Mei Qian's maternal grandfather, the village's only elderly scholar. He passed the imperial examination at the county level but stopped pursuing higher ranks due to health issues. He opened a private school in the village to support his family. He was known for his intelligence, and before dying, he arranged for Mei Erhu to marry his only daughter Jiang Xue.
