Okay so I need to talk about Wangyou because this character is EVERYTHING and I am already obsessed. Let me back up though—Chen Zhiwei finds this guy half-dead in the woods, bleeding and poisoned, and despite every rational instinct screaming at her to walk away, she saves him. And then what does she do? She gives him a NAME. She looks into those completely empty, childlike eyes and says 'I'll call you Wangyou—Forget Worries.' Just like that, she's rewriting his entire existence. That moment hit me so hard because it's not just about giving someone a name, it's about giving someone a future free from whatever nightmare happened to him before. And then the sibling dynamics? Chen Zhiyi is such a complicated character. On one hand he's genuinely protective—remember how he clenched his bowl so hard he almost crushed it when his sister wasn't home? He's angry at his own helplessness but channels it into studying, into becoming someone who can actually support her. But then Wangyou shows up and suddenly Zhiyi is FUMING. Not because he's mean, but because this tall, handsome stranger is taking his sister's attention. The scene where he calls Wangyou a 'big dummy' and then storms off after getting a 'sweet bomb' from his sister? That's not jealousy, that's a kid who's been carrying too much responsibility for too long and just wants to be the center of his sister's world again. But the real gem here is Wangyou himself. He's not just a plot device—he's genuinely naive in a way that feels authentic. When the villagers surround him, calling him names and throwing dirt, he doesn't fight back aggressively. He curls up and cries 'Sis… scared…' That's not weakness, that's a person who has never had anyone to protect them until Chen Zhiwei. His dependence on her is almost shadow-like, following her everywhere like a loyal dog. And yet—there's something deeply moving about that trust. In a world that's been cruel to him, she became his entire universe. I'm also noticing how the author sets up this triangle of protection. Chen Zhiwei protects Wangyou, Zhiyi protects Chen Zhiwei (in his own awkward way), and the village women like Liao Jinfeng are trying to destroy both of them. It's a beautiful, tragic inversion of family bonds.
The way this author describes Shanghai is what really got me. It's not the glossy, neon-soaked version you see in movies. It's the version with quiet alleys hidden in the bustling city center, one-way streets where old standalone villas sit with ivy-covered walls, and art supply stores that are even less noticeable than the grocery next door. There's this one moment when Shen Simo enters Lu HuaiChuan's studio and the author just stops everything to describe the light: 'a massive crystal chandelier hung from the nearly three-story-high ceiling, refracting the sunset streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows and bathing the entire living room in a golden glow.' I literally stopped reading and just stared at my screen because I could SEE it. And then immediately after, she walks into the storage room—a spotless, almost museum-like space where canvases are arranged by size and paints organized by packaging color—and she feels like her presence would disrupt the room's aesthetic. That contrast between the golden, almost cathedral-like living space and the clinical precision of the storage room tells you everything about Lu HuaiChuan without a single line of exposition. He lives in beauty but controls chaos through order. The art supply store scene with the auntie and her daughter is another gem—the cramped interior, the hot water in paper cups, the casual assumption that Shen Simo is Lu HuaiChuan's girlfriend. It's a world that feels lived-in and real, not some romanticized backdrop. Shanghai here is both a cage and a playground, and every location Shen Simo moves through reflects her internal state.
I need to talk about He Yuting for a second because this girl is carrying so much and the author gives her exactly three lines to do it and each one hits like a truck. 'Auntie almost died.' That's it. That's the whole emotional weight of a nine-year-old girl who watched the only adult she has left nearly suffocate in a cabinet, and she says it while walking home carrying a wooden bucket on her shoulder. No drama. No melodrama. Just a statement of fact that contains an ocean of fear. And then He Yuxiang's response—'She was lying'—followed immediately by his secret plan to cook hidden greens for his sister. He doesn't comfort her with words. He comforts her with food. That's the language of kids who have learned that love means keeping each other alive. The scene where He Yuting clamps her hand over her mouth to stifle her sobs because she's terrified her aunt will disappear if she makes too much noise? I actually felt physical pain reading that. This is a child who has been punished for expressing emotion and now she's modulating her grief to fit inside someone else's capacity to handle it. And Chen Qing, who is basically a stranger to them, feels guilt just watching this. She draws the girl into her arms and pats her back. It's the first genuine moment of warmth between them and it's earned because Chen Qing recognizes herself in He Yuting's performance of compliance. The emotional core of this whole story isn't romance or revenge. It's two people who've learned to survive alone discovering that survival is easier when you're not alone.
I need to talk about this CP energy because WOW. The Slit-Mouthed Fiend—this absolute nightmare creature who gouges out eyes for lying—gets FLUSTERED by a compliment. Like, Xia Miao starts listing off all the things she finds attractive about him (his fingers, his waistline, his LEGS, his PALE SKIN) and this guy who has never experienced anything remotely kind in his existence just... melts. The text literally says his ears burned and he ended up smearing blood all over his bandages while trying to cool his face down. I was SCREAMING. And then the reverse happens when SHE gets dumped by the shadow boy and she's like "THE first person I ever liked is a PERVERT" and runs away clutching her "shattered maiden heart." The role reversal is everything. One moment she's the confident pursuer, the next she's the one whose heart is broken. Meanwhile the bandaged boy is having an absolute meltdown: "What gives her the right to unilaterally decide she's done dating me?!" This is the most chaotic romance setup I've ever encountered and I am OBSESSED. The tension between these two monsters-and-survivor dynamics is going to be absolutely electric.
I love your novel. I am the mentor of Spider-Man. You said you would create Part 2, 'I Am the Mentor of Marvel Spider-Man.' I’ll be waiting for that. But anyway, this new novel plot about a guy in the world of basketball seems new to me, so I rate this a 5 for now
This seems to be a unique story, different from other repetitive stories.
the review is based on authors sense of humour, very good cover, and author who is high on dr-ahem adrenaline while writing. I hope to see the fast paced action in this one, but also hope author slow down occassionally, so that mc can catch his breath. but again, he is owner and he can decide.
Wow...this is good, and gets very good over time!Queen Caroline and King Casimir - Frost and Fire!Love the progress between but there's a lot of trust our king needs to build to convince the frozen Queen. The other character are interesting too...and do build a slow-burn tension! Every trap and political manoeuver makes it more interesting...Keep writing!
Its really hateful reading a story like this. Im not excited anymore. Its not good having fl nd ml so cold and both liar to each other. It is better to forget and get another novel instead of this. Author has to balance the story instead of prolonging the agony. Three years! My goodness. What a dull life it is.
