I need to talk about how this author handles pacing because honestly it's masterful. Let me break it down. Chapter 4 starts with Song Zhiyi arriving at Beiqiao Village, and within the first few paragraphs we get exposition about her past life—the abuse, the neglect, the death of her child. But it's not dumped on us in one massive info-dump. It's woven into her thoughts as she walks, and it hits different because we're experiencing it through her present-moment anger. She's not just remembering; she's rehearsing her revenge. That's efficient storytelling right there. Then we cut to the Xie family preparing for the wedding. Xu Lan's dialogue here is short but devastating: "Look how much effort you're putting in—just going through the motions is enough. The Song family is so desperate to marry off this daughter, they're practically begging us to take her." One line from the mother-in-law and we understand the entire power dynamic. The author doesn't need ten pages of explanation. The wedding-day confrontation is where the pacing really shines. Song Zhiyi arrives, demands the engagement be called off, Xie Xingwen says NO, she's bewildered, he tells her to come to the military unit, she plays along, leaves a note, calls the military organization, and by the time we finish that chapter she's already on a train. That's a lot of plot for one chapter and none of it feels rushed. Each beat serves a purpose. Chapter 5 opens with the Xie family discovering the empty guesthouse and the note. The reaction is immediate and chaotic—relatives screaming about "marriage fraud," the mother-in-law lashing out. This is the comedic relief section that also advances the plot because now the Xie family is coming after the Song family, which is exactly what Song Zhiyi wants. She's setting traps and watching them walk into them. Then Xie Xingwen calls Ma. The conversation is brief but does triple duty: it shows Xie Xingwen's strategic mind, it reveals that the military organization is a character in its own right (Ma is basically a gatekeeper figure), and it sets up the next phase of the conflict. The application is reactivated, meaning Song Zhiyi's attempt to escape the marriage has technically failed—but she's already on a train to Bai City anyway. The tension is delicious. The train scene at the end is a classic cliffhanger setup. An elderly man collapses, someone calls for a doctor, and Song Zhiyi—despite not being licensed—steps up because she knows acupuncture. The chapter cuts off right as she's about to examine him. I literally gasped. The author knows exactly how to hook readers. My only minor complaint: the transition between Song Zhiyi leaving the Song household and arriving at Beiqiao Village is a bit abrupt. A sentence or two of travel time would've smoothed it. But honestly, in a web novel format, this kind of speed is probably intentional. The story moves like a freight train and I am HERE for it.
Meng Ting. Oh my god, Meng Ting. Let me just say this: out of EVERY person in this entire novel, he's the one Gu Ningxi actually trusts. Not her clansmen who share her surname. Not her mother's family she just reunited with. Her COUSIN. And the way the author writes their interactions — it's so natural, so easy. She pours him tea. He explains military strategy to her like she's not some low-ranking official but someone whose opinion matters. When she zones out thinking about Prince Zhao, he notices immediately and asks what's wrong. "In front of her cousin, Gu Ningxi never felt the need to hide much." That line hit me. That's not just worldbuilding, that's CHARACTER. It tells us everything about how isolated she is and how rare genuine connection is for her. But here's what's eating at me: Meng Ting's courtesy name is MINGXUAN. And Prince Zhao called him that in Gu Ningxi's DREAM. Dream. The author is planting seeds here, I can feel it. There's something connecting these three people that goes beyond logic, and I am HERE for it.
I need to talk about Xu Huai'an because this character is DANGEROUS. The text literally compares him to a big bad wolf and Xie Wenxing to a rabbit, and I'm here for it. When he catches Xie Wenxing following him, he doesn't get angry - he gets AMUSED. He toys with him, watches him panic, enjoys the fact that this boy is falling apart in front of him. And yet... he also seems to genuinely like these interactions. The text says the breeze felt softer after Xie Wenxing ran away, and that his irritation was carried away just a little by him. Meanwhile Xie Wenxing is over here having full panic attacks. He bumps his forehead against a tree trying to compose himself. He can't form coherent sentences. He screams to escape. This boy is so desperately in love it physically hurts him, and he has no idea how to handle it. But then you have Xu Huai'an with his father, and the contrast is staggering. With Xie Wenxing he's playful, teasing, almost gentle. With his father he's pure ice. The scene where he tells his father about his mother is delivered in such a casual tone - like he's discussing the weather. 'I had someone look into it. She's with a younger man now, living it up.' And then he adds that she'll have given that man several sons by the time he gets out. This is a man who plans ahead, who calculates, who strikes when it matters most. The dynamic between these two is going to be so complicated and I cannot wait.
I need to talk about this. I genuinely need to. The way these four brothers orbit around Li Tong like she's the only source of light in this entire collapsed world—it's devastating and beautiful all at once. Nan Qi rubbing the top of her head, Jiang Xun kissing her little hand, Xiong Ji stroking her hair while telling her not to overthink things. They're hardened mercenaries who've survived on betrayal and blood, but the moment they see her pouty mouth and red rabbit eyes, every single one of them drops everything to comfort her. "Be good, precious. Big Brother loves you..." That line hit me like a truck. He's trailing off, isn't he? Like he can't even finish the sentence because the emotion is too much. And Li Tong—she pretends to be dead, burying her face in his chest. She knows she's the reason they're in trouble. She overheard everything. The guilt is eating her alive and she won't even say it out loud. What kills me most is that none of them blame her. Not even a little. They're out there facing armed mercenaries, people who could actually hurt them, and their first concern is keeping her safe. Their determination to not form a team only GROWS stronger when they see her. She's their anchor, their reason to stay hardened and isolated. I'm not crying, you're crying. The sibling dynamic here is so tender it almost hurts. These are people who operate in a world where loyalty is rare and betrayal is a lifestyle, yet with her, they're soft. Genuinely, painfully soft. And she loves them so fiercely she'd rather suffer in silence than be the burden she thinks she is.
Great book, this is peak, from the synopsis to the first few chapters... more chapters please ❤️????
Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
Shameless Author Here:What to Expect:? A dark and gritty LITRPG with a structured progression system featuring unique skills, powerful classes, Orders, rituals, and ancient relics.? A world filled with political intrigue, warring factions, and betrayals at every turn.? Moral dilemmas, sins, and virtues—how far will one go for power?? Harem? Maybe. If readers want it, comment below.? Dark themes, but no non-consent. The protagonist may toe the line, but he won’t cross it.
Man, I love this book. I know it's a fanfic, but it relates to the story and has all the original characters, and their personalities aren't altered or anything. While reading this I felt drawn in and I couldn't stop because it was so good! It took me a while to get the mental compacity to realize I should leave a comment. I love the whole idea of Ying coming from another dimension to woe Saiki, but he actually falls in love.... ah! It really is too good. I just can't. I seriously am bouncing on my heels waiting for this to update!
Although the prologue is a bit too long for my taste, the story is pretty good. I have read many Novels that were more popular than this, but most of them had shorter Chaps and more errors in their writing.
Thought I would leave a review here for anyone that is interested in my novel and would like to ask me any questions about it and I would also like to give some disclaimers about what my novel will kind of be about. It won't have any harem because I don't like that stuff though it might have some romance in it depending on how I expand the story. The protagonist will have no qualms against killing other humans or sentient races like elves or dwarfs and will seem villianous and evil a lot of the time so just keep that in mind. Although Roman will constantly evolve he will never change from being something like a skeleton or at least undead and if you are reading this novel then genuinely thank you.
Nice novelThe descriptions are clear ? ☺️
