A former geological survey expert who was politically denounced and fell into ruin, now making a living as a scavenger. He found the black stone in the garbage pile after rain washed away the ash, revealing a faint green glimmer in a tiny fracture. He recognized it as extraordinary jade, wrapped it in his patched coat, and took it to his old student Li Ming at the State-Owned Jade Processing Factory where it was cut open to reveal Imperial Green jade. He was moved to tears calling it a miracle of nature.
