I keep thinking about the toothbrush. It's such a small, seemingly random detail, but it's doing enormous thematic work. Madam Qin can't understand why Qin Xiao would buy Qinghe a toothbrush and tooth powder. In her world, everyone chews willow twigs dipped in salt and stove ash. Qin Xiao himself lived that way for years. The toothbrush represents something radical: the idea that this woman deserves care, comfort, and attention to her wellbeing—not just as a servant who keeps the household running, but as a person. The silk gauze is the bigger symbol, obviously. It's not just expensive fabric—it's a declaration. Qin Xiao is saying, with every bolt he purchases, that Qinghe is worthy of beauty and luxury. And Madam Qin's reaction reveals everything about her worldview: she sees Qinghe as a threat because Qinghe receives things that Madam Qin herself never received. Not because she's cruel (well, partly because she's cruel), but because the silk gauze represents a different economy of love—one based on mutual care rather than control and extraction. Qin Xiao's line "I'm good to her because she's good to me" is the thesis statement of the entire passage. It's a radical idea in this context. Filial piety demands that sons support mothers regardless of how they treat them. But Qin Xiao is proposing something different: relationships should be reciprocal. Care should be earned, not demanded by blood. The villagers' response confirms this—every single one of them sides with him because they've watched Madam Qin extract from Qin Xiao his entire life while giving nothing back. The toothbrush, the silk, the cotton quilts—they're all the same symbol. Material goods as evidence of love. And the real question the story asks is: who deserves to receive them?
I can't wait to see how all this unravels ??so far l love the story.
Although this theme type is not my cup of tea , I prefer emotional drama. I have to say it's a amazing story with a intriguing plot?
offers a compelling journey through a richly imagined landscape. The author's descriptive prose brings to life a world where every shadow holds a secret and every relic tells a story. Talyra's character is well-developed, with her internal struggles and evolving relationships adding depth to the narrative. Overall this is a good bok?
selfish of me to give my book a 5 star rating but hey, self love first right? ?
Hey, shameless author review here. Just writing to say that this will be a book I wrote whenever I feel like it. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and just felt like a good time to start it. Also this will never be a harem, and the MC will never be OP, Zero already got that on lock, so if those type of stories are your cup of tea sorry to disappoint. Hope you enjoy :)
This novel is very wonderful, I advise you to read it ??
Love the book, love power couples , overall one of the best bl novel on webnovel for sure, love the mc too! Great job! And love the update frequency too
