Okay, I need to talk about how this whole sequence just layers on top of each other like a really well-constructed puzzle. Su Mi finds the basement, disarms the traps, collects the treasure boxes—and THEN a wounded man climbs over the wall like he just appeared out of nowhere. The plot didn't even let me catch my breath before dropping another bombshell. The trap design itself was genuinely clever. A brick that looks like a floor tile, a button with tiny holes you'd never notice without psychic powers, three and a half turns of a wire, and poison-coated steel needles shooting out from both sides. Whoever built this place clearly wanted intruders DEAD. And Su Mi just... dismantled it all like she was opening a jar of pickles. The detail about tapping the floor tiles being useless because of the one-meter thickness was such a nice touch—it shows the author really thought through the logistics of this thing. But the real plot twist here is Lu Jun'an. A deputy regiment commander, shot four times, climbing over a wall while bleeding out? What kind of mission is that? The story drops this question and just... leaves it hanging. That's good plotting, honestly. It makes you want to keep reading to find out what happened to him, what mission nearly killed him, and how he and Su Mi are going to intersect now. The note she leaves him is also a brilliant narrative device. It does three things at once: it explains what happened, it teases their future meeting, and it gives us a glimpse of Su Mi's personality. The line about 'your wife is lucky' while she's clearly the one who saved him? Chef's kiss. Now Lu Jun'an wakes up confused, flustered, and completely in the dark—and we the readers are right there with him, wondering who this mysterious girl is. The plot is setting up this whole meet-cute-who-saved-whom dynamic and I am HERE for it.
Okay I need to talk about this plot maneuver because honestly it's one of those moments where I sat up straight and went 'oh she's playing 4D chess while everyone else is playing checkers.' The whole setup with Mei Qian orchestrating this counter-scheme against the Han family is beautifully layered. On the surface, the Han family is bullying the Mei family — stealing grain, causing trouble, trying to drag them out of the Chen family's protection. But then Mei Qian flips it: instead of just defending, she makes the whole convoy believe the Han family is a threat to EVERYONE. That line she drops — 'when the lips are gone, the teeth feel the cold' — is the key that unlocks the entire strategy. She's not just fighting the Han family; she's weaponizing paranoia and self-interest to turn the other refugee families against them. And the execution? Perfect. Han Shi going to Huang Shi and delivering that over-the-top performance, crying about three hundred catties of grain, making Huang Shi so greedy with information that she accidentally reveals the Han family's plans to her own son... it's a chain reaction of manipulation that's almost poetic. The Han family thinks they're the predators, but they've been played like a fiddle. What I love most is how the plot doesn't just resolve the immediate conflict — it shifts the entire power dynamic in the convoy. By the end of these chapters, the Mei family isn't the victim anymore; they're the ones controlling the narrative. But here's what keeps me up at night: what happens when the Han family realizes they've been outsmarted? Because that's going to escalate things, and I'm not sure the Mei family is ready for what comes next.
Okay so this chapter had me absolutely losing it over the convenience store scene. Like, Ji Heng just walks in with his whole entourage and Li Yang is standing there trying to act like he's the main character, and then Ji Heng just... exists. That's it. That's the power move. The guy didn't even have to say a word and Li Yang's already sweating. But then the real plot twist hits — Ji Heng offers them a spot in the team. Not because he's nice, obviously, but because he's calculating. Think about it: they're heading to B City, the journey isn't going to be quick, and more bodies means more protection. This isn't generosity, this is survival math. And Li Yang, bless his desperate heart, jumps at it without even hesitating. "What will you give in exchange?" — Lu Jingze asking this line is everything. He doesn't even pretend to be polite. And then Ji Heng just casually asks if Li Yang is an ability user, and suddenly the whole power dynamic shifts. Li Yang thought he was special being the only fire-type in his group, and then he sees the entire team are ability users including a TODDLER. The internal collapse is palpable. Then the hotel scene — Zhao Ximeng trying to flex his territory, charging a lodging fee like this is some medieval village. And Ji Heng just... pays it. Ten packs of instant noodles. Not even a fight. Well, except when Old Gu tries something and Cai Yan freezes him to the ground. Then Zhao Ximeng tries to play tough and gets absolutely wrecked. The way the other hotel residents turn on him afterward? Chef's kiss. Karma moves fast in this apocalypse. The plot is moving so smoothly here. Every conflict gets resolved but also opens new doors — Li Yang joining the team, the hotel situation, the growing rumors about Tian Le and Ji Heng. It's all connected.
The stakes in this chapter are operating on at least four different levels simultaneously and the author is juggling them like a pro. On the surface level, there's the workplace tension—Gong Hengye is having an awful day at the office, everyone is walking on eggshells, and Li Rui is caught in the crossfire. This is low stakes but it establishes the mood and makes the emotional beats hit harder by contrast. Then there's the interpersonal conflict between Gong Hengye and Wen Yue. He's angry at her for being fake, for putting on different faces depending on who's watching. She's scared of him, confused by him, and clearly developing feelings she doesn't know how to handle. The conflict here is that he pushes her away while simultaneously being unable to stop thinking about her. Every time he tries to be cruel, he ends up doing something caring—letting her stay in the office, rushing back in the storm. The tension comes from not knowing which version of him she'll get next. The supernatural stakes are creeping in too. Gong Hengye has these visions, this sense that the plot is developing "in a direction beyond his control." He's aware, on some level, that he's in a novel and that his feelings for Wen Yue might be scripted. But the more he tries to rationalize it—the more he insists "how could she be my white moonlight?"—the more his actions betray him. The conflict between his rational mind and his emotional responses is the engine driving the whole story. And underneath everything is the deepest, most painful stake: Wen Yue is dead. Cheng Yong'an says it plainly: "the chances of her coming back to life are practically zero." But she's right there. She's breathing (or whatever ghosts do), talking, crying, hiding on sofas during thunderstorms. The question isn't whether she'll come back to life—it's whether Gong Hengye can accept that she's gone while still loving her. Or whether the story is building toward something even more impossible. The suspense here isn't about plot twists; it's about emotional devastation. Every tender moment is shadowed by the fact that she's a ghost, and that makes every touch, every glance, every "where exactly am I fierce?" ache with unbearable weight.
I am literally addicted to read this, I was just bored and scrolling found this just read and read and got interested in it and forgot I have to lots of work . Really worth it
Liked the free chapters, it’s worth a read i guess. It’s not something unique, but it feels like author has put some thought behind the novel, and didn’t just go “let’s write a dungeon novel” well that’s what I feel. And I think that it makes a difference. Also good job coldtir0. And good luck for the future.
Wow amazing and interesting I recommend this novel to you
The plot has potential, the history and character development are acceptable but the writing/spelling quality is very low as English is not author’s native tongue. This story (and author) would greatly benefit from the use of a translator/editor or even spell check.
So far love everything about the novel if it keeps going like that i might make this my favorite leaving my reveiw............. ........... Hope you don't drop this novel author
it's a unique storyline, characters the chapters, keep up the good work, It'll have potential.
I didn’t read it but I have to know he was a dude in the last life is his now her romantic partner going to be a dude
It had quite an interesting introduction, and had a pretty big plot twist…the description is also really good and the characters feel real. Although the mc gives me strange and eerie vibes, I can tell that this can become a really popular novel
