'Thirty-six stratagems: retreat is best.' I know this sounds ridiculous but hear me out — the goji tea scene is the most thematically rich moment in these chapters. On the surface it's comedy gold. Jiang Chuyao steals her father's aphrodisiac ingredients, makes a disgusting soup for her sister, then uses the residue to cover her tracks. But underneath? It's about power reversal. The father who dismissed her, who gave her fifty yuan like it was nothing, who thought a woman doing business was 'pure fantasy' — his own 'treasures' become her weapon. The soup itself is a symbol of everything the Jiang family has been feeding Jiang Chuying: extreme, overwhelming, disguised as nourishment but actually toxic. 'Good medicine tastes bitter but helps the illness' — Jiang Chuyao says this while force-feeding her sister a bowl of literal poison. That's not just revenge, that's thematic justice. The rebirth premise itself is the biggest symbol — second chances, rewriting fate, the idea that the 'useless' adopted daughter was actually the strong one all along. And the dance hall? A space being renovated, not yet open, full of potential — that's basically Jiang Chuyao's arc in physical form. She's under construction, not yet revealed, but the foundation is solid. The author keeps weaving these deeper meanings into what seems like simple plot moments.
Let me just say — the pacing in these chapters is absolutely relentless in the best way. You start with Nanny Zhang explaining the teacup conspiracy, which is already a lot of information to absorb, and then within the same chapter you're already moving into the investigation, the discovery of the maid, the realization that the medicine is imperial-grade, the visit to the Marquis, the eavesdropping scene, and THEN the Marquis collapses. That's eight chapters of escalating tension and I didn't once want to skip ahead. What's clever is how the author controls the information flow. We learn about the teacup first, then the maid, then the imperial medicine, then the midwives, then the two girls, then the Marquis's realization about the second branch's true motive — each revelation builds on the last like layers of an onion. By the time the Marquis pieces together that killing the fetus or the eldest daughter-in-law wouldn't transfer the title, but making the eldest son commit a scandalous act DURING mourning WOULD — that's when the full scope of Madam Wang's ambition becomes clear. The cliffhanger structure is also well-done. Chapter 9 ends with Swallow Holding Branch running to get help. Chapter 10 starts with her already inside the hall, hiding behind the bonsai, listening to the report. There's no time to breathe between scenes — you're always moving forward. And the Marquis collapsing at the end? That's not a cheap shock tactic. It's the culmination of everything we've been building toward. The guilt, the stress, the knowledge that his own family is trying to destroy his eldest son's line — it all hits him physically. The only moment that felt slightly rushed was the transition from Madam Bai investigating the maid to handing everything to the Marquis. We don't see the actual confrontation or the moment she decides to go to him — it's summarized rather than shown. But honestly, that's a minor complaint. The author knows when to speed up and when to slow down, and these chapters are proof that she has that instinct.
Okay, I need to talk about Duan Wujiu because this man is genuinely unhinged in the best way possible. Let me set the scene: he has amnesia, he's been rescued by Liu Zhiheng, she lies to him and says he's her child groom, and instead of being mad about it, he's like... yeah, I knew you were lying but I was willing to be deceived by you. WILLINGLY. Like, bro, you just met this person and you're already choosing the lie over the truth? That's not love, that's something else entirely. But here's what really got me: when Liu Zhiheng tries to remind him of his past by showing him the jade pendant with the dragon pattern—royal blood, clearly—he just tosses it aside. 'I don't want it.' He'd rather stay a nobody in a village than reclaim whatever status he had. And when she asks why, he says his past 'smells of decay, foulness, and the depths of an abyss.' That line hit me like a truck. Whatever this man was before, it was BAD. Like, morally corrupt, soul-rotten bad. And he's not even sorry about forgetting it. The most chilling part is his obsession. When Liu Zhiheng says he can leave anytime, his expression literally changes—'that sinister expression reappeared.' He says 'I don't want a choice.' He's flexing his wrist and considering that if she doesn't want him, 'they might as well die together.' This is not a healthy attachment, friends. This is the kind of love that consumes. And yet... I can't look away from it. There's something almost tragic about a man who found the only thing that makes him feel alive in someone who's been lying to him from day one. Also, Chuncao's scene with him? One look and she felt a 'murderous glare piercing through her.' The man is dangerous. Like, genuinely threatening. But he turns around and for Liu Zhiheng he's just... soft. Gentle. 'A Heng is so silly.' The duality is insane.
The writing quality is good and the author has some good past works so I'm sure this will be good
Harem?
This is truly a wonderful story, i thought i'd read a few more chapters before reviewing but fuck it, i'm so hooked. The pacing is good, the writing is excellent and the storyline is just interesting, not to mention the MCs hilarious nature?Anyway i totally recommend this novel, you'll love it. Good job to the author once again?
I was recommended this by a good friend of mine so far one chapter in I can’t wait to see how this story will story progress , Xerxes is such a great character and I can’t wait to see the mystery of the fallen kingdom unfold.❤️❤️❤️
Author’s Totally Unbiased 5-Star Review (Trust Me, I’m the Author)Yoo!! The greatest author of all time is here! …Okay, maybe not, but hey, a man can dream. Before we get into it, let me just say—yes, I’m giving my own novel a 5-star rating. Why? Because if I don’t hype my own work, who will?Alright, enough chit-chat. Let’s talk about THE NOVEL.First things first—Where’s the MC?!Now, let me address the elephant in the room. If you’ve already started reading, you might be wondering,"Yo, where the hell is the main character? Did the author forget about him? Did he fall into a spatial crack?"Well, surprise! The MC doesn’t even appear until Chapter 20.I know, I know—it’s insane, unheard of, borderline criminal in male-oriented novels! But before you start throwing tomatoes, hear me out. There’s a reason for this madness. The first 10-15 chapters focus on world-building, setting the stage for something BIG. And no, I’m not just dragging it out to increase my chapter count (probably). Trust me, when you see how everything connects later, you’ll either think I’m a genius or just a really lucky writer who somehow made it work. Either way, stick around—you won’t regret it.Power System: Awakening + Cultivation = ???Now, let’s talk about the power system. I know what you’re thinking:"Wait, did this madman mix awakening and cultivation together?"Yes. Yes, I did. Why? Because I wanted to try something new—something that breaks away from the usual cookie-cutter “awakening” stories. This is my grand experiment. Maybe it’ll be groundbreaking, or maybe it’ll be an absolute disaster. Either way, you’re in for a ride. So, the story starts with the usual Awakening scene. You know, the classic ceremony where people awaken their powers, some get OP talents, others get trash ones, yada yada…But hold up—don’t roll your eyes just yet.I know how cliché this setup is. I’ve read all those novels too. And I know exactly how boring it gets when you can predict every single thing that’s about to happen. That’s why I’m telling you right now—this is NOT your typical Awakener story.Sure, the beginning might look familiar, but trust me, I have some serious twists planned. Just give me a little time to work my magic, and you’ll see how everything transforms into something completely different. So, just bear with me for a bit. I promise you—this won’t be the same old Awakening story you’ve seen a hundred times before. It’s going somewhere unexpected.Villains? Oh, You’re Not Ready. Now, about the villains… I won’t say much, because where’s the fun in spoiling the surprises? But here’s what I will tell you:These aren’t your typical “evil young masters” or “generic demon lords.” Some of them can stand toe-to-toe with the MC, and some are even worse. And the best part? They’re not all Awakeners. That’s right—something much worse lurks in the shadows. Who are they? What do they want? You’ll have to read to find out.The MC—Overpowered, but Not a Brain-Dead Battle ManiacSo, about our dear protagonist. Yes, he’s strong. No, he’s not invincible. He’s not the type who runs around smashing anyone who dares look at him funny or starting fights because someone underestimated him. No, my MC has a brain, and he actually uses it.Think of him as a patient, calculative monster—the kind of guy who doesn’t waste time flexing his strength on nobodies but will silently set up checkmate before his enemies even realize they’re playing his game. And here’s another plus: the people around him aren’t idiots either. No brain-dead sidekicks, no walking plot devices, just actual smart and capable characters who can stand on their own. Because let’s be real—nothing ruins a good story faster than an overpowered MC surrounded by a bunch of walking potatoes.Let’s Talk About Romance—No 300-Chapter Hug Marathon!Alright, let’s get one thing straight—the romance in this novel isn’t the "Wait 300 chapters for a single hug" type. Nope, we’re not playing that game here. But at the same time, it’s also not the "Wow, I just met you, let’s get married" kind of nonsense either. You won’t see the MC and a female lead locking eyes and instantly declaring eternal love like they’re in some cheesy romance drama. So, what kind of romance is it?It’s slow, but not painfully slow—more like a steady, natural progression where feelings develop over time, but things actually move forward instead of dragging forever. And let me be clear—the female leads are no pushovers. They’re not the kind to stand around waiting for the MC to save them every five chapters. They can stand on their own, fight their own battles, and make their own decisions. In short, they’re not just there to be damsels in distress or decoration for the MC’s journey. So, if you’re tired of the usual "romance that never progresses" or "female lead who exists only to be rescued," then don’t worry—this one’s got some real character development. What Makes This Novel Different?Alright, let’s be real—I’m not here to tell you this is the best novel ever written or that it’s going to revolutionize the web novel industry. But what I can promise you is this:This will be one of the weirdest novels you’ve ever read. Now, let’s break it down:✅ MC introduction happens in Chapter 20. Yeah, I know, it’s insane. Who does that in a male-oriented novel? Me, apparently. But trust me, there’s a reason. A good one. (Probably.)✅ A mix of Awakening & Cultivation power systems. Why choose one when you can have both? It’s experimental, it’s messy, but hey, that’s part of the fun.✅ The MC is overpowered—but not in a "one-punch and done" way. He’s strong, yes, but he doesn’t just go around slapping everyone who underestimates him. He has brains, strategy, and patience. He’s not the type to throw hands over an insult, but when he does fight… well, let’s just say things get messy.✅ Side characters and villains have brains. No dumb minions, no "evil for the sake of being evil" villains. Some of them might even be able to go toe-to-toe with the MC or even above MC. ✅ Romance starts early. No 300-chapter waiting game. But also not a rushed “love at first sight” situation either. It’s slow but steady, and the female leads? They can actually fight. No "MC, save me!" moments every five chapters.✅ The system isn’t just a cheat code for the MC. It plays a much bigger role than just handing out power-ups. And no, the MC isn’t the only one with access to it.✅ Psychological depth. Yeah, I attempted to add some deep, thought-provoking elements. Let’s see how that plays out.✅ This novel has a bit of EVERYTHING. Action, mystery, strategy, power struggles, romance, world-building—basically, if you like variety, you’re in for a ride. The Verdict? This novel might not be your favorite or the best thing you’ve ever read, but if you’re looking for something different—something that breaks away from the usual clichés—then give it a shot.I guarantee one thing: It will entertain you.And if nothing else… at least you can say you’ve read the weirdest novel out there.
This book has a wonderful World building clench that just hooks you right into it. My favorite character—Ara. Highly recommended.
A fantastic novel. I find it quite funny.
As the author mentioned this story is indeed dark and mysterious. The ML is overbearing and annoying most of the time, Couldn’t understand why he is the way he is. FL is strong in her own way and wouldn’t give up fighting for freedom. Let’s find out what’s in store for these couple. Love ❤️ the story development, setting and story telling. Highly recommend!
More, More, More charters'sI hope there will be r18 chapters and many! I'm waiting for reverse rape ?
