The protagonist. At seven years old in the prologue, he was the sole survivor of an imperial family massacre at Qinghu Mountain, ordered by Xiao Bin. Rescued by Pei Nai, he grew up under the protection of his uncle Gu Jinheng. Over three years he witnessed power struggles. In the twenty-fourth year of Zhengkang, after the emperor died and the crown prince was assassinated, Xiao Yi ascended the throne and changed the era name to Chongde. Ten years later (Chongde ninth year), he is the reigning emperor. He is described as having been the one Pei Nai deemed worth saving among the Xiao family.
