The matriarch and family decision-maker of the Mei family. She is an elderly woman who led the family to hide in a cellar during the Xirong attack and later drove their donkey into the mountains to escape. She is resourceful, frugal, and skilled at foraging for edible plants and mushrooms in the wilderness. She has experienced a previous Xirong invasion twenty years ago when she fled with Mei Erhu's father and later returned.
