This review contains significant spoilers! Warning: The novel in question has some extremely unsettling aspects. Here's a summary:
- The relationship between the two main characters felt unnatural and overly sexual, with the male lead, who is portrayed as creepy, having inappropriate advances towards his much younger sister, even sniffing her period blood.
- The male lead is depicted as a misogynistic, violent individual obsessed with his sister. His character lacks depth, displaying only two extreme emotions: doting on his sister and being erratic with others. Overall, the reviewer rates him 2.5/5.
- The female lead (FL) is described as strange and possessive. She behaves aggressively, often using a whip, and is overpowered (OP), which adds an unusual dynamic. Despite knowing he's not her biological brother, she acts as if they're twins and engages in intimate behavior, which the reviewer finds unsettling. The FL's character evolves from an initially intriguing "lucky charm" to repetitive, boring, and annoying. The reviewer gives her a rating of 1.5/5.
- The main antagonist, Shen Miao Qi (SMQ), the original FL, is portrayed as a spoiled and self-centered character. Her attempts to improve her life are disturbing and ineffective. The reviewer questions why the author portrayed her negatively and wonders where the FL's redeeming qualities, usually found in similar stories, disappeared.
- The sudden change in another character, Siyu, from hatred to love for the FL is confusing and unrealistic, transforming her life dramatically.
- The novel is criticized for being overly powerful (OP) and focusing on a twisted dynamic between a sickly groomer-like stepbrother and his sister, who sees him both as a brother and romantic partner.
- While the reviewer didn't outright hate the book, it left them feeling uncomfortable and disgusted due to its unconventional and disturbing themes.
In summary, the reviewer found the novel peculiar, with unsettling relationships and character developments, leading to a low overall rating.
The story had a promising concept, but unfortunately, the author's lack of planning led to a messy narrative. The main character's decision-making grated on me, particularly when he initially lost interest in getting stronger after his double awakening. It took an astonishing 110 chapters to complete his first quest for the Slime Lord ability, which could have been done much faster if he had motivation. His original skill was also neglected until he suddenly remembered it.
The concept of Awakened levels, ranging from 1 to 10 or so, was unclear. There was no explanation of their strength relative to real-world weapons, their speed, or how leveling up worked – whether it was solely through awakening quests without stat boosts. The author introduced an F-rank ranking system at the Awakened headquarters but never developed it further, sticking to the level system instead.
The protagonist's farming segment started well but became lazy as the author skipped descriptions, resorting to deus ex machina plot solutions. Whenever the plot hit a roadblock, the MC conveniently harvested crops to fix it.
What I personally disliked was a particular spoiler: when the MC tamed the Greedy Red Goblin Mammon, despite its usefulness, it had already killed powerful Awakeners. If discovered, it could cause significant trouble. Personally, I felt that ordering its extermination would have been a more appropriate choice.
Overall, the story suffered from inconsistent execution and a lack of clarity in key areas.
The chapter I'm referring to is based on the original source material, not the translated version. Frankly, I've had enough of this slow-paced story. With almost 70 chapters, there's been minimal character development, which doesn't appeal to me. The child is adorable, but at times he comes across as robotic, lacking the typical traits of a 2-3-year-old. The author briefly mentioned his dependence on diapers due to Ye Fan's neglect, but that issue is never fully addressed or resolved, which would surely irk developmental psychologists like Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson.
The villains in this novel are one-dimensional, with Tang Jin, who replaced the main character, being portrayed simply as a spoilt brat. However, there's no adequate exploration of her family dynamics to justify her behavior. A person's actions are influenced by both nature and nurture, yet in this story, the villains are reduced to mere manifestations of their innate nature.
As for the protagonist, her omnipresence and invincibility are overdone. Intelligence alone doesn't automatically make her a brilliant actress. The male lead, on the other hand, seems to exist more as a presence than an actual character.
In summary, the story lacks depth and complexity, with characters and plot points falling short of engaging me.
(1)Okay so first of all - the author did actually make this novel based on "power corrupts". That can be seen multiple times throughout this, and the dude confirmed it himself in the discord.
The MC's decisions for the colonies, while not "morally right" from a 21st century perspective, firstly, are logical to this world. A King in that time cannot act super kind to people outside his kingdom, as he will be seen as weak by others then, also, the people of his kingdom would see it as unfair (which it is) because in these circumstances you would have to sustain these people in some sorts education camp for years while feeding them on taxpayer money. Second, we see in today's world just how well all these "nice" countries work. Not at all, that is. With the way people are complaining in this comment section, they don't know sh*t about statecraft, and I don't blame them for that, that's some niche knowledge, but you could at least understand that the only real law is "the strongest wins".
I'm at chapter 40...and it looks like his leopard demon pet seems to vanished in thin air. The last time I saw him appeared was when Wang yi captured the 2 stalkers and the demon leopard was hiding in the corner of the room to watch the show. This is the second novel that I read after the new novel which is the auction system novel both authors seem to have amnesia.
