I need to talk about Liu Xinrou because this girl is the kind of villain you love to hate. The fake tears, the 'how could you do this to our family' performance — she's so transparently malicious that it's almost impressive. And Yin Youyue seeing right through her in literally three seconds? Satisfying. But let's be real — the real villain here is Bai Ruyan. The aunt who supposedly took Yin Youyue in 'like her own daughter' while systematically destroying her reputation. The fact that she immediately orders the mysterious man to be beaten to death when caught? That's not just cruel, that's sociopathic. And her dismissing Liu Xinrou's miscarriage as 'madness'? Cold. So cold. Yin Youyue herself is fascinating. She's not just smart — she's a 21st-century Mystic Physician who can diagnose pregnancy from a single glance. Her medical knowledge becomes her weapon. When she says 'taking a male consort is hardly a matter for concern,' she's not just being rebellious, she's using the world's own hypocritical logic against them. The Fifth Princess keeps ten male pets and nobody bats an eye, but a woman in her position gets locked in an ancestral hall? The double standards are glaring. And Xing Moyuan... the man who was literally unconscious while all this happened, and now he's the most powerful person in the room. The power dynamic here is delicious. He called himself a 'male pet' and now he's probably plotting something. I can't wait to see what happens when they meet again.
I need to talk about Gu Congyun's speech because it is genuinely one of the most powerful fatherly declarations I've read in a while. Let me quote it: 'Whatever the Gu family has, Ruanci will have as well. My wife, our sons, and I will protect Ruanci with our lives.' This man is a border general—someone who spent years away from his daughter—and he doesn't just accept her, he publicly, fiercely claims her in front of the entire court. And Zhuang Hefeng beside him, supporting every word. The contrast with the Zhou family is brutal. Ye Lanxin is over there performing fake concern—'Sister has returned? Then I must personally go and apologize to her'—while the Gu parents are offering unconditional love and protection. Even Gu Yuxuan's character shines here. He's this adorable younger brother who makes bets with his sister and then immediately feels guilty about it, saying 'Losing face once is less terrible than breaking trust.' He's genuinely good-hearted. Meanwhile Zhou Yuxiu just says 'A mother's kindness begets a son's filial piety. Grandmother was right—she doesn't deserve it.' The Zhou family is so rotten inside and out.
The atmosphere in these chapters is just *thick*. You can practically feel the June heat making everyone sweaty and irritable, except for Song Zhimian who sits there cool as a cucumber. The contrast between the opulent setting — the Taiping Houkui tea, the imperially bestowed plaque, the storerooms full of silk and jade — and the rot underneath is really well done. I keep coming back to that one image: Madame Ding breaking into a cold sweat 'even in the heat of June.' That's such a good detail because it tells you everything about her psychological state. The physical environment mirrors the emotional temperature of the scene. And then there's the storeroom sequence — Madame Ding and Fan Shaoshi disappearing in there for half an hour, returning with Madame Ding 'pale' and Fan Shaoshi 'revealing nothing.' The tension of that waiting period, the silence from the other room, the growing restlessness of Song Kaishan — it's all built so carefully. The marquis mansion itself feels like a character. It's a place where dowries disappear, where coffins get borrowed and never returned, where silver vanishes from account books. The fact that they could barely find fifteen thousand taels when the dowry was supposedly worth a hundred thousand tells you everything about the financial rot at the heart of this household. And the imperial plaque — that golden rectangle of authority hanging in Song Zhimian's courtyard — is such a powerful visual symbol. It's literally the Emperor's word making her untouchable, and the text makes you feel its weight every time it's mentioned. The scene where Song Zhimian asks about moving the plaque to her courtyard is perfect. 'Father, that official Wen just said this plaque was bestowed upon me by His Majesty. Does that mean I should move it to my courtyard?' She's not just asking about furniture placement — she's reminding everyone, in the most casual tone possible, who now holds the power.
Let me just talk about one specific image from these chapters because it's been stuck in my head: 'Looking at the wedding gown on the floor blending into the pool of blood, her eyes stung with unbearable pain.' That's it. That's the entire scene. A wedding gown. Blood. A woman on the floor who can't even cry anymore. The author doesn't need a paragraph of description — two sentences and I'm seeing the whole thing in my head like a film frame. But the worldbuilding throughout these chapters is also remarkably rich. Let me walk through it: The General's Residence surrounded by soldiers — 'not a drop of water could leak out.' That's a visual that tells you everything about Feng Buji's power. He doesn't need an army to siege a residence; he brings one. The crowd of onlookers whispering and pointing — this gives the story a public square energy, like everything is happening in full view of society. The rumors, the gossip, the spectacle. Xiao Mingyue's downfall is public entertainment. Feng Buji's residence with its dungeon — 'dim light filtered down through a narrow ventilation shaft.' The contrast between the bright, public confrontation and the dark, private imprisonment shows us two worlds: the world of appearances and the world of truth. And the river scene — flying kites, embracing, cheerful — this is almost grotesque in its normalcy. While Xiao Mingyue's father is in an imperial dungeon, this couple is flying kites. The juxtaposition is horrifying. The world feels alive because every location has emotional weight. The training grounds where they first met. The General's Residence where armies face off. The dungeon where truth is hidden. The river where betrayal plays out in sunlight. Each setting is a character in itself.
I enjoyed the first chapter of this fantasy novel? The author did a great job of introducing the world and characters. I liked the pacing and the writing style. My only wish is that the chapter had ended with a bit more of a hook to keep me eagerly anticipating the next part. Still, I'm curious to see where the story goes from here and I'm looking forward to reading more.?
I have to say, this opening scene is incredibly good. The fight scene is truly crafted like a high-quality artpiece. And the author mentioned r18 or something, hehehe. The plot is interesting, char design is unique and likeable. Writing quality = best! This is going to be epic, 100% recommended!
The book is a pretty good one, iam a very old fan of web novels but I still haven't read such a op character development . This book is really worth reading for all the webnovel fans. Especially in its genre which is game. The plot and system is also pretty good.

I thought it was great. Actually, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! It's just the beginning, I know, but the author does an excellent job with visualization. Plus, the story itself is intriguing. Please, Author, give us longer chapters. That's all I ask.
I liked her books in other reading apps but I never read this book. I hope it’s good! Love the writing style.
Interesting world building, and amazing character design.
