Okay I need to discuss the dialogue in this book because it is SO good and I have thoughts. First, let's talk about Xie Xixiao's voice. When he speaks, it's always measured, precise, and layered with meaning. His first line to Hu Shen is just "Miss Tuoba"—two words that tell us everything we need to know about who he is. He recognizes her status immediately, he addresses her with formal courtesy, and there's something almost predatory in the way he observes her. Later, when he asks "Is this… sheep?" and then follows up with "Is it… Two-legged Sheep?"—this is such a brilliant moment. He's testing her, probing for information, and simultaneously making a dark joke about the cannibalism happening outside. The fact that he can make this kind of dark, layered dialogue while chained to a wooden frame and barely alive shows exactly what kind of person he is. Hu Shen's dialogue is different—more practical, more direct, and often internally contradictory. She says very little to Xie Xixiao, but when she does speak, it's usually deflection or observation. "I don't like eating people either" is such a perfect line. It's honest, slightly awkward, and completely disarms the tension in the scene. She's not trying to be cruel or manipulative; she's just stating a fact, and that honesty makes her more trustworthy in his eyes. The narrative voice is also fantastic. The author writes with a tone that's simultaneously cold and warm, detached and deeply empathetic. When describing Hu Shen's thoughts about her own fate, the prose is matter-of-fact about her being destined to "sire cubs," but there's an undercurrent of sadness and resignation that makes the reader feel the weight of her situation. And that author's note at the end? "You fed me like a sheep. I'm going to humiliate you thoroughly. From now on, I must feed you every single bite of food you eat!" This single exchange tells us everything about how their relationship will evolve. The power dynamic flips, the intimacy remains, and Xie Xixiao's voice—demanding, possessive, yet strangely tender—shines through in just a few lines. The dialogue throughout is natural, distinctive for each character, and always serves the story. I'm genuinely impressed.
Okay so this whole rumor arc is actually really well constructed. Let me break it down because it's one of those plot moves where everything lines up perfectly. It starts with Zhao Chengshuang declaring to the entire village that Bai Qianqian must have sold Zhao Anyao. The framing is brilliant — she's not just making an accusation, she's framing it as a moral crime that would damage the entire Zhao clan's reputation for future marriages. That's what makes it escalate so fast. The clan elders show up ready to drag Bai Qianqian to justice, and for a moment it actually feels like she's trapped. But then — and this is the part that made me slap the table — Bai Qianqian doesn't just deny it. She weaponizes the situation. She plays the victim so perfectly: "We're just a widow and an orphan — who have we ever offended?" She turns the accusation back on the Zhao family, reminding everyone that they tried to sell HER into a ghost marriage first. The elders are now the ones with blood on their hands, and she knows it. The reversal doesn't stop there. When Old Madam Zhao tries to save face by claiming Chengshuang sewed shoes for Anyao, the shoes turn out to belong to Zhao Anyang — Chengshuang's own brother. The family's own greed and hypocrisy unravel in real time. Every lie they tell just digs them deeper. What I love about the structure is that the author never lets the tension drop. Just when Bai Qianqian wins the confrontation, we cut to her struggling to find anyone to repair her roof because her reputation is so poisoned. The plot keeps raising new stakes even as old ones resolve. That's skilled pacing.
I need to be honest with you guys—I completely did not expect to be emotionally destroyed by a ghost child in a web novel. But Gao Yueyuan. Oh my god. She's five years old, she's been kidnapped, murdered, and her soul is trapped in a heart formation, and her very first concern when she's finally freed is whether her parents will keep looking for her. "My mother isn't in good health, so even if I have to go, I should at least let her be at peace." This kid is dying to get to the afterlife and all she wants is to say goodbye to her mom. And Wen Ling—who literally just wanted to open the Gate of Rebirth and send everyone on their way—stops. She listens. She makes a wooden plaque so the little girl's soul has somewhere comfortable to rest. She goes along with this whole quest to find Gao Yueyuan's parents. And the funniest, saddest part is that Gao Yueyuan tries to bribe her with money the whole time. "My family has money, plenty of it. I'll tell my parents to reward you generously!" This child is offering payment for emotional labor while being the most genuinely sweet person in the scene. Wen Ling's eyes shining with greed while claiming she's doing it out of kindness—Ting Yin's deadpan observation—that's the comedic surface. But underneath it all, there's this incredibly tender moment between a woman who doesn't want children and a ghost child who just wants her mom to know she's okay. I'm not crying, you're crying.

This novel is good but there are a lot of mistakes in the characters Silas eyes are supposed to be green but they changed to golden brown also Margaret's eyes changed from gray to blue same thing with the hair colors of some characters also Laila's elemental convergence at first it was wind then it became earth then the author said it was earth and wind and in the virtual reality fight she was attacking other students using earth and water there are problems in describing events and abilities what is supposed to mean golden lightning with black fog or in the Physical Assessment when MC's lightning changed from golden to blue then it was described as golden with blue inside it this is a mess in the description does the author use AI in writing the novel I don't want to sound like someone who focuses on the negative side. The author is new and is supposed to accept criticism. This will help him improve and make the novel more enjoyable. I would like to say that the novel is good, but I hope that the author corrects the mistakes in the future.
