I have to appreciate the dialogue in this because it's doing SO MUCH work with very few words. Look at how Shangguan speaks to the clothing wholesaler: "I'm very interested in your clothing. I plan to purchase 10,000 sets of various items..." She doesn't waste a single word. Every sentence is purposeful, direct, commanding. She lists out EXACTLY what she wants—women's clothing, children's clothing, underwear, thermal underwear, sportswear, casual wear—and the owner immediately takes her seriously. This isn't a girl asking for favors; this is a general issuing orders. And the shop owners' responses are perfect too. The clothing owner: "Young lady, that's quite a large order. The price is negotiable, but you know, the materials and workmanship in my shop are top quality, so the cost is naturally not low." She's cautious but professional. Then Shangguan fires back: "I genuinely want to work with you long-term. Give me a fair price—if this cooperation goes well, there will be many more orders." BOOM. That's how you close a deal. The food wholesaler scene is my favorite though. "I need 30,000 units of each: rice, brown rice, pearl rice, beans, soybean oil, olive oil..." She rattles off this entire list like she's reading a shopping list for a small village. And the owner just... accepts it. "Girl, don't worry. The price will be fair." These people have no idea what's coming. They think they're doing business with a wealthy eccentric. The dramatic irony is delicious. The author's voice throughout is crisp and efficient—no flowery prose when action is needed, no wasted words. It matches Shangguan's character perfectly.

I am also surprised the author is writing a second novel after starting another. In the end I am glad he did so. It feels like a very well made product that becomes more and more interesting the more you think about how the author ended up creating this world and how it feels reading it. I would say that the author made another novel that I would consider to be a mile stone in how ideas can come together to be made into a novel (for at least this site). This is a VERY broad statement so don't take this as me being overly positive. Their are parts of the multi layered feeling I get from reading this novel that are very unique, with unique being one of the best ways to describe those particular feelings / mental perceptions. It is still very early on but I am going to be keeping a close eye on this. The author seems to have taken the time to think deeply about everything in many different ways and it shows. I might not be the biggest fan of the romance being this early in the novel. I would have liked to see a bit more details about the power system instead. This is my personal preference.
