dragons, it didn't take much for me to start reading and frankly it's even better than I really expected, too bad I don't have a bank card yet to unlock the chapters. Please author mail them to me...
It's Good story i like the multiverse concept with rich world-building and well-crafted action sequences. well i am not a fan of darkish tone series my self but i felt like some characters feel underdeveloped, serving more as plot devices than fully fleshed-out individuals. But anyway its a good start keep it up Boy???????✨✨✨✨????????
