And then she sends her youngest son to help them move, arranges for their things to be delivered, gives them an address so they can write back. The line that killed me was: "You'll be leaving the day after tomorrow. I spoke to my son tonight, and he'll come tomorrow to take your things to the train station." She's planning ahead for people who aren't even her blood. And Feng Wan's response—"We must have had our ancestors' graves smoking in our past lives to have met someone as wonderful as you"—that's not overwriting, that's genuine gratitude from someone who's been through too much to take kindness for granted. The Wang couple giving Feng Wan sixteen hundred yuan and refusing to let her feel like a charity case? "Otherwise, we'd have no face to see your mother when we pass on!" I appreciate the clearness of the writing and find the dichotomy between an industrialized Earth and the high fantasy planet Avar. The mc is cool, and the power system is thought out. There are even clever nods to a corrupt government, such as a child being given the sentence for his parents crime after they die.All in all, a strong start.
