I have to talk about the dialogue in this chapter because it's honestly one of the strongest elements. The author doesn't waste words on characters — every line reveals something about who they are and what they want. Let's start with Su Nian and Xingxing. Their exchanges are short, practical, and heartbreaking because of what's left unsaid. When Xingxing asks "Mom, when will we get there?" and she replies "Soon. We'll arrive tomorrow," that's a mother lying to protect her child. The dialogue is simple but it carries so much weight. And when he asks "How much longer is tomorrow?" — that line just broke me. A seven-year-old trying to understand abstract concepts of time while the world ends around them. But the real dialogue showcase is the confrontation with the three men. Each one has a distinct voice. The tall man starts with fake politeness: "Don't be afraid. We're not bad people. We're just passing by and hoping to catch a ride." Classic predator language — trying to normalize the situation, making it sound like a casual request. When that doesn't work, he drops the act: "Miss, this is the last time I'm asking. Open the door. We don't want your life. We only want the truck." The heavyset man is the most blunt: "Why waste time talking to her? Smash the window and drag her out." No pretense, just aggression. And the skinny guy? He's the weak link, the one who "instinctively took half a step back" and dropped the torch in fear. You can feel his cowardice in every action. Su Nian's dialogue is minimal but powerful. "Don't smash it. I'll come out." Then later: "You can have the truck. But for the sake of my child, could you leave us the supplies?" She's bargaining, trying to save something for Xingxing even as she puts herself in danger. And after she reveals the machete? She doesn't say a word. Just stands there with blood dripping from the blade. Sometimes silence is the most powerful dialogue.

The story line did not depict tragedy though full of action and suspense yet humourous

A good story with a very interesting world to explore and an engaging plot that keeps you hooked. Without a doubt a story that will be wonderful to follow.
all the female lead character does is blush at everything the main character saysi don't think there's any character development in this novel at allits mind numbing

seeing this book and passing by shouldn't be an option, this is by ft one of the best Novel I've read good luck there, I hope the quality doesn't diminish over time
