There's a lot happening beneath the surface in these chapters and I can't stop thinking about the symbolism. The herbs themselves are a perfect metaphor—Su He takes something ordinary (wild-growing plants) and through her hidden power transforms them into something valuable. That's essentially her entire arc: she's in a harsh, poor environment and she's finding ways to make life better through quiet, almost invisible means. The rouge Xiao Zheng buys her is equally symbolic. It's peach-pink, soft, beautiful under the setting sun—a splash of color and delicacy in a world that's all dust and survival. He gives it to her not as frivolity but as preparation for their wedding, as something she'll need. There's a tenderness in that framing. And then there's the money—the three taels and six mace that completely upends Xiao Zheng's sense of himself as a provider. The story is quietly asking: what does it mean to be a man in a relationship where the woman can out-earn you? Xiao Zheng's answer isn't to belittle her; it's to resolve to try harder. That's a surprisingly progressive take for what appears to be a historical setting. The encounter with Shen Feng and Su Lan reinforces this theme too—they're obsessed with appearances (bargaining over a cheap veil while Su Lan wears secondhand clothes), while Su He is focused on substance (buying practical fabric for her whole family, choosing durable wedding clothes she can actually work in). The story keeps contrasting performative status with genuine care.
"I've loved snow since I was a child. But now—I love it even more." "Because of love, even its shadows are dear." I read that exchange five times. FIVE TIMES. And I'm still not over it. Let's talk about Bingyou for a second, because this guy is doing something remarkable here. The text literally says: "He had lived alone for ages, calm and unruffled, without joy or sorrow." Then Mu Shuiqi shows up and he starts "tasting the subtle flavor of joy." He doesn't even realize he's doing it. He just silently eats the osmanthus cake she brought and feels something he hasn't felt in over a thousand years. And then there's the moment when she says "Because of love, even its shadows are dear" and his expression "faltered slightly." He knew. He knew exactly what she meant, and he couldn't—or wouldn't—respond to it. That silence speaks louder than any confession ever could. But here's what kills me: when Luoying arrives, Bingyou immediately suggests she leave. Is he genuinely trying to help her go home? Or is he panicking because he just realized he doesn't want her to go, and the goddess's arrival gave him an excuse to push her away before he could mess this up? The text says: "He turned his head toward the left front side of the Yunzhong Pavilion" when she said that line. He looked away. He couldn't meet her eyes after that. And Yi Yao—poor clueless Yi Yao—screams "Of course Lord Ying wants you to return!" as if it's obvious. But it's not obvious to anyone except Yi Yao, who only gets it because he's watched his lord change since Mu Shuiqi appeared. The relationship between these three is so beautifully messy. Bingyou pretends calm, Mu Shuiqi pretends indifference, and Yi Yao pretends not to notice anything at all. Meanwhile Chou Chou is just floating around going "You talk too much. Eat." The snake demon is the only one being honest.

This is a fun read so far. I'll get back to it when I have the coins to spare. The MC make decent choices and the family seems like an excellent group, no rivalry the gets boring. Character growth is don't well and the mystery is engaging.
Actual masterpiece ?? Seriously this book is veryyyy good and i would highly recommand it as i was highly and very well surprised by it ! Gibe it a try !

The story revolves around Professor Hank, who's searching for his missing loved one, Vanya. He's shocked to discover that Vanya's soul may be tied to a virgin named Jane, which contradicts the rules of Vanya's kind. Professor Hank is torn between his loyalty to Vanya and his growing feelings for Jane, who's now in danger. The narrative is rich in emotional tension, with a complex mythology and moral dilemmas.Enjoying it so far.
This is a very unexpected but very good novel recommend
Here is my review about Maiden Houdini:Worldbuilding: The worldbuilding is quite blend between magic and modern world which is I think it's quite alright. However, I do like the antagonistic group treated Maiden Houdini as the threat here which is quite nice direction. My suggestion is to flesh out the world more to make it more interesting.Characters: For me the characters here are enjoyayable especially with the main Character, Maiden Houdini. I liked Madame Houdini as a character as she has a quite charisma and quite a good escape artist too with using her tricks and wits. For other characters, I think they are okay for now, just needed to flesh out them more. Writing: I like the writing of this world with a detailed description about the world and the character attire. I also the action scene in this book which is quick, but still quite okay to be follow.Overall, this is a nice book to read and I would recommend it
Overall: Great book keep going, the story was interesting to make push through despite the cons, unfortunately it seems to have gone on hiatusOkay, here the cons and some tips (more for improvement rather than anything else):- Use past tense, instead of present.- too much description, that sound robotic- this relates to the last point, but: too much philosophical description, adding some here and there is good, but not every action needs to be described like that (use it rarely and wisely) Exmp: "He held the pill..." not"he held the pill in his hand it's weight signifying his only lifeline in this harsh reality, as it acted as a strong reminder of the cruelty of the world.."This is more of a tip, but I think you should get a better cover (I am happy to help if you don't know how)Anyway, good luck and hopefully you come back soon.
So exciting to this to start, I know the story will be fire
