Grandma Xue
An over-ninety-year-old woman, the eldest resident of Shanjiao Village. Despite her age, she is still spry enough to work and earn labor points. Her life has been extremely bitter: she was made a concubine as a young girl, falsely accused of an affair, thrown into a river to drown, rescued and brought to Shanjiao Village, later married her rescuer, had a son, lost her husband to bandits, and lost her infant son to wolves. Her son was later rescued by a kind soul, joined the army, lost a leg in battle, and returned home with generous state compensation. She gifted Ruan Jiaojiao a piece of streaky pork as a thank you for Jiaojiao sharing chicken with her. She is highly respected in the village and handles funeral rites for the deceased.
