The eldest son of Chang Jinhua. He passed the imperial examination at age ten but has failed three times since. He was originally supposed to marry Yang Bao'er but the engagement was broken when Yang Bao'er married into another family. He is described as proud and arrogant, and has become heartbroken and gloomy after failing the exams and losing his fiancé.
