By the end of these chapters, the conflict has escalated from a messy love triangle to a full-blown war with pregnancy as the weapon, divorce as the battlefield, and everyone's future hanging in the balance. I need to know what happens next.

The pacing in these chapters is relentless and I couldn't put it down. It moves from a high-stakes accusation scene — where Ye Feishuang's life and reputation are on the line — straight into an intimate family moment with her parents, then immediately into the servant confrontation, and ends with her walking into Old Madame Zheng's courtyard. That's a lot of ground to cover and the author handles it without any drag. The transition from the main room to her parents' courtyard is especially effective. One moment she's just won a major battle against Mrs. Qin, and the next she's kneeling beside her sick father, and the emotional whiplash works because it grounds all that political maneuvering in something human. Then the pacing shifts again when she discovers the food situation. The scene with the servants escalates so quickly — from a simple question about meals to the servant boy leering at her with a wine cup, to her overturning the table. It's almost too fast, but that's the point. Ye Feishuang is done waiting. In her past life she endured, and now she's exploding. The chapter ends with her walking into Old Madame Zheng's presence, and I love that the text cuts off mid-description of the young master approaching — it's a natural cliffhanger that makes you immediately want to turn the page. The author also uses short, punchy dialogue during the confrontations which speeds up the reading, then slows down for the quieter family scenes. That rhythm — fast, slow, fast — keeps you engaged without exhausting you.

These seven chapters move in this gorgeous spiral pattern. They start small—a couple of kids under a tree—and gradually expand outward until you've got the entire imperial family, the harem politics, succession rumors, and the Emperor himself all orbiting around this one tiny moment of a toddler talking to a tree. Chapter 8 opens with Yin E's frustration, which immediately establishes the central tension of the story: the Crown Prince versus everyone else, the Emperor's favoritism, the pressure cooker these children are growing up in. Then it pivots to the garden scene, which feels like a breath of fresh air after all that political weight. The children discovering the tree hole, the debate about whether trees can get sick—it's playful, light, almost comedic. And then right when you think it's just a cute interlude, Consort De snatches that tree branch from Yinzuo's hand and tosses it aside like trash, and suddenly the harem politics are back, lurking beneath every interaction. The gossip about Yin You being "not quite right in the head" is a brilliant structural choice. It takes something adorable and flips it into something dangerous in the span of a paragraph. In this world, a child's innocence isn't protected—it's a liability. Then Chapter 9 shifts again, into the daily rhythm of Yin You following Yinzhen to study, and the pacing slows down to this almost meditative quality. Wind or rain, he shows up. The Emperor tries to engage and gets shushed. The chapter ends with Yin You building a castle from wooden blocks while his father watches, and there's this perfect stillness to it. The author never lets the story sit in one emotional register for too long. It moves from rivalry to tenderness to comedy to anxiety to warmth, and each transition feels earned rather than rushed. That's craft.

I need to talk about the ATMOSPHERE in this chapter because the author is genuinely gifted at painting scenes that feel like movie frames. The opening breakfast scene — Sikong Sui sitting between her brother and Xie Ren with all her favorite dishes laid out, but she has no appetite because her brother is injecting her with suppressants. The contrast between the lavish spread and her lack of appetite, the clinical gentleness of the injection, the cedar-and-cold-iron scent of the pheromone fluid — it's domestic intimacy layered over something deeply dangerous. You can FEEL the tension in that dining room. Xie Ren setting down his coffee cup. The collision of two top-tier Alpha gazes over the table. The silence that follows. Then the classroom: tiered, stained-glass dome, diamond-shaped patches of light on dark wooden floors, oil portraits of past headmasters. It feels ancient, solemn, like a place where secrets go to die. And then Gu Shiyan appears in the doorway against the light — light chestnut hair gilded with a halo, that spring-breeze smile. The description is almost too beautiful, which is exactly the point. He's a smiling tiger. "His features were delicate, his thin lips slightly curved with a perfect arc. That smile reminded one of the spring breeze in March, of newly thawed streams, of everything gentle and beautiful." And you immediately know something is WRONG because the narration itself is seduced by his appearance while the protagonist is recoiling. Pei Sichen's entrance is pure temperature drop. The room goes silent, breathing softens, and he doesn't even LOOK at her. Glacier energy is not a metaphor for this man. The sensory details are insane — the faint scent of Bloody Mary on Xie Ren's coat brushing her desk, the white tea and sandalwood on Gu Shiyan, the cedar and cold iron on her wrist. This world breathes through smell.

It's so interesting how I got hooked on this novel so quickly I mean... carso was really amazing and overall I give it four stars but to support the author because he's new I'll give it five stars

Overall, it's a good story so far. Personally, it's a bit too fast-paced for me, but im aware a lot of readers enjoy that, so it isn't a negative objectively. Shes overpowered as heck, author is touching on some interesting themes i certainly didnt expect which is always nice to see. Overall well done and I can definitely see the story getting up there in popularity. ?
