The embezzlement case is simmering under everything and it's making me nervous in the best way. Pei Yunting connects the dots immediately—those people who barged into their room at Xiaoxiang House didn't just stumble in randomly. "That Lord Liu... does he have something to do with the embezzlement case you and Zhou Siyan have been investigating recently?" She's sharp, she's suspicious, and she's right to be. Meanwhile Yan Huaijin is recovering from injuries, practicing swordsmanship, juggling his duties as a prince, and dealing with Commandery Princess Nanping showing up at the training ground with unresolved feelings for him. The romantic triangle is setting up but the REAL stakes are political. If the embezzlement case goes wrong, people die. If Yan Huaijin pushes too hard, he makes enemies. And Pei Yunting is caught in the middle—not just as his childhood friend but as the daughter of Marquis Pei Zhao'an, whose family has deep ties to the Emperor. The scene where she walks into his chest and he catches her waist—this could go so many ways and the tension is unbearable. They're dancing around something huge and I'm here for it. The author knows how to layer personal stakes on top of political ones and make you care about both simultaneously.
I have to give credit where it's due—the dialogue in this novel is genuinely excellent. Let me just drop a few lines that made me laugh out loud. Song Cili: "Can your stomach even hold all the snacks in that room?" Su Meier: "Who said I'd eat them all at once? Obviously, I'd eat them slowly." This exchange is perfectly calibrated. His teasing is dry and understated, her response is equal parts exasperation and confidence. You can hear their voices clearly. Then there's Jiang Honglian vs. Fang Zhaodi: "Oh, noble citizen of Haicheng, are your eyes pointed toward the sky? Do you see everyone as a villager?" And Fang Zhaodi's response: "You're called a tomboy for a reason, and now you're really getting carried away. Disgusting!" These two have such distinct voices. Jiang Honglian is sharp and witty, Fang Zhaodi is hot-headed and reactive. You could tell them apart with their dialogue blindfolded. And Su Meier's internal monologue is where the real voice shines. When the old friends show up and she's thinking "Holy crap! What dream?" and "Then tell me what the dream was! How was she supposed to make something up otherwise?" This is modern, relatable, and hilarious. The author has nailed the voice of a twenty-first-century woman dropped into a rural 1970s setting. The contrast between her internal panic and her external calm is comedy gold.

Falando em português mesmo, até agora eu vi apenas 6 capítulos, mas posso afirmar que é uma estória boa, que vai ter uma trama bem interessante, confio que o autor não vai ir muito fora da curva, também me interessei pelo fato dele nascer em uma década futura, e não clichê dele ser de nosso tempo, com tudo isso dito, abraços e espero que melhore cada vez mais essa estória.
Woww...a fantasy of two aliens meeting on earth as human and fae. Its very creative to being with, and the fact that Author had made it deep and detailed with just few words of description is marvellous. Story is funny, dramatic, and give wholesome vibe.
