The fact that there's a public announcement venue, that people gather at nearby restaurants to wait, that servants run ahead to check the lists — it paints a picture of a society where the imperial examination is a genuine cultural event, not just a plot device. The private rooms being full shows how important this is to the characters' social world. Then there's the contrast with the earlier attack scene. Qiao Shuang's wound, the blood on Qiao Yu's face, the men in black — these are visceral, dangerous spaces. The restaurant is bright, social, full of chatter and anticipation. The author moves between these atmospheres smoothly, which keeps the world feeling lived-in rather than just a backdrop for plot events. The world has texture.

Honest review, first chapter will already tangle you by lady Lucinda to hit the next chapter. The interaction of mother and child (Theodore) was priceless, she'll do anything for his son and he'll do anything for his mother. I also like how the author imagine the dance party, it really caught me to seat in front and watch Lucinda and his dance partner together. (i thought at first they know each other ?). Anyway the update stability is also perfect! World background can be created with story development so there's no problem with that. Aaaand that's it! I totally recommend this novel. Happy readers, happy author. ??❤️
